A tip for parrying: use a small roundshield. They are much easier to parry with since they have larger parry windows. The downside is they don't block all incoming damage, only a percentage of it, so they aren't the best for guard counters. But i know you love parrying :) Also, charged heavy attacks and jump heavy attacks deal the most damage to their stance (it's like posture from sekiro except it's hidden in ER), so you can critical hit them sooner.
I don’t even think he needs it he got good really quick, I noticed he was parrying heavy attacks early on, you won’t take damage but enemies won’t get staggered
Alternatively, get the lordsworn gs from the camp and summon the jellyfish. You can get a fully charged R2 in when he's distracted by the jellyfish and it breaks his posture in like 3 hits.
I do enjoy that everyone, like as a hive mind collective almost, decided that "maidenless" was the same as the "no bitches?" meme. Really brings a sense of community to it all :)

The bloodknife enemies are super annoying. There's an invisible one too. I had to upgrade the undead soldiers just to beat him, because it's pretty much impossible to hit him without them.
@Christoffer Good Bäckängsgymnasiet ES20C agreed. I’ve beaten souls 1-3 but the other game a struggled never finished because of the demand to parry vs just blocking
I don't understand people who shit on new players, I love watching new players, you can see them getting better over time and it's also fun watching someone get beat down. I definitely think you should keep going and upload more Elden Ring
They're the same people afraid (yes, afraid) of the games having an easy mode. And the REAL reason for that? They know they'll bitch out and use it. Like, is it so bad that the game is bought by more people and more successful? Would it be so evil if a disabled person were able to enjoy it as well? No? JUST want them to be semi niche games (yes, I know the sales numbers, but it's an outlier. Meant the "franchise" as a whole.).
@@someguy6152 No. I won't agree. People who fight against easy modes being there, as an option for those who want/need them, know they are going to be one of the ones who bitch out. Period. If you're against an easy mode being an option it's because you know you'll bitch out.

