- Today we take another look at the extremely popular WLTOYS 144001 and find out if it is still a worthy option in 2022!
These Cheap RC buggies are known for being durable, fast and ideal platforms to upgrade straight out the box!
They arent perfect and they certainly aren't the best but they used to be one of the cheapest GOOD options to get you into the RC hobby!
Unfortunately with increased shipping/tax costs these buggies now cost a lot more than they used to which makes me wonder… are they even still worth it?
The 144001 featured in this video is my original 144001 from when I first started my channel but I have since replaced the body, servo and ESC!
Everything else on my buggy is stock!
Get the WLTOYS 144001 here: uk.banggood.co...
Brushless RTR version here: uk.banggood.co...
So is the WLTOYS 144001 still a good option in 2022?
If you can find one cheap enough then yes but I would definitely consider the brushless RTR as that does offer more of a complete ready to go package without having to make any major modification.
It's also more than fast enough being 2s and 3s ready.
I love these little buggies as they are easy to transport and throw in a backpack ready to bash
anywhere!

The WLTOYS 144001 used to be the budget king but increased shipping/tax/issues mean its no longer a budget friendly option. It is still one of the best beginner friendly and upgradable platforms but sadly kind of redundant now as the 144010 brushless is here. What a great buggy this used to be! Do you own a 144001? What do you love about it? Be sure to sub and the 20k Giveaway will be announced very soon! 😎👍
I have three 144001 and one 144010. I still love them all however my AMX 12 has stolen my heart at the moment thanks to your BEYONDRC code at Rlaarlo which is still active by the way. I contacted Rlaarlo customer service and asked if the could reinstate the code and they did immediately they also sent me a code to get 15% off replacement parts.
My 144001 has been a great car for me. It's low cost and readily available parts emboldened me to experiment and learn. It has earned it's place as one of my landmark cars.
💯😎👍
I've still got my 144001, and it's pretty much, bone stock. And it's still so much fun to run. My son beats the snot out of it, and it always comes back for more. 👍🏻
Love that Rob! Cheers
Bought mine for £65 back in the day, both still running strong. If I'm going out I often just put one in the truck, just in case I get a chance to run it. Great buggy... john
Couldn't agree more john 😎👍
I used bangood a few weeks back for the 124017 based on your reviews of similar buggies. It reckons it will ship in December but I've heard many people are cancelling orders because they never get back in stock
Definitely a stock issue with Banggood at the moment. Samples for review arent even turning up. I think China is struggling to get stuff over to the west :/
Try Ali express, just brought two.
love this thing already, picked one up (2nd hand) which is around 60-65 euros (included shipping) and the guy was just done with the hobby it seems, bought a lot of alu upgrades, shocks, extra arms, extra battery, extra wheels, swapped all the electronics to a brushless setup.. it is just a very good deal i could not pass :)
Great video my friend, very nice presentation😃👊👍
Thanks 💯😎👍
Can't believe they have gone up that much Rik. Still alot of fun but I certainly wouldn't pay £100 for one especially with the other options available in the same price bracket. I never got the brushless one but I have got the EAT 14 which is almost identical anyway. The 144001 one will always be special to me. It's where it all started!!!
If they were still £60ish they would still be flying off the shelves. Shame things have changed so much and they are no longer a very good option. The eat 14 once the cogging is sorted is the exact same chassis so is pretty much the same!
@@beyondRC yeah I the EAT14 was just a rebranded WLTOYS 144010 V1. Still pretty good and I got that for £80.
Nice video, might see you there as that track is near me✌️👊🏻👊🏻
I could meet you there for some RC action!👍
Would definitely be up for arranging something. I usually pop down there with a couple other lads once or twice a month.
@@beyondRC I’d love to come along, let us know what days and when👍🏻
Brilliant video mate like the information I love ❤️ the wltoys 144001 I've upgraded mine it go's over 100mph now its nuts 😳😜
Thats awesome! 😎💯👍
Bought it today for €90 with 3 batteries. Only the 3 batteries would cost me between €60-€70 so I think its a great deal
Already having a 124019 brushless upgraded and a HBX 16889A PRO. Thinking of swap the motor and ESC to the 144001 for bashing and making the 124019 a speedrun toy 😁
Great little buggy, I really like mine
Well said. I thought high price was caused by the pandemic, but they are not coming down. It's correct to dethrone the 144001.
Sad really as the 144001 has always been the one I recommend to most people 😐
Looking for one of these right now, the brushless version isnt quite as available yet. Love that these fit the 36 size motors, perfect for some of the spare gear i have 👍
Yeah was thinking the same and just ordered on banggood a red one with 3 batteries for €90 😁
Man, thanks to your videos and tutorials i've been able to fully upgrade my 144001. It was a great learning process and my rc car is just amazing now. Ps, do you recommend any lipo better thant the original ones that also fit on this car?
Much appreciated and glad my vids helped! You can easily fit 2200mah 2s in these! I have a bunch of 2200's 👍😎
I was going to buy two of these, but then I lost my job. Now with new job, just waiting for funds to build up again.
My first car is the 144010, only joined the hobby in August!
