My goodness Charlie, a sizeable update indeed! 😲 I really like the section where the helix tracks duck down under the reversing loop. Great potential for a splendid looking set of retaining walls in the cutting and a great place for photographing trains for any 1/76 spotters with just a short trip across the way to the TMD! 🤓
Cheers Charlie, get yourself a well deserved bevvy and have a great weekend mate! 😉👍🍀🍻

Thanks Charlie for the Great progress post.
I inherited Marklin 3 rail set up that Uncle started 1950s , my aunt decided to use the 6x4 base for a cat litter box?!?!. I would like to tell the whole story of the rescue, and when expansion drawings only allowed the train only went one direction, the rusting Wren 3 rail had to be replaced with Marklin K nickel track.
Then began a big learning phase of engineering the layout.
Thanks Charlie if you read this post.

Very informative video. Another reason to push the insulated fishplates back is to provide a clearence point for trains stopped on the other track and signal block locations even when not using reversing circuits. Then when an engineer runs past the insulated joint of track that is lined for the other track, the train will short out the circuit but has room to stop automatically before running through the switch and derailing. Charlie, another fun video.

Charlie, you are a genius vidiographer! I've never got round to building my own model railway so get my "kicks" from Guy's like you. The way you plan and forsee (mostly) upcoming issues and are so honest when you get things wrong is so refreshing. I've watched the "new" Chadwick" from it's inception ftom your old TMD and always look forward to your updates. Can't wait to see how your truly great layout ends up and see your Western region trains run.

Hi Charlie ,, Its a good thing you sorted out the reverse loop happenings and is very similar to real track work and signalling here in Australia like when the green Iight turns to red we had a light on and when a then as in the section the light would go out and once it passed that section the light came back on again. When i first started on the railways I was always worried that there would be a collision with all the train movements as we were a junction station (& being only 17 yo) i got used to howmthe system worked and we had to make time to keep it all running efficiently without anyone collisions or hitting each other but as I went along we all used to get a turn of working the signals and points and lock levers (track lock systems) in place to keep trains a safe distance apart from each other. After working there in the ticket office on the platforms and signalbox all in all to help keep on top of things we all use to help out as we were short staffed but we got things done which is the main aim.
Keep up the gr8 videos m8 ,, there oarsome.
    Cheers from John in Australia.

Excellent progress Charlie. Where you're getting very close to the edge with the reverse loops perhaps employ a similar thing to how your electronic panels drop down? By this I mean plywood or perspex if you want to be able to see what goes on in there and then you will be able to protect from cliff diving derailment and be able to access for maintenance.

Excellent solution. It might be helpful in DCC to not think in terms of polarity but actually it's phase that we have to think of. The joining sections at each end of a reverse loop are technically out of phase with each other as DCC is an AC signal. Well done in any case!

@@ChadwickModelRailway I do have an N gauge analog layout in the loft called Lofthaven. It was in March 2007 Modelrail.
It’s rather large and is based on Southern region 1950s with a few exceptions like all us model nuts.

Charlie, yet again you've blown my mind, that was nothing short of brilliant, congratulations, I could tell your chuffed to bits, and so you should be. One thing that made me smile was when you were cutting your ply I was cringing oh he's going to hit the workmate!!! I've got the same black and decker workmate with the same scars and I've done the same thing so many times over the years, but I wouldn't be without it. No-one can criticise your skills in building this wonderful layout, you must be getting to the stage now when you can take a day off building work and just play trains. Take care Charlie I'm really enjoying the little snippets you do in-between these videos. Eddy xx

When I was using circuit breakers for protection I found that they would not give my PM42 enough time to change the polarity of the reverse loops and even though it was only a difference of a few milliseconds the circuit breaker would activate. I got around this by using 1 ft lengths of rail, double insulated at both ends, at each end of the reverse loop and fed those individually, directly from the DCS 240 unit, and so bypassed the circuit breakers. The DCS 240 has built in short circuit protection (as you know charlie) as you yourself use Digitrax. This cured the problem. However I am now using lamps in parallel then in series circuits for short protection. 2 lamps in parallel with both in series for each of the 3 levels. I no longer experience any problems at all with any trains using the reverse loops, which I have 4 in total controlled by my PM42 and 1 which I use a DPDT switch for polarity reversing. Greg is correct in what he is saying.
