in Europe the PS2 and WII are multiple tiers above the rest. Everyone had a PS2 and WII, while the other old consoles on the list are limited to dedicated gamers here. I don't think we will ever see a console dominate the market share like the ps2 did in its prime. there were still games being developed on the console well into the PS3's lifetime. Every store that sold games had many shelves of PS2 games, you would be lucky to spot more than 2 rows of xbox or nintendo games in that era.
These comments are some of the dumbest i have ever seen -Silot 99,9% of the people buying the console had no knowledge of piracy. Dedicated gamers did not push the PS2 into the limelight, it was a combination of hardware excellency, predating all other consoles of it's own generation by atleast 1 year (GameCube and Xbox), backwards compatability with PS1 (games and joystick), being a DVD platform for audio and movies. The casuals are what sold the console. -Gonzalo Horrible analogy. Fortnite is just another product in a long line of almost identical BR's in a very saturated market, there is little innovation, but it's better than its predecessors which are just early-acces asset flips (like Pubg or H1) so that's not really that impressive. PS2 and WII had no competition in their respective markets and they were also excellent products, designed well and were innovative in their own ways. If you don't like something, make a compelling argument against it, instead of trying to associate it with something that is completely irrelevant. That being said, there is no argument here, The PS2 is objectively the best console. When asmon says that "having a PS2 is being ahead of the curve" he is ironically wrong, because almost nobody didn't have it, you were behind the curve if you didn't have a PS2.
Yeah bro he was so wrong about everything he said about that system including the score a-s tier all the way. It had way better graphics than anything that came out before and a solid line up of sports games, arcade quality ports and exclusives for the one year it was available.
@jimwhittaker4137 It had basically ps2 graphics and that came after imo. When I saw soul caliber and couldn't tell the difference between it and the arcade my mind was blown. I hate, hate HATE sports games but even I liked the 2k, 2k1 etc sports games. S tier all the way for me also.
dreamcast was so unique and ahead of its time. it deserves a higher ranking. online a generation before anything else. mvc2, powerstone2, jet grind. its so beloved

It came out at 600$ compared to the 200$ Xbox 360 and 300$ Wii. Also Blu-ray was super irrelevant as people had a DVD collection when it released. Very niche. Free online was cool but it also got hacked and many people had to get new credit cards.
@@drizzho The only time you needed to pay for playing online was with MMOs. The only console that ever did online properly was the Dreamcast and it's online play was free. Consoles ruined online gaming forever.
Bluray disks means fewer game disks because it held more data, much more, and the disks are very very difficult to scratch unlike the previous DVD disks that the 360 was using. Most consoles have online subscriptions to play nowadays but PS3 did not. Premium price to pay at the time, sure, but it deserved credit for what it has done right. In my opinion Sony tried to give us everything, shame it was soo expensive. They also wanted to give us a PS2 built inside the PS3 console (not emulation) which was later removed. I think they had the right ideas deep down.
Sega Saturn is my favorite system. There are so many great games on it. Panzer Dragoon Trilogy, Guardian Heroes, Clockwork Knight 1 & 2, Astal, Nights into Dreams, Rayman, Burning Rangers, Sega Rally, Virtua Cop 1 & 2, Virtua Fighter 1 & 2, Dragon Force, Mega Man 8, Mega Man X4, Mr. Bones, Shinobi Legions, Decathlete, Die Hard Arcade, Bug! 1& 2, Earthworm Jim 2, and many, many, more. The Saturn was far more successful in Japan and had 700 plus exclusive releases in that region. I am still discovering great Saturn games to this day. I won't deny how badly Sega handled the system, but the games are fantastic.
PS2 was great, i remember playing Jak and Daxter, and Ratchet and Clank nonstop everyday I came home from school. So many memories with ps2 games. PS3 was great too, it wasn't such a big step from the ps2, but the graphics did improve a lot over the years of it's lifespan. PS3 had great games too, like Last of us, Uncharted, God of war. Good memories from that console too
People forget the revival the PS3 had towards the end of that generation vs the Wii and 360. It was outselling the 360 hugely I believe for the last few years before the next gen consoles. It had a rough start but really wasn't a bad console in the end.
We shouldn't have to wait for a product to be good at the end of its life span. A product should be ready to go on release or they shouldn't released it until it was. That's the kind of attitude that has made EA, Activision, and Bethesda think it's okay to treat us the way they do.
@@nathanwilliams9544 End of its lifespan wasn't really accurate from myself it was a long while before that. Nevertheless it did have a rough start. It's a bit of a reach you're making comparing it to EA etc. The PS3 wasn't a broken and unusable product at any point. If anything the hardware issues Asmon mentioned that the 360 was plagued with is closer to your comparison.
i had a Wii at the time and what made me get a 360 over a PS3 was easily the price. no way was i going to drop $700+ on a console with just a couple of decent games. but now that i have a ps4 i use PS Now to play some of the games i missed from the PS3
@NoNoNoNii No doubt man. That generation was a special time, online gaming really took off into the mainstream during that era. I was always playing on PC anyway but it was for sure a breakthrough era.

