    I feel so bad for Victoria. I'm absolutely shocked that she wasnt put on some crazy strong IV antibiotics to head these infections off. I had osteomyelitis in my right heel due to a botched surgery but it was found within weeks not years. After I had my heel debrided from the infection, I was on IV antibiotics for months (much to the downfall of my kidneys but this isnt a kidney story) and I kept my foot. Granted to get to the osteomyelitis point my first surgeon just kept feeding me stronger painkillers when I was telling him that things looked infected. I went from walking with a cane to being on crutches as it progressed. But finally I took my health into my own hands and saw another doctor who immediately recognized the signs of infection and within a week I was being operated on again to remove the infection and placed on the IV antibiotics. It wasnt an easy time. It wasnt painless, and I do have complications from all of that hell I went though. But in the end, I kept my foot.
    So if my story and Victoria's stories are any warning to anyone. YOU are your own best medical advocate. If you dont like what a doctor tells you or something seems wrong, seek another opinion.

    I used to work in one of these places, i believe it can be done well but usually isn't. The water is changed too often for the fish, and it's not recommended to have so many in a tank. The owners where i worked didn't get any real advice on how to care for them. We were not qualified to be checking feet for infection or risks. People only wipe their feet with a wetwipe before using them. The fish aren't starved at all, but the risk of cross contamination is mega high. The fish where i worked became infected with black growths and the owners didn't care. I wouldn't recommend it.

    I can't think of these pedicures without thinking about Dirty Dan Schneider because one of the most uncomfortable times I watched one of his shows as a kid involved them. It just felt wrong and the more I thought about my feet and everywhere they go, the less I wanted a fish to ingest the dead skin off of them. It felt cruel. The idea of living beings trapped in a small container with nothing to eat but dead skin just feels...🤢🤢🤮. I'll just stick with a pumice stone and body cream to take care of my feet. It's better that way.

      It is unethical to starve fish for these treatments, but it is worth mentioning, that a lot of fish really enjoy eating the dead skin of mammals. Why I know? I lived in areas were you can put your feet into a lake and all the little fishies cam to nibble on your feet, they were not starving, they thought they get a special treat.
      What is disgusting for us, is not necessarly disgusting for animals.
      It still pretty idiotic to use fish as a beauty treatment though... as a strictly controlled medical treatment, they have value, but for beauty purposes they do not.

  • @ajejina5375

    i could never imagine the water could be in any way hygenic, people keep putting their feet in it and the fish live in it?? the fish are gonna poop. have their own little bacteria living on them. whole little ecosystem in there D:

    • @hannajung7512
      @hannajung7512 4 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +8

      hygenic is a wide term, it does not mean the same as steril. Done right it can be absolutly hygenic, the water needs to be exchanged frequently, the fish need rounds of antibiotics every now and then, and of course you have to leave time between treatments with the same fish group, since most germs that affect humans cannot live on or in fish that alone will reduce the risk of infection massively... Which is why as a medical treatment for certain conditions they have a real worth... as beauty treatment I have my doubts.
      After all the reason why they are of value as medical treatment, is the fact, that they fish can remove the access skin completely pain free. Which is a big deal, when you have skin that is so thick and brittle that it cracks when you move and touch hurts you. For these patients these fish give relief that other methods can hardly achieve, especcially not without pain being involved.

    It just occurred to me that even if the water is completely purified and cleaned and sterile... once you load it up with all those fish eventually they're gonna need to poop 🤢
    Aside from the risks to humans... fish are really sensitive to water temperature and Ph levels and the minerals and salts etc. If someone has done sugar scrubs and put all kinds of creams and lotions on their feet, that can't be good for the fish.
    Literally nothing good can come of these fish spas that can't be achieved with safer less animal cruelty means.

    As a fish keeper it makes so much sense that bacteria in the water causes issues, we literally add bacteria to the water (to speed up the growth of bacteria in the tank) as it forms a crucial part of a healthy ecosystem for the fish, but absolutely not for humans.
    Also, I’ve never found this treatment appealing anyway.

  • @hannajung7512
    @hannajung7512 4 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +6

    It is absolutly possible to "sanitise" fish, but it is expensive and time consuming, because you have to swap all water, let them sit in that for a while to have as much germs die of as possible and then give them a round of antibiotics/antimycotics befor the next time they get to "work".
    Most human deases cannot survive in fish, so time alone and a water swap will bring down the risk considerably allready. But because this treatment is done specifically with vulnerable people the antibiotic treatment is still necessary just to be sure.
    So it is not a viable option for pure beauty treatments, as it is really expensive to keep the fish as clean as necessary, but for some skin deseases this treatment is valuable, especcially since it is associated with less pain for the patient, then other treatments, that remove access skin.

    • @jeandiatasmith4512
      @jeandiatasmith4512 3 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +1

      It seems having a running "stream" would be a good fix? Constantly flowing water, constantly filtered, treated daily with things like the antibiotics plus giving fish all the room to swim to keep them healthy....would be enough to ensure things are clean enough? I'm picturing like a 10 to 12 trough of flowing water, with places to sit and put your feet in on the sides. PLUS a thorough foot bath BEFORE and AFTER?

    Honestly if you need a gentle cleanse just get a soap saver. I made one myself with crochet out of cotton yarn so it's soft but not too soft. And it gives me a gentle scrub when I use the bar of soap in the shower on top of preserving the soap for longer. It almost feels like a scratch on an itch. Like not aggressively scratchy but also not dull. You don't need to go with a full on metal scrubby sponge to get a scrub. And fish sounds weird.