Bought my 5th car yesterday 😮😂
They are the perfect starter buggy and a great way into the hobby! 😎👍
Same. It’s so fast I have a hard time finding areas big enough to contain it. It probably isn’t the best choice for beginners but I didn’t care, with a 3000 2S it’s insane lol. I love it.
Same thing happened to the A959-B
124019 is still better, because the longer wheel base and it's gone up in price as well, but still a better speed run platform, is why many people have hit over 150mph in them.
the 019 is better for speed runs for sure as its more stable 💯😎👍
Ricky, really, I'm surprised. In my case, I did not purchase the 144001 because the EAT14 was/is available and you don't need to upgrade anything. The EAT14 ends up costing less overall when comparing to a 144001 with decent upgrades. I know, you can't remember everything! Lol.
The eat 14 is still a good option but they did suffer with cogging issues out the box. I cant remember back if they sorted this im pretty sure they didn't. WLTOYS gave us the V2 models which solved the cogging on their V1s but not sure about the EAT14 👍
@@beyondRC I solved my EAT14 cogging issues by buying a 144010 V2 motor and pinion set and it fits perfectly.
@@adrianpilbeam7403 that's what I love about these cars. Parts are interchangeable which makes things so much easier!
Whens RLAARO gonna hook up with you? Can't wait for some AM-X12 videos!
It's on the way 😎😎😎
So my 144001 just locked up on me, (the fronts turn freely and back turn freely separately) but when I turn the car on it gets overheated and its hard to roll fowards or backwards. Do you have any solutions?
Hey bro, could you recommend something cheaper than this from the video store for an 8-9 year old boy?
Make a tire list vedio on cheap rc
Could you please review the Bezgar HM102 for a below $200 Rc car?
Will have a look 😎👍
The 14401 reminds me of my old Losi Mini 8ight, so I ordered one yesterday from Walmart and got a pretty good deal, the brushed version w/3 2s 2200 batteries for $88.99. I'll upgrade to brushless later and other upgrades, but this is a starting point
They certainly can be upgraded. Check out my world’s fastest Wltoys 144001 at 117 mph:

Awesome!! 😎👍
Got mine on eBay yesterday for 85 dollars
Hello I'm in England right now before I was in Luxembourg
If HBX made a buggy like this would be awesome
That’d be the eachine ec30b then.👍
@patrick marcus exactly that. 😅
I am hoppy with it..but i consider brushless..
If you can get a cheap brushless combo it is a worthwhile upgrade for sure 👍💯
I regret buying it. Got it last summer for 80€, lasted 2 days. Since then I’ve spend 100€ fixing it and it has mostly been out of commission. I probably haven’t spent 10 full 2600mAh batteries on it yet. ESC and motor is currently fried and it’s not worth fixing I think.
I regret it especially because my second car last Christmas was the Arrma Granite Voltage for 99€ which is from another planet. This car has been fun, unbreakable and I have spend at least a hundred 5200mAh batteries often in sets of 3 back to back driven by 5 and 8 year olds. I have spent 5€ for a drive cup in total. Only yesterday it asked for a new esc after a long bashing session in long grass and I couldn’t be happier. This is a truck I’m happy to spend money on.
Like I said, I totally regret it. I’ll probably just keep it on a shelf to remind me to make better choices in the future and not give in to the buzz and the noise!
Sorry to hear you had a bad experience! These wltoys are generally quite good but not for everyone. Cheers
I just bought one brand new last night for 59 usd
i just bought one brand new, also for 59 usd. they were on sale on the walmart app. and i think last week the 959b was on sale for like 65 or 70 or something
@@JuanSanchez-zz3me that's where I got mine too, I'm probably gonna buy another one too lol
Why use banggood? I picked up a 124016 V2 from Aliexpress for £77 on a mega offer
Where is that track??
Rayne, Braintree, Essex mate!
Mines still going strong and still takes a beating and asks for more.....
Really good to hear! Hope you are good Phil! 😎👍
They’re fun but break way too easy
Had one on order for 3 months and was never shipped so cancelled it. Banggod going a bit pants nowadays.
Are you serious I’m sorry to hear that, Banggood support has always been instant for me and I’ve always gotten my money back or a new product sent whenever something doesn’t arrive
ya, many products are out of stock at Banggood and it took them forever to replenish..
Think they are having stock/shipping issues at the moment as they are also getting in certain products later than makerfire etc
@@fiercetatsu6782 Took them a month to refund me as they kept demanding to me to 'Kindly wait longer' Even after 6 weeks past the expected delivery date. Wasn't shipped, just out of stock.
£108 quid shipped, taxes, 3 lipos and a controller, ready to run is cheap in anyone's books. Show me a better deal?
The point is they used to be £60 shipped 2 batteries and controller. Prices have almost doubled. The brushless rtr is only slightly more expensive now which is way better.
I had two of those 144001s and they were both garbage.
They were worth it when they costed a lot less. Almost nothing branded compared and we're a great entrance into the hobby. You may disagree that's cool I know a lot would agree 😎👍
The 144010 has cogging issues and its more expensive
£49 on wish
Its 2023 btw
Check when this video was released (2022)
Brushless = $150
FUN BASHING BUT.
NO FUN FIXING.
NO FUN ORDERING PARTS.