This video FULLY encapsulates a first experience with Soulsborne games. You can hear the joy and relief when Zanny finally got Margit. It's what I love about these games.
Please make a full series on this game, fallen order style. Also really good if you wanna play defensive is put the ash of war "barricade shield" on your shield, which buffs your shield to make you take less stamina damage when you block attacks, allowing you to block more attacks before you get guard broken. Alternatively, I use a greatshield which already has good stamina drain when blocking and the "no skill" ash of war and use the "hoarfrost stomp" ash of war on my main weapon which does crazy damage to anything caught in the damage cone.
The shield he's using in this video is incredibly good. Especially when upgraded. Honestly it's pretty overpowered compared to the other medium shields. I can tank boss hits as a mage with 10 Endurance using it.
I’m glad I’m not the only one who thought the loading screen stuff was concept art, but after exploring much of the game, I can confirm they are all actual in game areas.
I spend 6 fcking hours on him. I was so on edge and pumping adrenaline when he was finally at 1/10 hp that I freaking screamed joy when I beat him few seconds later xd
The best tip I can give is to know what you're dodging. Don't just dodge because of an attack. Identify the attack, what it does, and prepare as it's being telegraphed. This is hard to do early on, especially if you've never seen the enemy before, but it will help.
If you’re really having trouble with a certain enemy, just go in with no souls so you can focus on learning their animations and timing without worrying about dying. It takes away the biggest penalty of death.
I judge whether it's worth slamming my head against a boss based on how many souls I'd lose 2k meh whatever 21k maybe I should try to escape with them 🤔
I came here because someone on the Elden Ring subreddit said people were clowning on you over having trouble with Margit. Never watched a video of yours before, but you're pretty funny and entertaining. No lie I had to hold back a spit take while watching this. The pure elation in your voice when you finished him off was awesome, and you seem to be picking up on the mechanics really fast if this is really your first souls game other than Sekiro. Keep it up and don't let those maidenless runts get you down! I'll be cheering for you along with the rest of the community that aren't a bunch of knobs.
I like to tie the phrase "Difficult but fair" to the FromSoftware games. You're doing great Zanny and have already learned the two most important lessons for Elden Ring. 1: Sometimes it's better to put a boss on the back burner and go do something else to get stronger. And 2: Sometimes the only thing that will help is perseverance i.e. smashing your head into the wall until the wall breaks. Glad you seem to be enjoying the game. Hope to see more videos of this.
@@CrimeaRiver58 Not necessarily. Sometimes you can only put a boss on the back burner for so long before you have to put in the work to kill it. However, going and leveling up can be extremely helpful at giving you an edge.
Killing the bosses is like smashing a wall with your head. Obviously you're gonna need to go buy some helmets and stuff first but also remember to do some head smashing every once in a while. And also remember to buy the nuclear warhead(hehe) for the final wall
I didn't know how to use summons until the Morgott fight. Watching him go through the beginning with it reminds me of how much pain I need not have endured
I've also never played a souls game and at first this game was brutal, I had no clue what I was doing. But the sense of getting better at the game is amazing and addicting. Avoiding some bosses to level up your character doesn't feel like a chore at all, it's just pure fun exploring this amazingly detailed world
I’ve never touched any game of this genre and I’m buying the game today. If I never end up beating it that’s alright. Just looks like a great big workd
Havent played this game yet I was wondering if the lore was delivered to the player Because dark souls was not You have to draw on your on conclusions and assumptions from the bits of info from each item descriptions in the game
@@Zer-db1bp invest in a shield. At least for the runts, it is very easy to parry them because there is a new mechanic to counter them rather than the common arm swish that is very hard to master
@@dyanaforest7174 Well, lore and story as a general is much more comprehensible in Elden Ring than in Dark Souls. In Dark Souls I was like, "huh? Firelink? Age of Fire? Cycle of Fire? what?" but here I understand whatever I've come across so far.
Genuinely best way to get better at these games is to find stuff that works for you. Don’t listen to the dumbasses who say “git gud,” they are maidenless. Try out a bunch of different weapons and see what you like and form your strat around that. The game is harder mostly because of the slight delays on the attacks so you can’t spam roll. As a Dark Souls vet that hit me the hardest. General tips for getting better at these are, don’t neglect leveling your health as some things can’t be blocked or you might end up taking a hit and need that extra bit of health to survive. Shields are also really nice and I will always recommend the medium shields as they can get good parry frames (if you are able) and block a good majority and aren’t too heavy. I usually recommend for new players for souls games go for med rolls or in other words medium gear so that they can start to get timers and stuff when fighting bosses. Also as you were doing in the vid don’t be afraid to come back to a boss later, leveling is great to help give you a little bit more of an edge on bosses. I hope any of this helps sorry if it’s a bit of a jumble tried to think of my best tips and will reply with more later.
I would love to see this become a regular thing, with this being your first souls game and you actually being funny. I recently found you Zanny, and you're quickly rising up as one of my favorite youtubers. You're not pretending to be someone else and most of your jokes land hard enough to get an out loud laugh from me, thank you.
I explored all of limgrave, weeping peninsula, and most of caelid before margit because I heard how hard he was. I guess I did a little too much exploring because my +8 weapons absolutely wrecked him
