@32:16 that's a genius way to schedule the shoot. Filming the therapy sessions after filming the the rest of the experience/flashbacks so it feels completely real when Grace is recounting her life. This was a great panel and case study discussion. I loved this mini series. Thank you so much for posting!
Brava! Loved this series. Utterly amazing, cinematography, costumes, period-pieces, actors and script were brilliant. The butter-churning on the porch was such a simple yet beautiful touch. As a mini-series, it truly worked. A feature film would not have been enough to satisfy. Take a bow, Ladies and Gents.
My relatively new boyfriend and I started watching Alias Grace on a whim last night (we’re very late to the party) and it blew our minds. I’m not surprised that there is an amazing team of female creatives behind this project, but I am pleasantly surprised that my boyfriend has responded with such interest to a project that I think is so thoroughly resoundingly feminine in scope and perspective. I know there is a broader audience out there for stories about women than they have traditionally been marketed to--The Handmaid’s Tale has really shown some of the possibilities therein-but Alias Grace feels a little more traditionally so, with elements that go beyond a female lead to UK/Irish accents, period costumes, floral scenery, Victoriana, and its being (apparently this is a women’s thing now) true crime. It seems from looking at web reviews and YT commentary that Alias Grace unfortunately had a narrower audience than Handmaid’s Tale, maybe because of those reasons, which is too bad because I think it’s a haunting, badass psychological thriller. I have no idea what to make of Grace and whether she is “innocent” or not, and my brain is twisting all up inside of itself trying to figure out what innocence even really is, so I think I’m right where Margaret Atwood and the team who put this series together want me. Brava, ladies. Also, extra points for the newish boyfriend, who has no appetite for traditionally masculine action films and loves well-made explorations of female subjectivity. I can’t wait to turn him on to Margaret Atwood’s comic books ❤️.

النهايات المبهمة تعطي مساحة أكبر لخيال القاريء/ المشاهد للتحليل والغوص في أعماق الحكاية، الأجمل انها جعلتني كمشاهدة اسقط واقعي وقناعاتي على الاجابات وبهذا أكون شريكة في العمل ولست فقط متلقيه
Your comment made me smile ::) The author cultivated the ambiguity and open questions present in the historical story, and the creators faithfully carried them forward in the film. The ending and these questions better serve the theme and I think the result is wonderfully meaningful.
