I am in awe of anyone making their own jeans! You have made a great start and the same way you have perfected neck binding I'm sure you will perfect the art of sewing jeans as well. The pink gingham dress is adorable!
Hi Mary! The jeans have been really enjoyable actually. Totally out of my comfort zone!! I’m loving my Barbie dress 🩷 it’s all finished but needs a good iron 😂 Thanks a mill
Love your Betty dress ❤ one tip I have for top stitching is when you don't have the colour you want and don't want to buy a top stitching thread for, maybe two seams etc but you have a normal thread in the colour you want. I use the triple stitch, not sure what it is on other machines but the picture on my Janome is three dashed lines. This gives a really lovely stitch that looks like you've used a thicker thread. Hope this helps someone. ❤
Thanks so much! And thank you so much for that tip! I tried it out on the hem of the jeans and it worked like a dream!! Appreciate the tip! And thanks for watching!
Very interesting video Rachael. The jeans are looking good. The beautiful block print would be stunning in a Fleur top. More feminine for that fabric than the Donny shirt. Looking forward to seeing whatever you make because the fabric is so lovely.
The Indian block print is gorgeous! Looking forward to seeing the completed project. I will vote for a peplum every time! For your vacation, at least you were able to hear the waves crash onto the shore... that's one of my favorite things about the beach!
I'm so glad you are enjoying making the jeans Rachael. As long as you just complete each step, you can't go wrong and they come together really quickly all at once, I feel. Holidays with little ones is a whole different experience isn't it! Bet you need another holiday now lol 😊
The Betty dress is so pretty, can't wait to see you in your Barbie outfit for tea. Great start on the jeans. We will all cross our fingers that they fit you perfectly. Have a great week and thanks for sharing
I was grinning to myself during the description of your military precision cutting process for your jeans. I went to a Ginger Jeans sewing retreat a few years back, and we had 2 days to fit, cut, baste, sew and learn to make these jeans. The instructor was fabulous but she was hell bent on getting all of us out the door with a perfect fitting Ginger. I have NEVER cut out a brand new pattern so fast in my life! From the pattern pieces to the fabric itself! I was horrified and being a bit particular myself, all this rushing was freaking me out. But guess what? It didn't matter! It all worked out and I have 1 pair of jeans in my closet that I continually get compliments on from strangers about how well they fit me, my Gingers. Going outside your comfort zone is sometimes so freeing! Another entertaining vlog Rachael, thanks so much!
Wow that sounds like an intense course!!! But how much fun to have that dedicated to time it!! That’s so great it worked for you!! It’s fun to push yourself isn’t it!! Thanks so much for watching Rita!
Oh well done for starting your jeans! I was chuckling at the ' beach cover up is a rain jacket' We are just back from a soggy week in beautiful North East Scotland where raincoat trainers and a wool jumper were most worn 😂😂 Good job I relegated the sundress plan ! Your pink gingham dress looks wonderful -enjoy your afternoon tea! 😊
Thanks so much Debs! I loved making them Oh the rain ….. 😂😂 I was very optimistic thinking I’d be in a beach cover up 😂 Looking forward to my afternoon tea on Sunday!!! Hope it’s not too soggy where you are! Thanks for watching!
