- this is my moddified alfa 156 2.4 JTD 10V... in this video i try and show how the new intercooler is fitted and plumed in......
as you can see it starts off with a slightly over sized air filter located where the crappy standard intercooler was, where its out of the way of heat from the engine and also a good source of cool air from the vent in the front bumper, plus its shaped to have a nice smooth flow look at how nice it flows into the MAF then into the turbo without any nasty bends....
i tryed my best to keep the boost pipes as short as possible with as little bends as possible , but it does have to flow with the body work so some bends cant be helped.... the pipe works is alot longer and a larger diameter than the standard pipes, so turbo lag was going to be abit of a worry with me, but after driving it when it was all back to gether, i noticed no extra turbo lag what so eva, and i also believe it has reduced it abit aswell, with the help of the nice flowing pipe work....
this set up has deffinatly improved power, and it loves to rev now with the help of the smooth intake system and its got a gorgeous turbo whistle now, with a lovley dump valve noise with the boosted air coming back through the air filter.....

Thanx for the video ,Nice pipes for the intercooler !
very impressed with the piping no welds!
@brety099 correct.... its like a radiator just air flows through it instead of water... enters the intercooler hot, comes out cooler
ive seen some intercoolers drop the temperature from 110degrees C to 35degrees C on a test on a ford focus RS
@brety099 no problems, just hope your build goes well, dont be shy puting videos on here of the build
stock power is 140 not 136... i havent done a dyno yet as im still in the process of modding it, but its definatly made an improvment.... no its not the stock intercooler, the standard IC sits where my airfilter is now, nd you can see the mounting plate behind it....
more videos to come as im making the exhaust as we speak
@throughlou yes youve got a point there, i did actualy worry aliitle when i thought of sticking it there, but i wanted the cooler air.. so it would just be a matter of been careful when it rained, and personaly i never drove anything through water (except my discovery) as ive seen the damage it can do to an engine..
ive drove my alfa like this in realy bad rain and its never ever even come close to sucking up water so it cant be that badly designed
@brety099 plus on petrol engines if youve got extreme inlet temperatures in exces of 100+ degrees C (which it can easily do) the fuel can self ignite (pinking) and totaly destroy an engine, so the cooler the inlet air the better, in more ways than one
@brety099 your kidding arent you?????
in simple terms its a way of cooling the inlet air.... why you would want to do that you may ask!!! well with turbo'd engines when the air is compressed it makes the air temperature rise, plus flowing through the turbo it gathers alot of heat from the exhaust turbin, and as most people know hot air expands and rises, thus it takes up more room inside the cylenders, you get less power
Hi, how dou you solve problem with breather hose from crankcase and then from head? Originally it goes by inlet pipe between air filter and turbo to oli decanter at air filter box but on your video i haven't seen it. It just blows to atmosphere?
I used a catch can to collect the oil
Dimmensions of the ic ?? I want to get one, but i dont know how much room is there to install 156 2.4 jtd 10v sw, thanx :)
how did your MAF sensor coupe with this cone filter. i had just K&N filter in standard box and it blew my MAF sensor .?
Please answer becasue i am thinking to do the same this summer .
good luck to get air when this get wet :)
it wont
@abba2y2k o ok so the boost from the turbo goes into the intercooler goes out of the intercooler to the intake right?
ebay one.... i took the bumper off and messured it all up and stuck the biggest one i could fit in
What is the measurements for the intercooler?? As im looking into doing the same thing, also do you have the lenths diamiters and bends for the pipes so i can get some made?? Thanks hope to her from you
Which intercooler have you used?
Did you remap the car after fitting the intercooler?
@awan
MAFs get killed by over oiling filters. Either get a non oiled one or go easy on the oil.
How much horsepower?
Kw..? 5-7up?
@abba2y2k ya ill try
can some1 plzz tell me what an intercooler does
klekot jak w traktorze
still running?