The Sega Master System is an A tier console for me. I grew up with it here in Australia. Alex Kidd in Miracle World, Wonderboy in Monsterland, Ghouls n Ghosts and Shinobi were amongst my favorite games. There were many others that I loved too.
Master System was massive everywhere except the US. Whilst NES and SNES dominated there and in Japan, pretty much everywhere else the Master System and Mega Drive dominated.
The worst thing of having little cousins is that I had to give them all my ps2 games (and the ps2) when I got my ps3... Not gonna make that same mistake again
You got to respect the fact that he sticks to his personal opinion. Most of the time when he was highlighting a new console people were literally spamming every single section. So everytime he made a pick it was bound to make a lot of people mad. But I can respect that he can support every choice with a bunch of rational arguments.
Not really.. they release the same titles every generation and the fan boys buy it (not much of a selection). They never have any good sales in the online market. The graphics are doo-doo. And the online is still to this day booty. Super Nintendo, N64 & GameCube are the only solid ones. The Wii was innovative but not much online and terrible graphics. The Wii U is F tier, the switch is cool but an upgraded Wii U.
@@megalodontooth1017 Nintendo is great as adapting games to their technologies so yes, they release Mario on every console but each is innovative by the technology like how Mario 64 pioneered how 3d games should be with an analog stick and camera movement. Like Disney, Nintendo is more about experience. Less tangible, harder to understand. Sony and Microsoft are more about entertainment, more like Transformers movies.
Kenny Yee kudos, I do agree with what you said. I just kept cringing at the tier list as he was doing it live because it is extremely bias. @@UltimateGamerCC I agree the PS2 was better, but if that's your reasoning for PS1 being A class, then after Asmon ranked the SNES an S-class (I agree with that) then he should have ranked the other nintendo consoles in A too. But that's pointless coz you can have multiple consoles from one creator be S-class.
Its not S-tier. Im sorry S-Tier are godlike consoles. PS1 was awesome. I had one, i LOVED crash bandicoot, tekken, resident evil 2, tony hawks, GT, medievil, spyro, digimon world, dino crysis, final fantasy.... but no, even if i love them, they had not a chance against the incredible masterpieces of the Nintendo 64. It was another level. Sure the catalog was awesome, the prices were good. But you had more quantity over quality, not saying bad quality, in fact was very good, but Nintendo 64 not only was a much more powerfull console, it had some of the best games in the history of the videogames. I love more PS1 than PS2, and i also put PS2 as an S. I think Asmongold loves too much Nintendo Gamecube, which is an A for me. I would only put in S rank: Super nintendo, Nintendo 64 and PS2.
I never owned a SNES. However, my friend had one and oh boy it had some amazing games. It's the console that I have my foundest memories of with games like Turtles in time, Super Mario World, Donkey Kong Country 3 and lets not forget Super Mario Kart.
Ps2 is my all time favourite console. Not only did it have some of the best games, but it also had incredible graphics, and amazing hardware for the time. And it was backwards compatible, my favourite games from ps1 (i never played the ps1) could be played on my ps2.
45:24 because of the joystick drifting in both joycon and pro controller that didn't got repaired in the switch relaunches and Nintendo still saying that's its a myth. It deserves that spot
Hours of 15 year old me playing Shen Mu on Dreamcast were some of my fondest gaming memories. It taught me about social interaction (no joke), and it had a forklift simulator before job simulators were cool.
He’s an idiot. He credited the N64 with killing the Saturn, but it was really the distrust Sega had built up with consumers after the CD and 32x debacles the prior year, Sega fucking over retailers with the launch window deal with KB Toys, and Sony undercutting the price with the Ps1 long before the N64 launched. He also got the Dreamcast price wrong, and spoke about Nintendo during the Dreamcast section as though that was Sega’s main competitor for that system instead of the reality that it was the PS1 (which outsold the Saturn and N64 combined) and the looming PS2. Dreamcast was dead by the time the GameCube launched.
Yeah def should switch place with the N64. It was the biggest leap ever. Also played CD's. And so many great titles started there. It made gaming mainstream
Horrific take on everything. Bro don't know what he's talking about. He speaks with certainty but doesn't know basic facts like the dreamcast was not $400 or overpriced it was $199 the issue was no one could find one throughout the holiday of 1999 and by the time they had their supply in order the PS2 was 2 months away and Sega had wasted there head start and knew they couldn't compete. I don't know why anyone takes him as serious commentary on game history and yes I agree PS1 was a game changer
Yeah bloodbourne machine 🙄……..also god of war, ghost of Tsushima, horizon, last of us pretty much every relevant exclusive during the last generation lol gtfho
I have to say, nostalgia plays a big part, I remember being 4 years old playing melee and absolutely loving it, and therefore loved the GameCube. Same thing with the 360 with halo 3 when I was 12.

