    As a dude who just picks for funsies I have no idea what locksmiths actually do in practice, so it's cool to see stuff like this. Thanks for the vid!

      Most locksmiths would just drill out the lock and replace it.

    This is a very clever picking tool. So well thought out. I enjoy seeing these locksmith specific tools as being a locksporter we would not get to see these tools at all let alone get a review of them. So I do appreciate you doing these type of reviews. I have a few locksmith mates that I mention tools like this to. They work full on and would never have come across a new tool like this without someone mentioning it to them, cheers

    Great tools GJ makes, see a few comments about Locksmiths drilling locks, most Locksmiths would avoid drilling and definitely be a last resort. Warrant Locksmiths need to lock back up rather than replace. These tools are great for picking compared to a traditional flag pick and z bar, much more control. Picks up cam on thumb turns too no messing.

    I do like seeing tools on this channel. It gives insight of the industry

    Looks like this tool mainly just saves time for a pro. For a hobbyist like me those locks look pickable with a set of dimple lock picks and a couple half-diamonds. Although to answer your question at the end: I think its useful to see what pro solutions are out there. It adds to the knowledge base.

    Now that is a really nicely made tool, and I love seeing professional locksmith tool reviews. I have a lot of friends that are locksmiths, at my job they were just drilling cores, or worse using a crowbar on the door destroying everything. Sent them a link to I believe Bosnian Bill's core removal tool, now the locksmiths have 2, and security (the ones with crowbars) have 2 as well (no more destroyed doors). So yes these reviews are very helpful, thanks! Side note, the extra key pieces would work great, but I was thinking of some type of gummy sticker that is easily applied to the handle with index marks, just take it off and wash it then it's sticky again.

    This has given me a great idea for a versatile tool that may even work on Lishi’s. Thanks for the video Ash - you might receive a prototype picking tool from me one day!

    Looks like a really nice tool. I've wondered why a Lishi doesn't have a detachable tip like this to pick something like the finger pins of a Primus - guess it'd be similar to this.

    Cool tool but that doesn’t seem to provide a significant assistance over a tensioner and dimple picks. The challenging bit of dimple locks is often to find the right tensioner / pick combo. If you encounter a specific model often as a locksmith, I assume you will take note of the matching pair and be able to pick as fast as with the tool.

    LockNoob: what kind of tools you want to see?
    TH-cam Community: yes! 😆
    Looks like that tool has the potential to be a universal dimple lock "lishi", if only the scales would be replaceable, together with the tensioning blades.
    As the tool is, a bit "bulky" (not meant negatively), there still should be enough material left, if the scales could be removed/replaced, and maybe fixed with a little grubscrew or magnet. Then it's like:
    Everyone: what lock can I open with this tool easily?
    GJ: yes 😁😂

    so with these tools the real appeal to smiths is the decoding feature more than anything. Im wondering how hard it is to actually cut keys for these dimple + slider combination locks in the field. Im assuming it all comes down to the machine in the van and the blanks available

    • @penfold7800
      @penfold7800 ปีที่แล้ว

      For in-the-field, Probably much easier and cheaper to just replace the lock, or carry pre-cut keys and repin the lock.

    • @TequilaDave
      @TequilaDave ปีที่แล้ว

      @therationalanarchist I agree though, you don't see them picked often. Bit like Stealth locks etc, but if you can make the tool pretty much any lock is pickable if a key can open it.

    • @penfold7800
      @penfold7800 ปีที่แล้ว

      Its more a matter of how much time it takes to pick the lock or making it as awkward as possible to use picking tools. Always have more than one lock securing anything and make sure those locks have completely different mechanisms. For example, have a pin in pin multilock and a mortice lock.

    Tbh it’s not a very hard lock to pick. As a locksmith I know People in the industry don’t want to put the effort or skill that why they would buy a pick like that. But cool vid bro.
