I've found that on default black splits, a luma key would be better than a chroma key. Keep the range fairly tight on it, and you should be able to get a slight opacity behind the slightly grey splits. It targets the darkness, leaving your bright stuff in place since it targets brightness as opposed to hue.

If you want to have an image as a background of the live split window and still want it transparent you can add the filter "Color Correction" and set "Opacity" to whatever you want I recommend somewhere around 50

Wow! This was an amazing tutorial. This was exactly what I needed, and I was able to get it done rather quickly. The one note I would throw in there is to pay close attention to your font sizes and formats when doing the chroma filter. Cheers, and I just subbed. Great video!

But since you have to press a button to end the split, you can't really take the timer precision seriously because there's gonna be some human variance. You're gonna have to go back and time the run after the fact for an accurate measurement, and even then you have to have an exact point of reference agreed upon for where a split ends if you're comparing to other people.
thats exactly what I thought too. I rarely watch speedruns but I always wondered if they connect their console to a computer, in order to track the time xD

Not sure if it will work but maybe you could try to put game in full screen windowed mode if that’s possible. Sometimes that helps when using outside programs.
@@jansenncuber8009 Do you wanto to know what windowed mode is? Press F11 or Alt+Enter while your game is runed and you'll learn it. If id doesn't work look in settings. Change FULLSCREEN MODE to WINDOW MODE

I see people in streams set their Switch system time to something, which automatically puts their LiveSplit timer to a negative so they can time their Start button press. How is that done?
I'm so glad Hyrule Warriors has an in game timer (doing a specific level over and over because I really like the level and because no one's using Fi and she deserves justice since you don't get to use her until later into a Main Story new game speedrun.)
Bro I followed all steps correctly but still when I open my game (getting over it with Bennett foddy), the timer automatically disappears I have enabled always on top option in layout settings can you (or anyone) please help me?
@@MuddyMuzzy i am trying to minecraft speed run and other minecraft speed runners go in full screen and when i go out of full screen my game is a little delayed
@@g0ldmch769 maybe the other speedrunners have a second screen, so they can play on fullscreen on the first one and have the timer and the recording program on the second one

*Most video formats do not actually have 100 frames per second* (PAL is 25fps, NTSC is 29.97fps), so you won't get 1/100 second accuracy. Your clock will only be as accurate as the video format you use. *If you want to create video that is accurate to 1/100 of a second, you'll need a specialist camera and playback system that can handle that speed.*

When I speedrun games, I can't split unless I click the timer first so it slows down the Speedrun.
How do I make it not do that?
you need to put global hotkeys on in settings

You have to either click on livesplit itself or check the box in the settings that says "global hotkeys" or whatever.
