(Still a few miles away) My Uncle put together that log cabin in the painting on the post office. I lived across from the cannon aimed at the traffic and witnessed many late night firings! And oh yeah... my Mom is originally from Southern California! I forwarded the video to her and told her I've been following and am a big fan of yours!😊
I'm 61 and got to see the Beach Boys in concert years and years ago. Dennis was alive and sang with them. They were all dressed in white. Even the equipment was all white. It was an amazing concert and I will always have great memories from it. Thank you for sharing your adventures.
I could be in a bad or sad mood then I hear on the radio one of the Beach Boys old songs and I start singing with them at the top of my lungs ( in the car of course. lol) and I am happy again. Happy Birthday Grandpa.
My parents are from Lima. I was there a month ago for a funeral. I never knew about the soup can or Beach Boy history. A lot of trips there during the 70's and 80's. We stopped at Kewpee, got a new coffee mug. My dad used to work down the street from that Kewpee, a long time ago. My father said he didn't know about the Beach Boy connection, he's 80.
Thanks for the shout-out to Holgate, Ohio! My hometown was the greatest place to grow up. And one great bit of history is that is was the birthplace of actor/comedian Joe E. Brown, who was probably best known for being in "Some Like It Hot". Great town, great people!

PS I'm still back there in the old days. All my family and most of my friends are gone now, mostly from drugs and cancer . love your videos I said this once before a lot of what you do brings back the past for me . Guy that works at our Lima plant, was the caretaker for Al Snow’s place there in Lima. Told me that he did a little of everything there from mopping floors to reffing matches. Also, I know that about 15 years ago, Al was living in Tipp.

Al Jardine's chidhood home at 962 W. Wayne St. was razed in 2016, which actually made it famous for another reason. It was by then heavily tax delinquent with more than $20,000 in assessments. That along with sitting vacant (and un-heated in winter) for several years heavily damged the fabric of the house making it un-inhabitable. Hence it became the first demolition undertaken by the newly formed Allen County Land Bank whose mission was to take down blighted properties like that, paving the way for investment and redevelopment of that land for construction of new homes, while also fostering safer neighborhoods by making these abandoned structures no longer available for for use as drug houses or havens for animals. It appears there was little interest in building anew in Lima as the property has been purchased by the neighbor and conjoined to create a bigger back yard for him.
@@MichaeldeFilippi It IS sad that no one attempted to preserve that home. If you go back and look at the two Google Maps street view images from 2014 and 2009, you can see, even through the decay that it was an architecturally outstanding house. It predated it's neighbors by at least 70 to 80 years, as it appears to be in the Greek Revival/Gothic style from the 1840s. You can still see the elaborate cornice trim beneath the eaves, and from side view where the right hand veranda has fallen away, it reveals that this house was originally red brick with cut stone lintels over the tall semi arched windows. This was an expensive way to build even back then, hence I suspect it had a prominent history long before the Jardine's lived there. Regrettably, the overall appearance of the neighborhood today would indicate that historic preservation is not a viable economic option for the city of Lima Ohio.

While i love the classic "surfer" Beach Boys songs, favorites also include Smiley Smile (1967), Wild Honey (1967), Friends (1968), 20/20 (1969), Sunflower (1970) and especially Surf's up (1971). Though not part of the "hip" scene like The Dead, Airplane or Quicksilver, The Beach Boys were truly psychedelic in the best sense of the word.

If you look on Google Earth, the space is marked as the birthplace of Beach Boy Al Jardin. As Jordan says, it's a shame there isn't a blue plaque to commerate him.

One of my sisters bought the Surf's Up album in late 1971, so that whole album reminds me of of my life in 1972, like a time machine. I always get good feelings when I listen to that album. Favorite songs, Surf's Up, Feel Flows, Til' I Die, and Disney Girls, a great song by Bruce Johnston ❤ If you've never heard Disney Girls, you should listen to it, but I'm sure you've heard it.

The Beach Boys were and are, my all time favorite band. Who didn't love the music they made? One thing the I could never tolerate is Brian's always trying to take over the group with his over powering and sometimes stupid antics. I don't mean singing. The others were sort of quiet laid back but then came Mike, ugh. Murray cause a lot of heartache for Brian, jealous for sure but just overpowering. A parent like that can ruin a man or a woman, speaking from experience. Happy, Happy Birthday Grandpa, you helped make your grandson the man that he is.
Excellent coverage on Al Jardine, as I also have been a long time fan. You mentioned Al loved Folk Music, well it was Al that took the Kingston Trio song The Wreck of the John B. and showed it to Brian. They added the Beach Boys flavor to it, and called it the Sloop John B which was a hit song for them.

The Beach Boys were and are, my all time favorite band. Who didn't love the music they made? One thing the I could never tolerate is Brian's always trying to take over the group with his over powering and sometimes stupid antics. I don't mean singing. The others were sort of quiet laid back but then came Mike, ugh. Murray cause a lot of heartache for Brian, jealous for sure but just overpowering. A parent like that can ruin a man or a woman, speaking from experience.

Excellent coverage on Al Jardine, as I also have been a long time fan. You mentioned Al loved Folk Music, well it was Al that took the Kingston Trio song The Wreck of the John B. and showed it to Brian. They added the Beach Boys flavor to it, and called it the Sloop John B which was a hit song for them.
Mike love had his saxophone stolen from Lakewood swim club just outside Urbana Ohio in the mid 60's. They played there at the coco cabana.
I really enjoyed this Video especially when it was the Beach Boys. I could hear the Beach Boys all the time and never get tired hearing them. It was very interesting on how the band gotten started. Wishing your grandfather a great Happy Birthday and wishing you Jordan a very nice Happy Easter.