Maaaan I loved my Dreamcast, I still remember beating my brothers egotistical friend so badly in Power Stone 2 that he broke his hand punching the wall xD
Amson is such a casual when it comes to the technology of console/PC hardware. The Dreamcast was NOT expensive, it was was £199 on launch day in the UK which was extremely cheap. The PS2 was £299 when it launched and had a much weaker GPU than in the Dreamcast, but the PS2's CPU was faster and it had double the main ram (32MB v 16MB).

The game boy advanced attachment bumped up the GameCube for me back then and even now. It was mind blowing for me being able to play my game boy advance games on the big screen tv back then. And it didn’t attach some awkward device to the side of the console it was neatly fitted at the bottom and didn’t take up any extra space which was a plus for me.
20:40 made me tear up a bit not gonna lie. Having to make whatever you had work was what gave me the "never give up" attitude. I remember playing through Digimon World 3 and one day the screen went completely blue whilst playing it, not being able to save or see a single thing but you could still walk around. I lost around 20 hours of progression, literally cried so much because of it. After a week or so of contemplating breaking the disc, I decided to replay it and make sure I saved regularly on multiple memory cards and man did it feel good once I completed the game!
GameCube had cool 4 controllers, ssbm, luigis mansion, Mario Cart double dash, Zelda wind walker, Zelda twilight princess, pikmin, spyro, metroid, Mario party, Mario sunshine, Pokémon collosseum and xd, it had the possibility to connect with Gameboy advance and was portable. BUT the wii had all that (literally a GameCube inside it) AND more
I feel like the Wii U was missed potential. You look at a game like Mario Maker and just how well utilized the game pad was and could probably come up with some cool interesting ideas for some games. Had some great first party games as always where most of them are being ported to the switch now because nobody played them.
People don't still play ps2 games today? MGS2 & 3, GTA:SA, Silent Hill 2, FFX & XII, Shadow of the Colossus, Okami, Devil May Cry 3, Ratchet and Clank etc.
To be fair, the experience that an XBOX player has today is 1000 times better than at launch. And I honestly think that they are the ones better positionated for the next gen with Game Pass and the amount of studios that they are adding to their first party line up.
Ps1 had more games but both were pretty equal asmon doesnt know what he was talking about, also SNES was not the 1st system to have a 4 player adapter like asmon said it was the original NES

Homie is missing out on great exclusive games on PS3 (infamous, LittleBigPlanet etc) plus Sony really turned around the PS3 and it did outsell the 360 at the end
I'd argue the Wii U's real flop point wasn't the marketing as everyone says. It certainly didn't help, but I think what screwed it was how singleplayer-focused it was. If you look at how the Switch was able to compete with Xbox and Playstation, it's because it's perfectly designed for social gatherings. Same thing goes for the Wii. The other consoles have been focusing more on technology and online experiences for a while now, and that's what lets Nintendo still be so successful; it completely dominates that party demographic. The Wii U, on the other hand, made it actively difficult to play in-person multiplayer. When they lose that social aspect, what's the use of a console with weaker technology and much worse online functionality? It's only purpose was as a handheld, but it was so chunky it was awful at that too. The Switch functions as both a console AND a handheld 20x better.
This list is entirely spot-on except for the PS3 ranking, the exclusive games on that thing were so incredible that 90% of them got re-released for the PS4.
Ps3 had online gaming completely free. Compared to xbox360. Also at release, it was the cheapest blue-ray player u could get and blue ray became the standart Nothing like HD-DVD the xbox supported. Rating ps3 below x360 is bullshit.
The Switch is an S for me purely based on the quality of its titles and seemless portability and home console swapping, but I’ll downgrade it to an A because the joy cons get joystick drift so often. I’ve went through around 7 or 8 replacements combined between both joy sticks since it came out. Thankfully it’s pretty cheap and not that hard to fix on your own so I didn’t need to deduct even more points.
I would absolutely love for Nintendo to make an actual console that has the same hardware specs as modern consoles. Imagine seeing new Nintendo ip’s with the same quality as some ps5 exclusives or Xbox series ones.

