Chinese officials on Saturday reported the highest death toll so far in a 24-hour period. ◆ The 46 new deaths in China raised the toll to 259. ◆ About 2,100 new cases were also recorded in the country in the past 24 hours, raising the worldwide total to nearly 12,000, according to Chinese and World Health Organization data. The vast majority of the cases are inside China; about 100 cases have been confirmed in 21 other countries 😷😷😷😷😷😷😷
Your husband is a boss! I love his commitment to the Chinese arts and traditions that he so frequently talks about in your videos. Thanks for giving him and his mother a voice. These traditions are what I most love about China and you do a great job of presenting them. Thank you.
Yonghong’s calligraphy is beautiful!!! He can mount it onto a long silk scroll and treat it as a calligraphy painting!!! Please keep Chinese calligraphy as an art and preserve it!!!
The lady is so lovely and the paper cuttings are amazing!! what an artist! It's such a shame that young people these days are not willing to learn these traditional crafts...Miriam it would be so great if you pick up this craft and integrate your own unique style into it :-)
Like she said, it is really hard to make money from it, so a lot of young people in this area work really hard, and don't have time for this. I think it's sad! But many young people also don't have the patience I think, to sit down and just cut for hours and hours. I would love to learn, I have so many ideas haha.
I love Chinese paper cutting, I bought some small ones when I visited Beijing in 1988 and I am still having them. It will be so exciting to see how you incorporate Swedish elements into Chinese paper cutting. And please tell your husband that his calligraphy is beautiful, wish I was taught in school back then, anyway, I can tell your husband is a very artistic guy judging from the way he dress and his hair style, he is a handsome guy.
Oh, that's so lovely that you still keep them! I hope when everything has cleared up with the virus, my MIL and I can learn from this lady! I think my husband would be really good at drawing and painting, I'm trying to convince him to try 😊
Do you notice that when they smile there is real delight? Their smiles reaches their eyes. They live very connected lives. Connected to their roots, family, neighbors.
Aawww you two are the sweetest and most beautiful inside and out people I have ever seen on TH-cam. So idealic in village in Qinghai while the world is raging outside. I am a little bit envious.
Hello! All of your videos are lovely! And this lady who is the friend of your mother-in-law is so talented. It is a shame that such skill is not recognized or patronized! I think many of your viewers would love to support her by buying her works! It is an idea--please offer these somehow so she may make some money off of these wonderful paper-cuttings. I think if young people see there is a way to make a living from the traditional crafts, they would take up these skills!
@@MiriamFollin thank you for your response! I believe many of us would patiently wait for these beautiful cuttings, so do not worry about rushing them. I would wait until the end of the year. It would be wonderful to have them for the New Year of 2021 :)
@@morrigansmaiden That's wonderful to hear! That would probably be about the time it would be ready. But it depends a little on the outer circumstances of corse. But I'm keeping my fingers crossed!
@@MiriamFollin wonderful! Keep us posted, I am sure many of us would love to purchase handicrafts from traditional Chinese artists and crafters such as your paper-cutting friend :)
Your mother in laws friend also has a lovely smile, it must be contagious as your husband and his parents always look so happy. PS Miriam- out of all your spectacles/glasses, the ones on this video suit you the best. The thin gold frames don’t hide your features and look lovely.
That lady is super talented. I have always loved Chinese papercuts. Hard to find authentic ones now. I believe many are being laser cut -- well, the ones for tourists.
Wow! Wow! Wow! That skill, that talent, that passion of your husband’s calligraphy is AMAZING!!! Double thumbs up to him!!! That lady’s paper cutting work is something special as well!!! You both are such a beautiful down to earth couple!! Juz hav to admire your wonderful pure relationship!!! Cheers from Malaysia 🇲🇾!!!
I really look forward of you to see you putting a Swedish touch on this traditional Chinese craft! Perhaps your designs could be featured in IKEA in the future and I could buy them in the future!
Your husbands calligraphy skills are great I wish I could do that. Tell him he has nothing to be ashamed about. I hope you are all healthy and doing well in these challenging times.
