    I've been pushing a pressurized CO2 System into my 36 gallon System now for almost a mouth.
    Although your videos focus on the introduction of CO2 to both your Aquarium plants as well as oneself and I definitely must say that your videos on this subject are incredibly both helpful as well as extremely informative, do you explain the photosynthesis part of the beast as well?
    Introducing CO2 to the planted Aquarium is a great way to get the plants to become absolutely beautiful however I think it's just as important to understand the concept of light (RGB&whites) and the amount of - to the plant.

    Thanks for making this great video. It's a great source of know how. I have a question, for sure you can shed some light into the question. I'm going to use an inline diffuser; the question is: do I need a check valve? where does the check valve go, between the bubble counter and the diffuser?

    • @TheWaterBox
      @TheWaterBox  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Always have a check valve reguardless of the type of diffuse you are using. We are talking abouth the co2 hose, NOT the actual water flow outlet. You don't need a check value there. I have a ball value sometimes just to cut off any backflow during water changes but that's it. You want one on the co2 hose so water doesn't backflow into the regulator/co2 tank.

    The cheapest and quickest method for creating a CO2 surplus in a heavily *planted* tank's water is just switching off your external filter for 20 minutes a couple of times during daylight. I have done a lot of experimenting on how to not waste any money on running many planted tanks, this was all before amazon, youtube and the internet-shopping happened, so you had to invent stuff yourself, and try them out for months on end. I had the advantage of being able to use actual science-labs at the zoo here (ARTIS), so I was able to do some probing on pH levels, O2, CO2 with very expensive near real-time devices that I could borrow from the department I worked at. In short; You do need to have abundant green leaf in your tank, enough to maintain O2 equilibrium for the life in your tank when you try switching off your filter. Also, switching the filter off intermittently boosts your bio-reactive levels, up to a maximum of course (there's a peak middle road to take), hence you should *only* use extremely reliable timers for this, or you'll destroy the good bacteria in your filter cannister. Never have it off for longer than ~22 minutes at a time, depending on the size of your filter. I've done testing mostly on older ~7 liter cannisters, and now use an Oase thermo 600 with this method. A good trick is to switch off your filter for 20 minutes exactly before the aquarium lighting Sun rises. This creates a decent co2 overhead which is great for vegetation right from the start. Then, second time to switch it off would be around 11, a third around 15:00 and a fourth 2 hours before your personal lighting sun-down moment. Doing this enhances CO2 average and bio-reactivity of your cannister. It's a trick to use when you're waiting for better or more elaborate methods to use when you have to use heavy lighting in your tank (in a zoo, for example).

    Well that's a bummer about the intake misting difusers only being about 40 sufficient. I have one from co2art and love it. (You may remember my recent comments. I just started using co2art several days ago). That Lilly pipe is cool. Do you hook your co2 tubing to that? Since I'm new with all this I'm only dosing one bubble per 2/2.5 seconds. Weaning my fish and shrimp with it. I think I'll dose 1 bubble per second now or by the weekend for sure. Thank you again for sharing your knowledge with us/me😀

    • @TheWaterBox
      @TheWaterBox  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends on what you're trying to do. The lily pipe pushes out water in the way where it creates a vortex pattern. This helps with distributing co2 that's inline injected as well as move water more in your tank.

    I have an in-line diffuser and I have my spray bars pointed slightly downward. If I went with a lily pipe, it points slightly upwards. I feel that having point downwards gives more time for the CO2 dissolve into the water. Does it matter? Been thinking of getting a lily pipe.

    • @TheWaterBox
      @TheWaterBox  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      With inline it shouldn't matter too much. People wory about it way too much in this case. The bubble are so fine at this point that they will tend to stay in the tank assuming it's not already the point where the water will just be expelling the Co2 based on the equilibrium.