The switch should never been a portable device, it should have been separated from the start so the Switch lite should have been the only portable device.
Dreamcast was ahead of its time and had a ton of amazing games, it was $200 at launch - I think Asmon was thinking about Sega Saturn which was $400. Comparatively PS2/XBOX was $300, N64/Gamecube $200, Wii $250, X360 $300/400, PS3 $500/600. It's at least an A tier.
Super Nintendo was one of the best. The games were awesome. I mean a lot of consoles were great, but it stepped up a lot from the previous consoles. And the games were challenging and simplistic. I miss when games didn't tell you everything. You just figured it out.
Final Fantasy Tactics on the PSX was my intro to LOVING/no-lifing games, and Warcraft 2 on PSX was my intro to the Warcraft universe and Blizzard games in general. PSX number one for me! Very good list, however. Two thumbs up!
Still remember being 6 years old walking into blockbuster in late 1995-early 1996 and it was just sitting there on display with Mario 64 for demo. I tried it and my life changed forever lol I had to have it
I think the controller is underrated too. you change the way you hold it depending on the game, but 99% of the time you hold the middle and right stem. I think all the people complaining and acting confused about the controller literally forgot how 2nd nature it was to pick up and play with it. it was my first console when i was 5 and i was not confused on how to hold it.
Dreamcast would have done well if it didnt lose it's licensed sports games. the sales from sports games would have carried the life cycle further and gave them the opportunity and time to keep development going for other types of games.

Some of my favorites I remember were Chrono Trigger, secret of mana, secret of evermore, shadow run, Lufia, lufia 2, earthbound, a couple different black key games I believe? And of course super Mario rpg which I agree is one of the best games ever and still holds up today. She also had a lot of original gaming manuals that came with them.
A lot of times I feel like he is just too young to know what he's talking about. I'm 36 years old and I realize that a 30 year old is actually too young to have played any of these devices during their hey-day. The things he said about Game Gear are just flat-out wrong. My sister and I used to fight over who got it because of the fact that it had rechargeable batteries, whereas the Game Boy did not, and during road trips, this meant the difference between having a game system you could play the entire duration of the trip, and having one that you could only play during daylight since it wasn't backlit, and for a brief time period before the batteries would completely die. Don't even get me started on him acting like the computers shown were "stone age." For their time period they were light years ahead. I remember every kid on our block coming over to watch us play video games that would be re-released 10 years later on future consoles since they were that far ahead of their time and basically the pioneers for what kids play now.
No. Lack of games and no game anywhere near the perfection of a SMW, FF7 or OoT. While the NES didn't have a game reaching this level of perfection (except SMB3, but it came really late in its livespan) but it had *the* most innovative games of any console. Nothing can seriously claim to be even comparable to it. I think it's fair.
If you look back through the dreamcast library about 90% of the games are just arcade ports. I don't think it had very high appeal over all due to the limited selection. There are definitely a few gems in there though.

You have to rate x360 higher for innovation. they introduced online play in a big way, introduced installing discs to run games of the hdd, xbox live arcade and the birth/boom of the indie games. Digital store. The controller
The SEGA Nomad was just a Genesis that was portable. Played straight up genesis games. My parents gave me one for Christmas 1996 and I used to take it on family trips. Super awesome.

Every store that sold games had many shelves of PS2 games, you would be lucky to spot more than 2 rows of xbox or nintendo games in that era.
Everyone had a PS2 in europe because you could easily pirate games and it had a shit ton of games so it was an incredible value.
That's almost the same in the states. PS2 and Wii were huge

@@gonzalo2694 PS2 is the best console of all time.
These comments are some of the dumbest i have ever seen

99,9% of the people buying the console had no knowledge of piracy.
-Gonzalo
Horrible analogy.

The PS3 brought Bluray game disks to gaming, along with free online playing with no subscriptions. Defo deserves a higher score.
It came out at 600$ compared to the 200$ Xbox 360 and 300$ Wii. Also Blu-ray was super irrelevant as people had a DVD collection when it released. Very niche. Free online was cool but it also got hacked and many people had to get new credit cards.
Online gaming has always been free. Consoles ruined online gaming forever...

