    its a really good camera not good in low light (if you don't long expouse) because of noise but i really like it and its on a professsional level trust me ! buy it if you are on a budget just get a prime lens with F1.4 or 2 and you are in the game

    You are seriously the best camera reviewer on the net. You're very fair, you cover everything important and above all your reviews are easy to understand someone relatively new to photography like myself. Thank-you!

    Thank you for your review. It is still relevant in 2018! I stumbled upon a 550D/T2i this week. No sense in buying the latest & greatest retail model offered, just upgrade as availability and budget allows. They all do much more than I am capable of utilizing anyway.

      You're welcome, thanks for finding it! Ah, the good old days when one of my camera reviews could gather over a million views!

    No, we didn't have video production classes at school. We hardly had any computers either. Consider yourself lucky. What we did have though were English language classes which are still amazingly useful.

    If you're into wildlife photography, having the right lenses will be more important than a full-frame body. The smaller APS-C sensor is actually beneficial for shots of distant subjects.

    Shot this with my t2i, definitely a good starter camera. Check out the photo let me know what you guys think!

    I wish this guy would hold a class on how to review, well, anything. So many reviews today are simply some guy trying to cram in as many catchy adjectives as possible, which results in me watching a 10 minute video with about 30 seconds of useful information. This reviewer actually spent the majority of the time reviewing the camera. Much thanks!

  • @cameralabs
    @cameralabs  14 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    @hbuglilly If its clicking, that could be the lens aperture adjusting as the brightness changes. Try shooting with manual exposures and fix the aperture - see the manual. The stabilisaiton motor can also sometimes be heard,. so you may want to switch off IS.

  • @cameralabs
    @cameralabs  13 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    @VideoDocR It's an interesting observation, but I'm certainly not hiding anything myself! I haven't noticed one brand being particularly more prone to failure or returns than another. You'll hear more complaints about the bigger brands in any category though as they simple sell more units. Most reviewers look at a product at the start of its life, so the best people to comment are the stores which handle the returns.

    Just last Saturday, I purchased the Canon EOS Rebel T2i, my first DSLR camera and must say that I was very impressed with the features after trying it out. The photos were very detailed and clear, which was what I was looking for a camera that takes crisp clear photos. I enjoy watching this review and I am glad that I purchased this camera for it is above my expectations. Thanks for sharing.

    Gordon, you are the God of camera reviews. After watching your videos I'm actually hoping for more cameras to come out, simply so you can make reviews of them. Truly, you have made purchasing my first DSLR an easy task. Thank you.

  • @cameralabs
    @cameralabs  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @davidcapi Thanks for trying to support us! You may also want to try B&H through cameralabs . com when they are back in stock. An imported model will only be guarenteed for the country it's from (so if it breaks in the warranty period, it'll need to go back to the USA), and it'll come with a US mains plug, but you can swap the cable for a local one if preferred, or use an adapter plug. The charger will work anywhere.

    Learned more about Canon's 2Ti from this 20min review than I would have after hours of trying to process the manual through an ADD gray-matter haze. Very helpful, clear and concise information along with a pleasant and highly informed presentation. Invaluable, thanks for taking the time to put in the hard work, you should be on the tele. Brilliant!

    @TechCuber If you don't have the H option you saw in the video, you may need to enable ISO expansion in the Custom menus. It's all in your manual.

  • @cameralabs
    @cameralabs  12 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    In Live Vire the mirror stays up and the sensor and screen remain active. This all consumes power and heats up the sensor, so most live view modes switch off after a set time.

  • @cameralabs
    @cameralabs  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @Sa6ee The remote control program is called EOS Utility and comes with al recent Canon DSLRs including your 500D - it should be on the main software CD which came with it.

  • @cameralabs
    @cameralabs  14 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    @Rocknthebounce Blimey, he's a postive kind of guy! Yes the 5D and 7D are tougher cameras - they're semi-pro models - but the 550D / T2i will be fine for many years so long as you don't drop it or give it a hard bash.