yes that was a little too much xD I just explored the first map fragment we get and I think i had a good challange. not too hard but I didn't get wrecked
My best tip is: alternate quickly between defense and offense, and never get too focused on one. You have to always keep some level of pressure in order to make the bosses fall so you can get a critical, but you have to keep a good window for dodging and blocking, so... My edgy named tactic is: DarkBlood. Why? Basically, you alternate between Dark Souls' defensive playstyle and Bloodborne's hyper agressive mode. Whenever you feel safe to attack, alternate to "Blood Mode" go for it with all your forces, use jump attacks to close distance, rolling attacks and/or guard counters to punish the boss, always look for an opportunity to hit a charged heavy or an Ash of War, and keep as close as you can for you to dodge the attacks and punish all the time. When you spend too much stamina, is low HP or the boss is doing some really deadly attack/combo, enter "Dark Mode", try to still keep close to the enemy if possible, but be very careful, cower behind your shield as much as you can, only attack if very necessary and try using more light attacks for quick punishments, before hiding behind the shield again. Keep like that for a while, capitalizing on some small opportunities and focusing on staying alive, but try to go back to "Blood Mode" as fast as you can so you can destroy their posture stance and give them another critical hit eventually. Try to diversificate your moveset, spamming light attacks will certainly get you killed. Also, don't panic roll, they've made the roll way less spammable in this game, so that's also a nice way to get hit. Use heavier attacks so you can break posture stances, time your rolls so you can get the most outta the i-frames, don't be afraid to just hide behind your shield when you can, and keep in mind the DarkBlood tip (god, this name is just pure cringe. It would definetly be better if i just called it DarkBorne, but i probably gave it an edgy name on purpose). I hope this helps. Anyway... *GiT gUd ScRuB* 🤪😜😀😂🤡
@@Somerandomedude-go8el Everyone thinks spamming with dual wield is a good meta, but it actually shit. Bosses can sometimes just tank the hits, and it makes you predictable. Plus if anything tanks your hits, you get bitchslapped by whatever obnoxiously large weapon is the meta. Dual wielding isn't great unless it combos very well (like ds3's dual sellswords) so usually you want something like Zanny actually had here. Something fast to spam in one hand, the other a heavy and slow big dps stick to flatten anything you see. Regardless of loadout, skills and such, mobility is your bread and butter so whatever you do just try to focus on that GOOD dodge lmao
@@Somerandomedude-go8el i don't play dual wield, but the best i can say is for you to double down in Blood mode. Considering that you won't have a shield, you'll definetly have to be twice as agressive. Just remember: most of the time you'll be safer if you're close to the opponent. You'll probably be just fine with your power-stance if you're learning well how Weapon Scaling works.
As a long term FromSoft player I've spent 7hrs trying to beat one of the secret bosses. People who look down on you all high and mighty are just weird and shouldn't be seen as THE community Zanny. Even as a souls veteran, Margit was BRUTAL. The amount of random followups and bullshit mixups were something else, but it set up pretty well that the game expects you to use summons and magic. Pure melee does not seem to be the go-to here.
@@kungflupenguin1067 you can do pure melee, but ER gives so much disgustingly powerful ranged option. You can cheese anything with the moonweil 1-2 punch or bleed twinswords, but you have none of that at Margit.
@@yhormthemidget I wouldn't even say there's a disgusting amount of options tbh. It feels like the balancing is backwards and the awesome looking ranged attacks like dropping a freaking moon on enemies does 100 damage, while a pebble that cost a fraction of the fp does 500 damage.
Quick tip! For anyone who hasnt played a souls game and is struggling with margit, 1: Adding a summon raises the bosses health by a bit 2: you should explore around the map and level up whatever you have before attempting the fight 3: his stick can be blocked and parried, his miracles (the spells he uses) cannot be parried 4: dont rush them, its about knowing when to get a few hits in
This is the funniest shit I've seen in months, Elden Ring was also my first souls game and watching someone else try to navigate it for the first time was absolutely incredible. Thanks for restoring my will to live 🖤
Big Sekiro-style tip for you boys: They kept/tweaked the posture damage mechanic but have hidden the bar. RT/R2 attacks are best at draining it, but it fills back overtime. So basically, hit any enemy/boss with enough heavy R2 attacks (jumping attack is blessed) and get free juicy ripostes. Now go absolutely slay some Elden ass
I really hope we get more. You don't even have to do much edits to your boss deaths. Just put the entire playthrough all 500 hours of it on here raw (with some occasional puppy breaks). We'll snort it all up :)
Honestly so amazing to see your fight with Margit, the story of triumph was so real dude, really well done. Exploring to gain power before bosses is probably my favourite thing about the game, never feels like I'm wasting my time with secondary objectives
Here's a tip, When facing a big monster don't hit it for the first minute or so until you've seen its attacks and can get the timing down, then assume SGCP (Standard Giant Circumcision Position). Also practice parrying on the mobs to learn the timings. Other than that, git gud.
@@christiana5453 Ah of course, what you want to do is get right between the legs of the monster and slash away at its jubbly bits, usually one or two hits will do, also don't lock on, get used to aiming with the right thumb stick, as it allows for better strikes (if you look up you'll swing upward) also allows you to see more of the monster so you can watch for the windups. If it has slam attacks, dodge out of range then resume SGCP. Edit: You should really only be attacking once or twice so you don't screw your stamina, plus gives you more time to react to the faster strikes. Other than that is muscle memory and many, many attempts.
As someone who has been a part of the souls community I agree it's can get very shitty but there is also some amazing people. Also you have done very well for you first souls game!

