As someone getting into vlogging, I got the g7x mark iii. Personally, I think the colors look way better on the canon, and after watching reviews, I saw the stabilization was better on the canon, where the sony looked pretty shaky in standard stabilization, which is important for vlogs. The Sony has the best autofocus, but the autofocus on the g7x is good enough.
Did the autofocus on the mark iii improved since early last year? It’s pretty bad for me usually

Do you know what settings are needed on the canon for it to stop losing focus on my face when I move my hands while doing talking head videos?

@@blobbyridesph2886 autofocousing is garbage I just bought mine and I will be returning it please do not but if your wanting to do anything with autofocous especially in videos.

Hey man, this was exactly the video I needed to see, thanks for making it. I currently shoot all of my channels videos with a Canon EOS R, which I absolutely love and have no reason to replace for talking head fits in the studio. But I do my Vlogging with the ZV one which I absolutely hate, And seen the picture and image quality and colors of you shooting this video with the G7 X just made me realize that’s the camera I want for my vlogging. But can I ask you if the image you got was straight out of camera, did you do any color grading or use a custom picture profile? Because I love how soft and saturated the colors of the G7 X compared to how harsh and bright the image of the ZV1 is.
Everything is unedited (no color grading). Straight out of the camera. If you look at my thumbnails for the past 2 months, all of them came from Canon G7X Miii. I cannot sell my G7Xiii because it will be used for talking head and thumbnails a lot!

What is your overview assesment regarding the imge in video and still for both camera? which will you recommend...?
For us, the showstopper was that the Canon has a built in flash, so it is more of an all around compact camera we can carry in a pocket.
ZV1 would kill the RX100 mark 7 if it had a flash and that is still selling for 1200. So imma keep my Zv1 and just add a small flash for my pocket. I just got it so I'm still searing for a small flash!

@lykaf And did they update autofocus? Becouse all had the same problem with losing autofocus.
So I have no idea about cameras but I'm leaning towards the Sony ZV-1 for vlogging but please forgive this question (I googled it and didn't really get a great straight forward answer) but will the Sony work with any taller DSLR tripod? And am I better off buying from Amazon or should I go to Best Buy? Thank you sooooo much in advance!

The Canon G7 X Mark III looks to be the better all rounder camera. It has controls that are perfect for shooting both stills and video. The colors straight out of the camera is also better than the Sony to me at least. It also looks like the build quality seems more high quality compared to the Sony ZV-1, which looks pretty cheap. I did read online that Canon has fixed the G7 X Mark III autofocus with a series of firmware updates they have released. It is currently on backorder on Canon's website unfortunately. This is also great news since it shows that Canon is still putting research development in the G7 X series!

Update: The G7X Mk II first came out in 2016. Canon no longer supports it unless under warranty. Parts for it are hard to find. Ours stopped turning on one day. We searched and finally found a shop that would take on the repair so we sent it out to them. 363 dollars later, and a new main circuit board we are shooting again. Just fyi for those looking at this particular model.
Would you rather have a camera with good auto focus but mediocre stabilisation or a camera with good stabilisation and mediocre auto focus in the context of travel Vlogs/cinematic/flogging? Thanks

In my experience, the Canon Mark 3 is a much better camera. I owned the Mark III until I destroyed it (Don't ask...LOL) Then I purchased the Zv-1. The menu I got used to, but I found the sharpness of the images lacking...They are both great pieces of kit, but the Canon is going back into m y motorcycle tank bag.

I don't know why everyone is comparing so much details but the most important part which is actually the photos that are clicked and the bookeh effect nd screen aperture....!!Not even a single person has shown that. 85% of the videos are useless .. but urs is still better but missing my points still

I own RX100m3 and planned to upgrade to m7 but the jpeg colors are still the same.
Thinking of getting the G5xm2 instead because canon jpegs are always better of them all except fuji.
Before you buy a sony and canon, try to take photos first and see which colors you want, the warmer canon or the dull sony colors.
I agree that the colors on Canon is better. My thumbnails now are shot using G7x Mark III. Just the perfect blur of face & background, good colors and sharp subjects.

I think you would like the autofocus of ZV-1. Canon selling point is the skin tone. So more on image quality then video.

I saw a big difference in the part you recorded with the Sony vs the Canon, which was much less sharp and with less light. Do you find this to be accurate in general? Recently bought the G7 but I'm not hearing the best things ):
There's is a big difference. I recently changed all my thumbnails. Before I was shooting them using Sony ZV-1 and found that they are less appealing in terms of my skin tone. I moved to Canon G7x miii. All my thumbnails for the past couple of moths came from Canon now. I love shooting with touch to focus, I can simply touch the gadget I'm holding to blur my face.
Now, in terms of video recording where I sit down and just talk on my videos, I love the unlimited 4k recording of Sony ZV-1. I love the fast and accurate auto focus, Canon sometimes hunt TBH. It has product showcase that gives you that awesome transition to your face to the thing that your holding. Nothing can beat that.
So pick which is best for your needs.

I have been asking for help in one particular area since I’ve been using the canon G7 X markiii. I have not found anybody on TH-cam who can answer this question. I bought this camera a little over a year ago and I film my still talking videos for TH-cam on it. The problem is during filming. The camera will lose focus and blur out my face often and I don’t see it during recording on the little screen, it’s not until an editing that I realize it’s doing that. It’s so bad that sometimes I’m having to scrap videos and re-film the entire thing which is a big pain in the butt, and other times I just go ahead and upload but I feel my continent is obviously not on point because of it. I’ve tried to figure out what setting I need, I’ve tried to call Canon. I’ve looked up stuff on TH-cam and I’ve just gotten nowhere. Would you happen to know the best setting to have for recording, talking head videos on the canon?

Did you updated the lastest version firmware , they said it's sold the focus issue and something better .
set your focus settings to manual, for the vlogs where you're mainly in one spot or have minimal movement. Otherwise the one distinct advantage the Sony ZV-1 has over the canon G7X Mark ii & iii is this very thing - Auto Focus. So if video is highly volatile then don't expect much from the fore mentioned canon in this department.