    My family lived out in the country and the only way to get water to put out housefires was to dig a pond and fill it with water. There were no fire hydrants at all where I lived. We stocked our pond with bluegill, sunfish, and crappie. But we also fed them food pellets, that looked like the tips of someones fingers or toes lol. So whenever you'd swim in the pond, they'd follow you and nibble at your toes and hands. As a little child it was traumatizing to see a gigantic school of bluegill chasing me around 🤣🤣🤣. They were super tame and would recognize family members who'd walk up to the pond's edge (they wanted food lol). And they'd follow you around, if you walked around the pond. We never ate them becase some of us kids were too attached to some of the more identifiable ones lmao.

    I work at a pet store, I'm the aquatics specialist so I'm really just the fish person there and with aquariums the water has just natural good and bad bacteria in it because aquariums are ecosystems and the fish need all these bacterias in order to survive and thrive. Now for us humans these bacterias aren't necessarily a good thing, that's why whenever I have a cut on my hands I have to put liquid band aid on it no ifs and or buts. We also have signs on all of the tanks that basically says hey fish and the water they live in carry bacteria, wash your hands after interacting with fish and don't drink fish water. Now that being said if I was stupid rich I would have a pond with these guys and have my own private pedicure whenever I want and the fish will be well taken care of

    I thank you for talking about this because I never would have thought anything of it and definitely would have tried it out but I mean I've swam in rivers before, I know what it feels to have fish nibbling my toes haha I don't need to expose myself AND pay for the privilege haha

    I live on a spring fed very clean lake and they do this for free if you're wading. You can't stop them lmao. I would never do this in a tank.

      Before I ever heard of the fish thing, I went swimming in the Great Salt Lake. We were on vacation, I'd done a lot of walking, and I had heel blisters. I came out of the lake - and my blisters and all the dead skin was gone. Something cleaned up my feet fantastically. They were so soft for a few weeks. I'm glad I didn't know it was happening....it would have creeped me out. And swimming in that lake is the most disgusting thing I've ever done....the foot eating just makes it worse.

    My appeal to every Muslim, my brother or sister, the owner of the channel, I know that it is not my right to comment on your channel, but God is my witness that our circumstances are harsh and forced me to do this. Please forgive me. My brother, there is still a brotherhood of faith. I asked you for a bag of flour. My brother, we women cannot go out among men. There is still a woman with you. My brother, God has honored you. You are men. We are women. We cannot go out or work like you. My brother, where is the brotherhood of faith in your hearts? We are women. There is no brotherhood, no mercy, no compassion, no humanity. And give good tidings to the patient. It is the greatest hope while waiting for what we want. '''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''' How many times I called and talked and tried hard, but no one responded. Oh man, we are with you. My mother ordered us food from the restaurant. Moreand today. My mother left. Crying. She said, Why are you crying, my mother? She said, My daughter, I ask. God, that I may be honored by death. She said, Why, my mother. She cursed us. She said, "My daughter, today the restaurant owner insulted me. I said, 'Why?' I said, 'How can I be better than people?' I ask God, my daughter. May God gather me. With death alone, a gathering that is better than this humiliation and this humiliation. It is true. I am saying this. It diminishes my value and respect. But, man. I swear to God that I did not say this. I kiss your boots. I am so hungry that my conscience no longer allows me to let you go and ask us for food. I kiss your boots, man, and I ask you by God Almighty and in the Book of God, man, I kiss your boots, man. He has caused us harm, my brother, so that we can buy a kilo of flour and pay the rent. My brother, have mercy on us. He who is in the show will have mercy on you, He who is in the sky. My brother, this is my WhatsApp number: 00967772168484. Whoever can help us,message me on WhatsApp. We will send him the full name. He will transfer us as much as he can. May Allah reward you. Allah knows that my family and I, our house rent is 15 thousand Yemeni riyals per month, and now we owe 45 thousand for 3 months. The owner of the house is one of those people who do not have mercy. By Allah, my brother, he comes every day and humiliates us and talks about us and wants to throw us out of the house and into the street because we were unable to pay him the rent. We will have until the end of the week, and if we pay him, he will swear by Allah that he will throw us out into the street without mercy. See my situation for yourselves. I ask you by Allah, the Living, the Eternal, to help me. By Allah, the Almighty, even at night we cannot sleep from fear. We do not have mattresses or blankets to warm ourselves from the cold. Everything is flooded from the rain, and we have no one but Allah and then you. My brothers, I kiss your boots, don’t turn me awayempty-handed. Help us with whatever you can. Is it acceptable to you that we live in this place? We are girls and we have no one. Our father died in a car accident. Consider us your daughters and your honor, and help me with whatever you can. May God reward you with good =>[[}>] ^][/&;;&;&&;•̥·-•.,¸-•.,¸°·̮ •̥·°,.•¯,.•¯,;;;.≪∫⌈,.≪∫⌈,.≪∫⌈,.≪∫⌈,.≪∫⌈,.------------------------------...-,-,-,--,-,-,-,-,,-,-,-,-,.............

    It's even usually advised that you not swim in pools oceans lakes etc if you have open lacerations or other wounds. The stuff that can live in the water and enter your blood is no joke 🫣
    Also, ah yes, the time honored tale of doctors blowing off women. That's why I had crippling endometriosis for over a decade
