    I was a portrait artist for over a decade and I left my portrait business for the sake of Allah after I listened to the hadith about the prohibition on displaying pictures/paintings that have a soul. Trust me, leave it for the sake of Allah and Allah will replace it with something even better. I'm still painting as it's my main business but I paint flowers, still lifes and food. Jazakallahu Khair Shaykh Yasir. May Allah bless you.

      Sister, may I ask how is it that what you are doing now is better than what you have given up for the sake of Allah? I ask with the hopes that your answer will act as an inspiration for me to keep going.
      I am currently struggling in a years long battle to give up something for the sake of Allah (S.W.T.). One of the motivations I use is that Allah will replace it with something better.

    Assalamualaikum,
    a very good lecture about this topic!
    I personally considered myself as artist, but mostly I love creating stories, it is what i have always focus on. I create stories by drawings (in my case, very similar to comics/webtoons/storyboard). I have personally thought that as long as what i draw was not intended to be idolized, it would be fine, because what I am drawing is essentially characters (human) that are going through the story plot. Just like another comment stated, i have a hard time trying to swallow the information, that what i create would be a sin. And it would be as if i am recreating the creation of Allah. I am not displaying 'physically' of the drawings, but more of to be consumed, as in to be enjoyed/read upon. The sole focus was telling a story with a visual of the characters. I would like to know or confirm, that if this would still be considered impermissible, and that there is nothing to go around with it. It really does break my heart that if i do have to quit what i have love and what i consider pure of intention to be impermissible.

    This is something I have a whole lot of difficulty grasping, this is honestly the one ruling I find extremely difficult accepting. Its just crazy to me to think that drawing is haram to that degree. Ive always felt that the drawing of living beings would only be haram in the case that its for the intention of people worshipping those beings via that drawing. The thing that comes to mind for me is the old 8-bit super mario brothers images. The original ones, I just cant imagine something as small and silly as that being haram to such a major degree. What happens to any teacher who has drawing a smiley face on a A+ paper? I don't know and obviously am not a person of knowledge, I just find this so hard to grasp. I also have difficulty understanding the difference between creating an image and owning one. If creating images are haram because images are a form of shirk, why would we be allowed to own them? We can have things that dilute the purity of monotheism, we just cant make them ourselves????? May Allah forgive us all for our sins...

    • @sumanh9750
      @sumanh9750 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I dont know if you are aware but there are people in the world who worship and venerate even the tiniest of beings,some even worship a piece of ROCK!. And it all starts with a harmless act of attempting to recreate its form. Look up the story of how first idolism started during the time of Idris a.s.
      It started in a harmless way,and progressed to idop worshipping.
      Hence anything leading to shirk is also to be avoided.

    • @Yazan61

    • @amp7930
      @amp7930 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      My personal viewpoint (without any actual scripture basis) - smileys etc aren't meant to be imitation & drawing but rather is used as a universal language of expression. So I'm not sure if it even comes under creating 2-D living objects. Also many times you don't need to draw eyes for a smiley, just a curved line with concavity upwards in a circle will do just fine, you know, just to get out of controversy, until we know better. Image from drawing and photography should be treated as similar if we consider the following:
    Previously, we capture images manually using our memory and ability to laying strokes and placing colours. Nowadays, we are replacing manual work with imaging technology (photography), which is still about capturing images. And, some talented artists can produce images with better aesthetics than photography (imaging technology).
    The same thing to sculpturing, today, we can do sculpturing using a method called 3D printing. We basically store the memory of the sculpture in the computer (adjusts and modify the way we want) and print it to produce a 3D sculpture. The machine is doing the work.
    My opinion (May be wrong)

    • @isaibnatman2155

      They both differ in that our memories cannot possibly capture every single detail accurately and there is a high amount of creativity involved.
      And the resulting image of a painting totally depends on the artist. And always the artist is the one who is wholly praised for the work.
      On the contrary, the resulting image of a photograph does not totally depend on the photographer coz u may have a crow flying right in the middle just when u were trying to click your award winning photograph!
      And the resulting image is praised for its very existence and angle of view rather than the praise being attributed wholly to the photographer.

    One of the sheikhs said that photographing women is haraam especially if I am to post them on social media, this makes it haraam due to hijab issues but I usually post after permission is granted from the bride/relatives! So is photographing women & weddings in general fall under impermissible acts.

    I don't see any clear-cut conceptual and objective distinction among drawing, carving, painting, photographs, video, and 3-D statue, so long these are not worshipped. Any portrait of living (or even non-living being) if cause distraction during prayer should be removed from the front of salat place for having highest possible devotion and focus towards Allah. If angel dislike image hanged on wall, I guess she/he would not like to see it on floor, pillow etc either. Allah knows best. Thank you for an elaborate deliberation on the issue.
