  • Compilation of some lessons that Gu posted to Instagram in 2020. For some reason people often get distracted by his speed and athleticism but these lessons show pretty clearly that Gu Bongil has an incredibly strong technical base.

    Who else finds watching clean lessons so relaxing?

      @@SlicerSabre Because, I am assistant coach at a small club and ever since I've started doing that I've stopped doing drills entirely! So in short, this just reminds me of that fact.

    The Koreans get a lot of credit for being long and athletic but they don't get enough credit for how amazing their technique is

      This is a way to avoid admitting others' superiority. One just need to say ,,oh, they're so athletic" and apperently they're not better anymore, they're just ,,more athletic".

    • @CyrusofChaos
      @CyrusofChaos 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Druid_Ignacy I've never seen it that way. You can acknowledge someone's strengths without denying how good they are. All I mean is you will often hear people praising the Koreans for their athleticism and long reach but most of them also have exceptional technique

      @@CyrusofChaos Fcourse, this is just very common in bijj (they say that), that strenght compliment is actually hidden ,,my technique is better, they're just stronger"

    Clean technique by both the Coach and Athlete. Lesson built logically and with the emphasis on proper execution and a timing.

    Lovely technique! Out of interest, can anyone explain the benefit of teaching an engagement in sabre? I see it a lot in individual lessons but (for perhaps obvious reasons) less so in actual bouts. Is there a reason for using it in individual lessons other than to gvie the student options? (Engagements at 2:50)

      In attacks: it trains a reflex that protects the wrist from improper stop hits while closing distance (counter attack intercepted by bottom third is neglected in priority and deflected). In 4m, simultaneous attacks using a closed line can give you the single light, opponent attack is no