Nintendo may miss every once in awhile but more often than not they knock it out of the park
They aren't afraid to innovate and change things up too. It's good to have at least one of the big names doing that to keep things fresh.
Not really.. they release the same titles every generation and the fan boys buy it (not much of a selection). They never have any good sales in the online market. The graphics are doo-doo.

It's at least an A tier.
Super Nintendo was one of the best. The games were awesome. I mean a lot of consoles were great, but it stepped up a lot from the previous consoles. And the games were challenging and simplistic. I miss when games didn't tell you everything. You just figured it out.
Preach!!!! Now every game holds your fucking hand it’s basically a walkthrough simulator so damn lame.
Final Fantasy Tactics on the PSX was my intro to LOVING/no-lifing games, and Warcraft 2 on PSX was my intro to the Warcraft universe and Blizzard games in general. PSX number one for me!
Very good list, however. Two thumbs up!
The N64 changed the gaming industries way more then some people might remember. My personal favorite so much awesome games
Puts Wii U in D-tier
Me: *Hey U,are Wii going to have a problem*
Funny
I grew up with a snes even though I was born in 97. Got it from my grandma when I was a kid and still remember the giant box of games she had with it.
This man put Dreamcast at a C? He lost all credibility.
Not making PS1 S teir made him lose all credibility period as a 37 yr old who started on NES at 5 yrs old and played all the systems as they came out thought my childhood and beyond
I got my ps2 on the 28th of December 2007, pretty late but those were the greatest gaming years of my life without a shadow of a doubt
You have to rate x360 higher for innovation. they introduced online play in a big way, introduced installing discs to run games of the hdd, xbox live arcade and the birth/boom of the indie games. Digital store. The controller
I grew up on the GameCube (and the Wii) and Super Mario Sunshine is easily one of my all-time favorite games
15:12 (cries in xenoblade chronicles X)
*AND 100 OTHER GREAT GAMES*
Wii U is the best console of all time. No doubt. Try to change my mind just a tiny bit.
The SEGA Nomad was just a Genesis that was portable. Played straight up genesis games. My parents gave me one for Christmas 1996 and I used to take it on family trips. Super awesome.
I agree a big time with Asmons list The Wii was very good!!!!!!
It actually was a GameCube plus more. You could literally play all GameCube games on the wii
AND u could use GameCube controllers on it as well
Personally I think the wii should be an S
@@alexanderjeromewhite2380 right man among list
tbh i literally only used my wii because my gamecube was broken, i don't see any notable titles other than galaxy and even that was kinda meh to me. But of course opinions differ
I was around for all these consoles and got to see the full growth of the industry. These younger generations missed out on the evolution of it all
xbox 360 should be S for its gamescore system
Its still really silly to me that people care about that lol.
But yeah it seems kinda silly to put a console with two widespread fatal errors in S.
@@EbonMaster ok but it deserves atleast an A .
@@worstgraphics3998 ok true but miles aways from ps2
@@worstgraphics3998
Agreed. It's definitely an A console.
360 was awesome in so many ways, so many great games. Still going for gamerscore in 2020
The first three console games I ever got were Super Mario Land, F-Zero and Street Fighter 2. Those are INSANE titles. After that I got A Link to the Past. Well deserved first place.
No way is the PS1 only an A tier console, it had far too many great games and it spawned a lot of new ip's with many of them that are still relevant to this day.
Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil 1, 2, 3, Final Fantasy 7, Tony Hawks Pro Skater... so many.
Yea, a lot of PS1 games are still superior to the current games we have nowadays.
@@hhussy Yup, and to add to that. Ff8-9, spyro 1-3, crash bandicoot 1-3, ctr, gran turismo 1&2, driver, syphon filter, tekken 1-3, silent hill, castlevania symphony of the night, twisted metal 1-3, ridge racer series, wipeout series, tomb raider 1-5, odd world series, xenogears, persona 1&2, street fighter 3, soul reaver, tenchu 1&2
Ps1 was my generation as you can see
Coolest part of the 360 was how easy it was to pop out the hdd
PS1 = My Life
@Andrew Stevenson ps1 was good no matter what age you are.
I never grew up with it myself, but some of my favourite games were on there that i played on the backwards compatible ps2. Tomb raider 1- 3, metal gear solid. Legit some of the best games of all time.
Back when online gaming was first becoming a thing, I honestly thought it was a myth. I couldn’t fathom it that much.