    Great video! I'm looking to do this for my 200 gallon planted I am setting up. The last part of the video where you are attaching to the aquarium plumbing, is one part of the effluent for lack of a better term dumping directly into the sump? If so, what purpose does the side you plumbed play? I am not a DIY person but this tank is requiring me to become one. Thanks for your help.

    • @TheWaterBox
      @TheWaterBox  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The best way is to get an inline reactor that connects between the pump and the tank outflow. This will give you excellent diffusion. You can buy one or build one.
      Corvus did a great video on how to make one here: th-cam.com/video/wcHbn1Aprok/w-d-xo.html
      If you buy one you want something like this: amzn.to/2lleBuk
      But that a pretty cheap on. Remember to get a REACTOR and not a DIFFUSER as the flow you're using for a sump on such a big tank might be too much for a DIFFUSER type of setup.
      You can also diffuse the co2 into the sump itself but it'll be much less effective as the co2 will leave from the sump itself. You'd would have to really pump up the diffusion in the sump which in turn wastes co2 and can kill any live stock you decide to hold in the sump.

    Great information. I’m setting up a 125gal with co2 setup, I’m using pressurized co2, I know the main objective is to circulate the co2 thru out the tank. What do you think about either putting an in tank diffuser disc just below the intake tube of a hang on the back filter or just inserting the co2 tube (no diffuser) into the sump of the hang on the back filter, seems like that would circulate the co2. I’m running the seachem tidal 110. I do have a few canister filters running also, external inline diffuser would work, but I just was looking for less places a leak may happen.
    Thanks for the videos

    • @TheWaterBox
      @TheWaterBox  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      When I use misters/disc I put them under the outflow of my filter. It works. I don't suggest just lining a co2 hose straight in a hob or canister, it create pockets of gas and cause your filter to make noise. Plus it does diffuse all the well in a hob. Maybe a canister but again, it'll cause your filter to make a racket. Just stick with a disc if you don't want to pay out for and inline or reactor

    i did many ways to get the best Co2 diffusion in my tanks and the best simple way is still a Co2 reactor between a filter hose or the pomp outtake hose from a sump to the tank.
    give about 80% Co2 diffusion.
    What i do is in my 120gallon is injecting the Co2 directly to my intake from my canister filter and it dissolved 100% whit out bubbles and mist in your tank, problem is it works only whit big canisters, whit smaller canisters the Co2 get trapt in the pomp head and starts to make noise like if it has air in it and that impacted the flow rate to much.
    For my smaller tank 90gallons i use a Co2 reactor that works also fine and the smallest tank that it have 45gallons i use also a Co2 reactor its for me the best way for Co2 diffusion efficiency and how long my 2Kg (4lbs) Co2 bottle works before it must be refiled whit Co2.

    Can you explain how to set up multiple tanks from one regulator and co2 tank. I have a 10g co2 tank but I also have an expensive GLA regulator/solenoid that you can add separately more sections sold separately.
    I've yet to set up my system but I have multiple planted tanks but fear of blow off off from the co2 tank that could inject too much co2 has and could kill my fish. I have some expensive fish and I was warned of the tank blow off as they become empty not all regulators come with a gas gauges. This would be a good discussion for a following video if you haven't done so already. Who wants to come home and find their fish floating or dead by co2 over gassing in the aquarium.

      Hi there
      I was told of this from an online forum member and a couple of experienced fish keepers on there that I've know for a good time now. It happened to one of the members on there and he said it was his co2 tank that caused it?
      I just wanted to know if you have experienced this or heard of it happening that's why I've held off using my co2 system thats still in th box lol.. but I also asked about muliple connections off of one co2 tank. Or simply put can you over inject your aquarium with co2 another way..I understand why a drop checker is used but can a co2 tank discharge when it gets close to emptying itself. Have you heard of this before thats why I asked because I have some Altum Angels in a planted tank and they are sensitive fish. I currently use liquid co2 but it's costly and a chore to remember when to add if I'm too busy that day.
      Oh I'm new to your channel btw and enjoy your content great videos and very helpful I must say. 🐠🐠🐠

      You should have to worry with a GLA regulator.Blow offs were a concern maybe a few years ago, but again, tech has been enhanced. GLA dual gauge will do fine. I've never had a blow off even with cheap chinese brand regulators.

