One thing I have had to confront in myself is the desire to find the "magic pill" of a device. The desire to buy something just because it has a better feature or promises a new benefit. I'd purchase an item using it a few weeks until something else caught my eye. I ended up with a lot of devices I never used. I have finally settled on a few items that essentially give me the flexibility and results I am looking for, without taking up too much room (TG Fit, X3, some Bullworker items, variable dumbbells, and a spin bike). For me, that is all I really need. At my age, I just want to remain strong, fit, and healthy.

You're 100% right there Andrew. Keep it simple, find some tools that work for you, and just repeat. I really hope people understand that me showing all this stuff doesn't mean you need more stuff. However, hopefully people get a chance to see what's out there so that it's only my home gym that's cluttered and not yours!

That Clench barbell has me rethinking going all in on Harambe. The versatility of using it with Olympic plates is very nice. Anyway I tried training with loop bands only and wasn't really a fan. Once I discovered the band/bar/board systems it really took off for me. I actually love training this way now and would easily recommend it to anyone looking to start a home gym without breaking the bank or needing a ton of space for the equipment.

Same, but I miss and love barbell training, as well as the character of the founder of Harambe, so I'll likely be swinging over to that one before the others.
However, for now, I'm on a DIY budget.

With loops there's a period where you gotta basically use trial and error to figure out which movements work and which don't. Definitely for me a good board was a game changer. Handles make a difference too. I also use climbing carabineers with a higher quality handles. I can understand not wanting to go through all that though.

I also have the band box and I would love to hear your opinion on it! Especially since it basically removes friction avoiding the resistance jumps that you experienced using the Harambe and Clench footplates. I also love the fact that you can adjust the band length. I personally like it very much although some setups can be a bit tedious.

Like I said in the video, having tried all these "systems" I'm kind of at a saturation point. Not to mention I have so many other awesome tools (Vector Belt, Squat Harness) that help supplement bands. I really wasn't interested in the product, but the owner emailed me a few times wanting me to send it to me check out (and I'm sure to show to you guys). It's obviously a unique product and one I'm sure people will love, it's just not for me personally.

I've done resistance band training in the past but I think it's hard for them to compete with isometrics from a risk/reward standpoint. I.E. I can go as hard as I possibly can with a nylon strap and not worry about it snapping back and hitting me in the eye. One of my favorite things to do was hooks attached to studs for bands. I have high middle low on two studs. They work great. Good handles are key. Climbing carabineers with the handles are also great too. I use a mix of weights and bands now but when I had a neck injury I used bands exclusively for months and they worked great.

The only weak points about the Nexus bar is the spring hinge for securing the resistance band. I’ve had caribeaner spring hinges break. Thus not being a secure closure if does break. Also, not sure how I feel about the shaft being made out of aluminum while the sleeves are steel, especially with the force of adding plates and a band. On top of that there’s probably only 3 exercises that most people will use for it making it more of a specialized equipment and not an all in one piece.

I'd recommend reviewing or at least using the band box kit sent from Resistance strong. we bought one and will be starting a YT channel using this platform. It has few perks like 1. added height (great for pre-stretch) of the bands
    2. the ball bearings create a nice smooth motion.
    3. lots of ways to load the band with different lengths, levels and pre-stretch using the dowel rods.
Even use one hand whilst the band locked on the other side.
Will also be using their bar and belt attachment as it a great solid stainless steel. I also prefer the belt squat as the load is in the middle and not to the side (like VA variant)

Band Box looks very interesting in that you can utilize the entire band for exercises that would normally require standing way back from a mount (rows). - I haven't seen many in the wild. It must be a different feel compared to a cutting board style platform. Would you say the Band Box could be used as a normal platform as well, or would it be best to get a simplified board with it due to the different feels? (using the whole band for one hand at a time with band-box vs using half the band in each hand with a traditional board). I plan to use Band Box at least for legs / back once I have the room for a home gym.

    • @goblinsgym
      @goblinsgym 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

You will get a different feel, as the Band Box uses ball bearing rollers. The resistance on the eccentric is almost the same as on the concentric. With a conventional foot plate, the friction between band and plate changes the resistance - more on the concentric (when you are weaker), less on the eccentric (when you are stronger).
I use knurled metal handles instead of a bar. Your hands are free to rotate to their preferred direction (which ends up similar to a trap bar). I find this easier on the wrists, and easier to grip for heavy loads. I haven't needed straps yet. If you prefer, you could use a bar with the Band Box.
You can adjust the band length by changing the pin position, or by pulling up the band in the center with a wood block. This means that you get resistance from the start of the movement.
My main use for the short EZ curl bar is the Zercher squat. The band goes in the middle. The curve hugs the elbows very nicely and eliminates the pain that you get with a straight bar. No need for a foot plate, just stand in the band loops. Besides quads and glutes, this is also a wonderful exercise for core stability.
You don't need a lot of space, something like 4 x 8' is enough. I have it set up behind my living room couch.

Which system would you say is best suited to near beginners and offers the most support in terms of carrying out the exercises correctly? Building muscle mass is my goal, which I lost due to the stress of contracting tinnitus some time ago, and I'm in the process of healing it through Liam Boehm's holistic course.

Thanks for the great and honest question. A lot of it has to do with personal preference with these systems. Probably the simplest "system" as far as programming would be the x3. They also do have videos and the like. I'd also say a lot progress and positive feedback I hear from people on x3 specifically is coming from beginners who find it as a very simple system to stick to. Feel free to send me an email though and I'd be happy to give more help / feedback.

I have the band box from Switzerland and it's great. The rollers will extand the life or your bands and the way you can setup your bands in different ways with different length of tension and have the band come out the center of the box is unique to that system and very ingenious. The bands he sells are high quality multi layer latex at a great price. In fact after doing a lot of research on quality /price of different systems I landed on his product even though I had to pay shipping from Europe. It just made sense. Keep in mind the box comes with the handles, D Handle and the book (great btw) , the ez Bar is cheap, the bands are cheap. I only added a squat belt and Clench door anchor purchased separately to complete my system. He's a serious lifter who if I'm correct works exclusively with bands and is living proof of it's effectiveness. He's also a great guy who checked unprompted on how my progress is going. I really like the Swiss box idea as it looks easy to shorten bands for some exercises and even use short bands in pairs to deadlift, or do band belt squats . It also looks like it would not tear your bands through friction. worth a review I think although I will definitely be making my own version, those are conveyor rollers and some 4x2's and some Dowling, ingenious though 👍 .