Thank you so much for the shout out Rachael ❤ Your jeans are looking great! Sewing a zip fly is so satisfying, it feels like witchcraft when it comes together 😂 I think you'll find the rest of the process a breeze x
No probs Tania! Hope I did it justice! Such a fun challenge, I’m looking forward to taking part’ It is total witch craft and making jeans is a total superpower 😉 xx
Only when I cut out woven trousers do I do the whole 'measure to the selvage' shenanigans 😂. Jeans most definitely have to be completely on grain! Your front looks good to me and I will admit I baste as much as I can together to try them on before the final sew then i have to undo all the basting stitches 😂. I love your pink gingham dress and that event sounds wonderful. Sorry about your holiday weather but I'm sure you made some great family memories anyway. Enjoy your weekend xx
Shenanigans is right!!! I usually am much more slapdash 😂😂 I’m so looking foreward to Sunday. It should be good fun!! We did have a great holiday for sure.. counting down until we can go again next year! Thanks Carole and I hope you had a lovely week xx
Hi Rachael. I’m very impressed with your jeans making! I could never cut a straight size out as my waist is wider in proportion to my hips. However I am starting to feel that I should have a go. Your Betty dress is lovely. I have 2 Betty dresses that need rehoming if you’re interested. I wore them once or twice but decided the style isn’t for me. I’d love to give them to someone who likes the style. One is blue liberty fabric and one is red/ pink roses. Let me know if you’re interested at all. I made size 10/12 but took a little volume off the skirt. Ruthx
I think I lucked out with this pattern as my proportions match the pattern which was useful for my first try! Ah that’s very kind Ruth! I have a fair few bettys now but thank you so much for your lovely offer! I hope you find a lovely home for them 🩷🩷
I love Indian block print fabrics too and have even made a Donny shirt in it - also in pink and green! If you want to see what it looks like, it is on Minerva under 'Kates Threads'. It is so lovely to wear, light as a feather especially when it is blazing hot. Just be very careful when starting each seam. Set your machine to a 'lightweight fabric' setting if you can as it is very easy to get the start of the seam chewed by the feed dogs!
Donny in Indian block print sounds popular.. I may have to give it a go next summer!’ Your version on minerva looks amazing!!!! So do all your makes 🩷 That’s a very good tip about sewing with that fabric! Thank you!!
I just made my version of the Donny Shirt using a vintage 1980 pattern and the fabric was a navy and white Indian block print. I love it! Still haven't started making my jeans. I'm looking into a series on yTH-camthat explains the "top down centre out fitting method" for trousers, jeans. I miss the days when I could just cut out my size from a pattern and it fit. Unfortunately as we get older our body shape changes. I remember taking 5 children, my 3, and a niece and nephew on a beach holidays. Some years were great weather wise and other years wet and cold. But we always had fun and so many great memories. I love the pink gingham dress. Instead of wearing a slip you could make a lining for the skirt, using the same pattern pieces from a lightweight white fabric. Since I live in Canada my friend and I are planning our own afternoon tea in a nearby city. I think I have decided what to sew. Hopefully a pink gingham blazer, a white broiderie anglaise blouse, and some kind of trousers. And if I have time a pink flower print quilted bag. I cut out all me sewing following the grain line. Just one of those things I learned a long time ago and don't feel comfortable if I don't.
That Donny sounds amazing!!! I considered lining the skirt too but didn’t have any fabric suitable, so a slip is a good alternative 🙏🏻 it would be beautiful lined though. It would give great swoosh! That’s such a good idea to go for an afternoon tea with a friend and your outfit sounds incredible! I would love an outfit like that! I hope you have a really wonderful time!!
Looking forward to seeing your progress on the jeans, just wondering if you know of any sewing related advent calendars here in Ireland. I’m really going to miss the BTPD one this December
Hi there! Jeans toile is done 🥳 The Fabric counter in Dublin did an advent calendar last year.. wonder if they’ll be doing one again this year? thefabriccounter.ie And Steph in fabric romance is selling the Kylie and the Machine one www.fabricromance.ie/collections/kylie-and-the-machine/products/kylie-and-the-machine-advent-calendar-2024 Hope that helps Thanks for watching
Since "fleur" means flower in French, your channel is The French Seams, and the fabric has flowers on it, I think it would look best in the Fleur Blouse.
I have been in Ireland for 4 weeks and the weather was awful. I never got into my shorts, T shirts or summer dresses. It was wet and cold, stove on in the evenings! Making a Winona jumpsuit ( ha ha, probably for next year!). Your fabric will make a beautiful Fleur!
I am in awe of anyone making their own jeans! You have made a great start and the same way you have perfected neck binding I'm sure you will perfect the art of sewing jeans as well. The pink gingham dress is adorable!

Hi Clare! I think so too… hopefully I’ll be able to make it soon!

Welcome to the Irish “summer”… it was pretty bleak this year!!!
Looking forward to making that Fleur ! Thanks for watching Mary!
I'm obviously not the sharpest knife in the box. It's taken me 24 hours of "What?" to work out what SewFizzTeaCated means. Doh!
😂😂😂 it’s a really great hashtag isn’t it 😉
Looking forward to getting involved 🥂