    Ibhave same in tank glass spiral mister you mentioned. Is there supposed to be water in the spirals in order to see the co2 bubbles?? Mine is only half full with water and dont get the full spiral effect

    • @TheWaterBox
      @TheWaterBox  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mine sometimes have co2 in the spirals which is fine. You want to garage your bubbles through a bubble counter and not the diffuser itself.

    I have a tank I am setting up that uses a sump I want all my hardware hidden so would I be able to successfully get co2 in my tank from the sump to grow plants?

    • @TheWaterBox
      @TheWaterBox  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes you can. You'll lose some Co2 from having it in your sump but it'll work. I'd suggest for a sump to use an inline rector. It would pipe into your outflow line. That's the more effective way to do it.

    So atomizing into the pick up tube of a power head , ( kinda like the Sprite system ) would be a a good or great way to set up a Co2 injection,but I still need to get a bubble counter hooked up to it some how, ?

    • @TheWaterBox
      @TheWaterBox  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You just have the bubble counter installed before it gets into the diffuser. I don't see the problem?

    • @TheWaterBox

      In my option, a reactor (inline or intank). You can always check out one of this for an intank reactor: Mr. Aqua: amzn.to/3gqSt9R I I dunno what size tank you have but they have smaller ones, The 400:amzn.to/2zyr6Ks: and the 200: amzn.to/36F5M28
      They call it a diffuser but it basically works more like a reactor.

    Hi, I wish you can answer my following Questions.
    I have a powerful Hang-on back filter on a 49 litre aquarium. I seem to have an issue which is that My Drop checker is blue after injecting CO2 like for 7 hours a day. I see bubbles in the whole aquarium but blue colored drop checker. Can you help me plz?
    I have like one bubble per 3 seconds.

    • @TheWaterBox
      @TheWaterBox  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It sounds like you might be using the wrong mix maybe? Are you using 4DKH water for the drop checker? If not, use the other method to measure your co2: th-cam.com/video/JeI816HOLdk/w-d-xo.html

    • @nikolaj1316
      @nikolaj1316 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Batur Raza A co2 drop checker only measures the ph, of which you can calculate your co2 level when compared to the KH. So “blue” means nought! If you don’t know what you’re doing then STOP, and do your research beforehand! It sounds like you don’t have a clue what you’re doing.

      @@qulibangunan3351 OK. So what is the actual problem? Water will fill your inline difussee. That's normal. The diffuser it on your canister hose of you outflow hose right? Co2 goes out to the tank, NOT into your canister.

    Co2 diffuse much easier than Oxygen and forms carbonic acid H2CO3, won't it makes the water more acidic?

    • @TheWaterBox
      @TheWaterBox  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes.

    • @Equinoxtrills
      @Equinoxtrills 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      So I tried this experimental setup with kipp aparratus to make the co2 (nasty acids involved, some marble chips and hcl) the idea is to dissolve as many as CO2 as possible into the water, the setup is 20L tank, it just takes 10-20minutes (it depends on minerals in the water) @25℃, to make the water full of CO2 with ceramic diffuser (I used this calculations : p/c=kh), so diffuser plus gas controls is essentials to plant growth?
      note : highest concentration is at the surface of the water

    • @TheWaterBox
      @TheWaterBox  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Or course it is. The trick is the balance it so that it doesn't kill any live stock in the tank itself (topped at 30ppms). If you don't have live stock and just a planted tank, the it won't matter. Highest concentration will always be at at the surface level (or within the first inch of surface depending on how much surface area you have vs your injection rate.) but that's why we want to make sure we have good flow to help move as much of it around the tank as possible.