    Excellent review!! ...i have just recently bought my T2i but i'm having a little problem with while recording video.... it's just that it says " movie recording has been stopped automatically" once i have recorded a few ten seconds of the video... this did not happen earlier.... i've been trying to see if it's any settings error but ...no luck......
    I hope you have the answer to this one ....thanks!!

  • @cameralabs
    @cameralabs  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @TechCuber it's not in the manual mode, you need to enable ISO expansion in the custom menus - please read the ISOs ection in your manual.

  • @cameralabs
    @cameralabs  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    To shot with the screen you need to put it in Live View - see your manual. But using the 'hole' is the way this kind of camera was meant to be used for most of the time and you'll find the focusing is very slow when using the screen.

    That was a serious review! I went to the full review at cameralabs & was amazed. I bought a T2i back in Oct and was just looking at reviews to see what people where saying. Its my 1st DSLR and I enjoy it. Your review is awesome! I learned about the pros & cons. I have been taking DSLR youtube tutorials for about 2 weeks and now have a better understanding of what makes a good camera good compared to my entry T2i. I love the review and I think the T2i is a great beginner DSLR.

    I bought myself 550D last year as a birthday present and it never disappointed me. I know it's not the best camera out there but I think it's a brilliant camera to learn and love photography. I learned from my 550D that talent is not in the camera but the photographer himself. So don't distress yourself about deciding which camera to buy. Just buy the camera which you think is the best for you. It can be canon, nikon, etc. But thumbs up if you are a canon fan. =]

Thanks again for a very informative review, certainly helped with my decison making.

    Great review! my teacher recommended this camera as a good starter on digital (I'm used to film but I've been planning to switch to digital because it takes too much time and energy to develop film these days) Your video has officially persuaded me to upgrade my system! Thanks so much!

  • @cameralabs
    @cameralabs  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @mickysim123 It's not that they break at that point, it's just a guarenteed number before the timing of the shutter may not be as acurate - you're looking at about 100k shots for consumer mode, 150k for semi-pro and 300k for pro bodies.

  • @cameralabs
    @cameralabs  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @BurgarProduction Do you mean in the live view segment? It was on a tripod, but the 10x magnified view is very powerful, so even blowing on the lens will show a wobble!

    I visited your web page by accident through Google and bang. Not only that you also highlight other lenses that can suit different purpose, so Thank You!

    Hi Gordon, I watched this review yesterday, a full day after you posted it, and it was still at the lowest res..... it's amazing how long it takes TH-cam to convert it to 1080p. I'm now loading it again, and will watch it at 1080p. I was dead set on the 7D, but you have convinced me the 550D is the way to go - From the rave reviews of this camera, I'm going to say it's getting the same hoopla that the Canon G2 did back in 2001 , and what an amazing camera it was. Thanks Gordon

  • @cameralabs

    Tough decision... I'd go for the D3200 if you're a beginner who'd appreciate the guide mode. I'd go for the other two if the flip out screens would be useful to you. I have no personal preference!

  • @cameralabs
    @cameralabs  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @HappyDude224 The 50mm f1.8 becomes a short telephoto lens on the 600D / 550D, so while it's great for portraits, it's too long for general-purpose shots. As such I wouldn't recommend it as your only lens. So if those are your only two choices, get the 550D with the 18-55, then buy the 50mm later if you get into portraits or low light work.

    @awsomepossum1340 Sadly not, the viewfinder on a DSLR requires the mirror to be down - and when filming video, the mirror is up. If you want to film video with a viewfinder, you'll need a mirrorless ILC like a Sony NEX or Micro Four Thirds.

  • @cameralabs

    @AETrainingDavid97 $780 is the cheapest price you'll find for the 550D / T2i, but always check the stores as you may not like their reputation. You may prefer to shop at the more famous ones, in which case the price will be closer to 899. Either way though, please do go through my site - thanks!

    @FIGHTTHECABLE Did you look at the results pages on my review? I compared it against the D90 which has the same image quality as the D5000, and I think you'd agree the 550D is far from terrible. Also, while the D5000 only has 720p video at 24fps, the 550D has 720 and 1080p at a choice of frame rates. But as I said at the end of this video, that's not to say it's for everyone.