There are awesome enemies in this game, without going into too many spoilers there’s an area that’s just full of giant hands with 20 fingers that grab you and mutilate you.
I've played practically all the games and my reaction to you fighting Margit was more or less the opposite of what those guys were doing. My question wasn't "you haven't beaten him yet?" My question was "why the fuck are you fighting him already?" Lol Because as you discovered yourself your kind of supposed to explore the rest of the open-world and level up more before you go fighting him

One of the biggest tips I can give is use more heavy and charged heavy attacks, particularly after certain special moves. For example, the blood slash has a second stronger attack if you heavy attack after the first one
The thing about Fromsoft bosses - your personal playstyle will heavily weigh into how difficult any given boss is. Some people will find a particular boss very difficult while others will find it relatively easy. It al comes down to personal playstyle.

@14:27 Sekiro is the only FromSoft game with no pvp and a character driven, story becayse everyone is Sekiro (Wolf). As a result there is no OP build of the moment people can abuse, because if its good in PVP it's gonna be OP in PVE. Sekiro is likely the most restrictive and skill based of all the FromSoft games; this is why only about 45% of all players, across all platforms, have beaten the game. Glad to be part of the club, it's still my favorite with this (ER) being like 9.9999 of what Sekiro is; I really enjoyed my time in that universe and hope for more. I do see it's influence, it's what made me switch up to play more aggressive since the AI responds to it. It's Sekiro-lite but the jumping and stuff is from there; which is so helpful. It was developed in paralell with ER as I understand it.
Please do some more Elden ring vids, this game is perfect for content as well as being insanely fun. And PS, for someone who’s never played a fromsoft game you did super well. Ignore the gatekeepers, they just can’t take pride in anything else. Fromsoft games are all they got

Dude, you’re doing great for your first time. I remember when I started ds3 (my first game) it took me forever to beat some of the bosses - especially the early ones and Pontiff (the ponce). The advice I have for you is: Get good (unavoidable, sorry). Plan your build - this can help with damage, tactics and survivability. Only hit the boss once or twice than roll away before he can blink. This does not apply to spellcasting - pyro go brrrr. Upgrade your gear/look for good gear. Most upgrade materials are usually infinite and very commonplace (from prior ds experience, don’t have elden ring unfortunately). And my last tip - enjoy the absolute pain that is a souls like game. If you aren’t mildly insane, you ain’t gonna enjoy endlessly head butting the wall while the boss decides to use your bones for bread.
7:21 LOL the whole trapped in caelid tunnel experience is so apt, I got trapped back in lv1, remember thinking to myself - the game devs are evil sobs....
Don't let the gatekeeping fanboys discourage you, I think a lot of people would love to see this on your channel myself included. The game is basically just dodge/block and hit, with time you can beat anything if you don't give up, and the satisfaction you get after beating a hard enemy is the main reason people play these games.
There is a ruin in the lake in the first area completely surrounded by walls inside there is a weapon. If you put fire resin on it I think you will like the result Remember not to get your legs chopped off if you use it
Placing my bets that his next video is going to be his Destiny 2 ‘The Witch Queen’ experience, and maybe we’ll see him enjoying the game for once, at least until the campaigns over.

Hell yeah man I think he's fun to watch especially when he was fighting Margit.
Those two lessons contradict themselves, you do realize that right?
@@CrimeaRiver58 Not necessarily. Sometimes you can only put a boss on the back burner for so long before you have to put in the work to kill it. However, going and leveling up can be extremely helpful at giving you an edge.
Killing the bosses is like smashing a wall with your head. Obviously you're gonna need to go buy some helmets and stuff first but also remember to do some head smashing every once in a while. And also remember to buy the nuclear warhead(hehe) for the final wall
Well, it's a Die and Retry, no difficulty there.
Did you just call FromSoftware games "fair"?? They are literally built on artificial difficulty and Trial n' Error.

@@Zer-db1bp invest in a shield. At least for the runts, it is very easy to parry them because there is a new mechanic to counter them rather than the common arm swish that is very hard to master
@@dyanaforest7174 Same thing as dark souls.

I guess I did a little too much exploring because my +8 weapons absolutely wrecked him
I did something similar by defeating radahn before rennala and I killed her in almost three hits
yes that was a little too much xD
I just explored the first map fragment we get and I think i had a good challange. not too hard but I didn't get wrecked
Anyway...
*GiT gUd ScRuB* 🤪😜😀😂🤡
hi yes would like to say thank you for the very well informed tip now time to adapt this to a duel wield style. any tips?
Tldr, a soulsborne veteran such as myself can only say. Gut gud kid
What about the cat dude in Stormveil Castle? He never stops attacking so there is no open window

Can you explain SGCP more in depth pls?

