  • [Team Introduction]
The Yosakoi team "Daruma," based in Kochi City, was formed in 2012 and has participated in the festival nine times to date. The team brings together members who love Yosakoi, attracting dancers from a wide range of ages. One of its key attractions is the welcoming atmosphere, making it easy for anyone to join, regardless of dance experience, with participants ranging from 6 to those in their 60s.
This year's theme is "Oriental Pop Zipangu." It aims to present an entirely different performance from past "Daruma" routines by expressing exotic Eastern charm in a pop style. The music includes not only Yosakoi-bushi but also Indian and Arabian influences, along with rap and jazz, delivering an upbeat and dynamic experience.
The choreography emphasizes formations, incorporating the largest amount of movement in the team’s history, balancing individual expression with a strong sense of unity. The costumes feature two main colors, red and green, with turbans adorned with the team's trademark Daruma. The team's float also uses red and green as its primary colors, creating an Oriental atmosphere.
    [Yosakoi Festival]
The Yosakoi Festival is a lively event held annually in Kochi City, Kochi Prefecture, from August 9th to 12th. Started in 1954, the festival was initiated to revitalize the local economy and energize the community.
During the festival, around 190 teams and 20,000 dancers participate, performing energetic dances with naruko (wooden clappers) in hand. Each team competes with unique costumes, music, and choreography, performing at 17 different venues throughout Kochi City. The festival begins with an eve celebration on August 9th and concludes with a national competition and an evening celebration on August 12th, enveloping the entire city in a festive atmosphere.
Due to its popularity, the Yosakoi Festival has spread across Japan, with many regions hosting their own versions, such as the "YOSAKOI Soran Festival." Furthermore, it has expanded internationally, with events held in countries like the United States, Canada, Australia, France, South Korea, and Taiwan, where Yosakoi is performed in a unique style that blends Japanese tradition with local cultures.
The Yosakoi Festival plays an essential role in revitalizing local communities and fostering international exchange.