    @ptlofts Here are the "extra" features that the 7D offers:
    1.) Magnesium body. The 550D is sturdy, but it's not made of magnesium, like the 7D. However, that also makes the 550D a lighter camera.
    2.) Higher burst rate. Due to the 7D's sensor (exact same size as the 550D - crop factor = 1.6), you can shoot 8 frames per second on the 7D (only 3.7 fps on the 550D).
    3.) The 7D has a 100% viewfinder, so what you see is what will appear on the image. The 550D's viewfinder only shows about 98%.

    I have the Eos 550D for over 1 year now (bought it in june 2010) and it's still a superb camera! In a matter of fact, I am glad i didn't spend much more for a 7D because with my 70-200mm L lens it's just the right weight for on the go. The battery lasts forever (which was important for me) and ofcourse the image quality. Also the screen is really good compared with my Eos 450D (good for histogram readings). I don't think i would upgrade to the Eos 600D since it is not a big improvement atm.

    I'm a moderate beginner in photography as well and I bought the 550D last friday. I can report that for photography, this camera is as great as for the videomaking. I was recommended by several people (salesmen and canon-using friends) that the 550D was better for beginners with some experience, because it would give you more possibilities than the D3100. I didn't have the opportunity to compare it with the very similar D3100, so if you do, grab it! But as far as the Canon concernes, it great!

  • @cameralabs
    @cameralabs  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    I see 40Ds on sale on ebay for about 250-350 bucks. The problem is there's since been a 50D, 60D and now a 70D is coming soon. The 40D is an old camera in digital terms and you may not get much for it anymore.

  • @cameralabs
    @cameralabs  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @dragongundam88 Well the 1.2 will gather more light than the 1.4, but only a little and it costs a LOT more. I think of the three Canon 50mm lenses, the 1.4 strikes the best balance of price and performance. PS - just remember to buy it through one of the partner stores at cameralabs . com to support me - thanks!

    @TylerVanderkooy Use the lowest ISO and really close down the aperture, maybe like f22. A 30 minute exposure is very long and will let in a LOT of light, You may need to try some shorter exposures first, like 5 minutes, or even 1 minute until you get a feel of the correct exposure.

    You really should be on TV doing this for the Gadget Show or something. There's no need for any other review videos. Excellent!

    @Fisk4Ever - When you're in film mode, go to the menu settings and there's an option to allow for auto focus during recording..

    @sayrith yes you can. you can install magic lantern onto your t2i but there's no guarantee as to if your camera will work properly after the installation,and you will void your warranty in the process. by hiss i mean audio hiss, not grain hiss (noise). the audio hiss is extremely hard to fix. you may want look into a camera that has no audio gain control (agc) such as the t3i. you can buy it used for the same price as a new t2i. but it's really up to you how important no hiss is in your videos.

    Extra comments:
    1.) IQ (image quality) of the 7D and the 550D are exactly the same!
    2.) Added bonus of high-resolution APS-C cameras like the 550D and 7D: More zoom with zoom lenses (500 mm x 1.6 = 800 mm) than with the (more expensive) full-sensor 5D or 1D series! Less vignetting (darkening around the image's edges) as well.
    I am getting the Canon EOS 5D Mark III when it comes out (probably in 2011) for macro, portrait and wide-angle work, but my 550D is great value for money! I love it!

    I got this camera in 2019. I also have a Nikon D200. I like older cameras because there's still life in them.

    @criticaltinker Thanks, much appreciated! PS - nice lens too... make sure you tell us why you went for that one in the 'which 50mm did you buy' thread in the Canon section of the cameralabs forum...

    @sayrith the t2i has a mic input, manual focus, iso, aperture, shutter speed control. these features apply to the movie mode too. the t2i both supports FULL manual control for video. the only downside to the t2i for video is that it has auto gain control, so you get a lot of hiss in the background since the camera tries to adjust to keep volume at the same level. video quality: the t2i has 1080p at 30/24fps, 720p with up to 60fps. excellent video quality- look up some examples!

    @castingsinkers Doesn't anyone read the manual anymore?! It's been a while since I tested it, but I think it was High ISO expansion in custom settings.
