There is specific distance between teeths on chain ring, so if you have worn teeths you must replace it. New one is around 15€ so no need to save money on chain ring
We offered the bike owner to order a new sprocket, but it was expensive, and the delivery would cost 26 euros and 2-3 weeks of waiting, so he refused and decided to take his chances with the old one. Luckily, it was not too worn out yet, so everything worked out