@@codythefriendlyskunkboy1780 Sure you can. You Can Always summon Like tear mimic
One of the biggest tips I can give is use more heavy and charged heavy attacks, particularly after certain special moves. For example, the blood slash has a second stronger attack if you heavy attack after the first one
There's so much joy from seeing someone experience and overcome something totally different then you did yourself
The thing about Fromsoft bosses - your personal playstyle will heavily weigh into how difficult any given boss is. Some people will find a particular boss very difficult while others will find it relatively easy. It al comes down to personal playstyle.
5:41 I love that wood sound you added, that made laugh pretty hard.
That emotion rush after beating a boss that has been beating you over and over for HOURS, is exactly what attracts a lot of people to the soulsbornes, overcoming the challenges gives a really sweet feeling.
Hey can I ask you a question did you use summons with margit bc to me he seemed easier than people said, I beat in like 30 minutes of trying but I used sorcerer rogier and maybe that made it easier? Just asking, no hate or anything
@@ulisessalduna4351 he was decently difficult no offense to any of the other players having trouble. And I'm a duel wielder
@@ulisessalduna4351 If you're asking me I haven't gotten the chance to play Elden Ring yet, I just speak from experience with other from soft titles. So I couldn't tell you.
Really hoping Zanny makes another Elden Ring video, this was really fun. It also gives me hope that someday I'll be better at Elden Ring, since I have never played any From Software game ever
I like how zanny goes from beating Margit to casually having 62 thousand runes within the span of 2 seconds
The Baldachin's Blessing item will actually reduce your health by 5% while its in your inventory. I'd recommend using it whenever you are in a boss or just using it to remove the debuff.
oooooh....good to know
it is actually super enjoyable to watch someone new to the genre play elden ring, btw u r soooo much better than most of my friends who are already into souls games, ur doin great ma dude
Please, Zanny. Please. More Elden Ring content. Haven't finished it yet myself but I wanna see more of your playthrough and literally the best creator commentary on TH-cam.
Hearing zanny genuinely scream from the death bird was just satisfaction
He really used his last dying word to say you have no bitches 10:45
Please do some more Elden ring vids, this game is perfect for content as well as being insanely fun. And PS, for someone who’s never played a fromsoft game you did super well. Ignore the gatekeepers, they just can’t take pride in anything else. Fromsoft games are all they got
Seriously though, what is with all the gatekeepers? Dont they want more people to enjoy Fromsoft games so the board of directors can say "lets make another one. Its financially safe to do so. Do they know that thats how company decisions are made?
@@randommortal3383 I think it's because they're afraid that if a lot more people get good in this, they wont feel special anymore.
@Martin Øverby i didnt know that actually. Slapping, spitting, sure. Actually splitting someone's skin. Thats just outta control from where Im standing.
Been following you since fallen order. Don't ever stop being you and playing the way you play. It's amusing, entertaining, and I find new things to try. Elden Ring is my first Souls game also, and I'm nowhere near where you're at. 😆 thanks for the great videos. 👍
Please continue this series, watching someone go through elden ring while not having any souls game experience will be awesome to watch
12:21 First time in my life I've heard someone ask "Why is there a goat throwing hands?!" xD
Dude, you’re doing great for your first time. I remember when I started ds3 (my first game) it took me forever to beat some of the bosses - especially the early ones and Pontiff (the ponce).
The advice I have for you is:
Get good (unavoidable, sorry).
If you put fire resin on it I think you will like the result
Remember not to get your legs chopped off if you use it
4:10 Jesus, same idea here
1:01 “Touch Grace” 4:12 “But you, I am afraid, are maidenless”
*They can’t keep getting away with it!!!* (shakes fist defiantly) ✊
elden ring is for twitter users

You got something to say Zanny?
Placing my bets that his next video is going to be his Destiny 2 ‘The Witch Queen’ experience, and maybe we’ll see him enjoying the game for once, at least until the campaigns over.
10 bucks says it’ll be a games he’s never done on the Chanel before and enjoy it so much he makes a mini series out of it
Ignore the community Zanny, gamers™ are always toxic. It's cool to watch some who's basically new to the genre play through and appreciate the game. Also you should watch VaatiVidya if you wanna get immersed in the lore; great creator honestly.
facts
preach bro! There's so many ppl shaming others for using summons or magic to beat a boss too. Just let people play how they want.
Ikr
Did you trademark the word gamer?
@@anthonyargueta131 100% agreed. the game's got magic and summons in it for a reason, there's no shame in using them. Besides, it's a single player game, someone using the "easy" items and equipment to play doesn't effect anyone else