If there's always a good sign in your videos, it is in life to stay positive or to possess an attitude of Hope and an appreciation of beauty anywhere and everywhere.
Amazing!, your husband is a good calligrapher; he is from Qinghai; is so rare to see young people can do calligraphy so well; even in many big cities in China: because; the new generations don,t learn it any more
When I saw your husband doing the calligraphy, I was like, "wow" that's not easy even if you are Chinese. Really lovely! I did some Chinese paper cutting for a brief moment to use in my pottery. It hurts your hand after awhile and I never made anything big. Those designs were so beautiful, thanks for bringing us along.
I have always liked Chinese New Year paper cutting. These years I folded Chinese Zodiac for my office lil decorations. I hope one day I get to learn paper cutting, they r just so beautiful, love the Fu with a face, the two tiny rats...loving the detailed work, they r indeed a must have for CNY 👍🏽👍🏽
What a lovely vlog, the paper cutting was gorgeous! And your chinese sounds so good, I'm still learning ^^ Where I am, Chinese New Year Celebrations were kind of cancelled because of the coronavirus, it was my first Chinese New Year experience but my parents in law say it was nothing compared to what usually is like. I'm looking forward to next year's! Also, even though I didn't get the full experience this year, I can already tell there are some differences from your region to mine, it was exciting to learn about the decorations there!
Oh those paper decorations are so creative and beautiful detailed👍. If this lady wants to sell them maybe she can use an online Etsy account, people use this to sell their own made products ,but I dont know if this is available in China? I sure would buy one specially those with the flowers! Greetings and blessings from the Netherlands.
I don't think etsy is available in China or in Chinese. And it's also not possible to sell others handicraft on etsy. But we have some ideas for the future to collaborate with her!
It is wonderful to see the customs, that make up the rich history of China. So much talent everywhere. Amazing. You and your husband are making history to you know Miriam. Your little boy will carry that forward in his life, with all he learns from his parents and their heritage from Sweden and China. I love your videos Miriam. Thank you from Australia..
I could see this type of handicraft becoming trendy in the United States if there were classes or tutorials available to people. Nowadays a lot of people love intricate, detailed crafts like cross stitch or even coloring because there's no screen, and the amount of focus it requires helps them to de-stress, and honestly this looks like a really rewarding creative outlet. With that in mind, I'm surprised more young Chinese people don't do this.
I randomly found your channel today and I've been binge watching your videos. I really enjoy the storytelling, especially the videos with your in-laws, your husband, and other locals. You have a beautiful family 😊
I love this episode very much. Chinese paper cutting is such a beautiful art. I would love to buy one if her work to display in my home for prosperity and all year luck, happiness, health.
Love your traditional Chinese life😍😍😍. I have been living in the US for more than 40+ years and have not kept up my tradition. Wishing you and family a wonderful year and prosperity in everything you pursuing:).
Love the lovely paper cuts. Very folksy and traditional designs. Love the beautiful calligraphy! Love the exuberance of life your family all radiate! Bless you all!
I bought a big paper cutting (8 horses running) at a Beijing street market. At that size and that intricate pattern, I really think it was a machine/laser cut since it was rather cheap. It was supposed to be a souvenir for a friend, but I accidentally left it at Shenzhen airport lol.
The scarf is from a street vendor, but the hat comes from the Tibetan handicraft company Amdo Craft! You can find their website here: www.amdocraft.com/en/ They have a lot of amazing products!
I LOVED the video. It's my favourite one. _ My favourite paper cutting that i have seen in your video is the mandala one, it's the one i can see hanging in my home the whole year round. It's so precious to have a friend that can show something like that. It's a beautiful technique. I am curious of what you are going to create.... PS : i also like the idea of having one with the animal of the chinese year. _ Thank you for sharing with us 🌺
I also love these cutouts so so much, I have purchased many many small ones (especially children, flowers and animals!) I laminated them and made them into beautiful bookmarks for my children.
