    I have an I&E degree and have been an electrician for 14 years, figured I should study up and go get my masters. I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for this free education you have given us.

    good video and nice teaching skills. I only got the first question wrong. It surprised me because I have no electrician experience, just started watching videos on TH-cam then I came to this prep test and did pretty good. I love tech and always liked taking gadgets apart and fixing them so maybe that helps. Anyways looks like I will enjoy this journey to be an electrician.

    Are they still testing out of the 2017 codebook or did they switch over to the 2020 ? Because I have a friend that took it about two months ago and he said they were still testing out of the 2017.

    • @MasterTheNEC
      @MasterTheNEC  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure how to respond to that...every state is different so you need to check with YOUR state. For example, VA is 2017 NEC, and TX is 2020 NEC and so forth. There is no "one size fits all" as its again state specific.

    For the question about the max voltage on a Class 1 remote control and signalling circuit, I’m using the 2023 NEC. They made a new article for Class 1 (article 724). I can’t find the text for 600v. Am I missing something?

    • @MasterTheNEC
      @MasterTheNEC  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Have you reviewed 724.40 in 2023 NEC.

    • @SeanDay22
      @SeanDay22 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@MasterTheNECIm looking at it now. There is no text for the specific answer you gave. It goes into different formulas for finding the max voltage depending on requirements.

    • @MasterTheNEC
      @MasterTheNEC  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      724.40 reads "Class 1 Circuits. Class 1 circuits shall be supplied from a source with a rated output of not more than 30 volts and 1000 volt-amperes." So, I would say the conductors have to be at least 30 volts and I see nothing wrong with them being 600 volts for that matter. EDITED: See 724.49(B) as well for the Insulation ratings.

      @@MasterTheNEC 724.40 states NOT MORE than 30 volts
      Question ask WHATS THE MAXIMUM so wouldn’t 30 volts be the answer ?
      Really scratching my head on this one. ?

    • @MasterTheNEC
      @MasterTheNEC  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      So, have you never seen 600V rated cables being used on 120V applications? So, I would think any cable that is rated at least 30V and they all will be, will be acceptable cable ratings. In fact, most cables are 300V, 600V, 1000V rated in these realms. I think the issue is folks are looking for something that is not there to be found. In fact, easy solution is to look up a manufacturer that makes Class 1 Cables and look at their ratings. Encore Wire doesn't manufacturer those so I have nothing in our product line to review. What I can tell you is typically the manufacturers simply rate it 600V. EDIT: Also check out 724.49(B) as well for insulation ratings at 600V.

    What's the 2023 NEC answer to "The maximum voltage for a Class 1 remote control and signaling circuit is ____ V." Because it's not 600 Volts.

    • @MasterTheNEC
      @MasterTheNEC  3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Greetings- This was a significant change for the 2023 NEC. Class 1 power limited thresholds at 30V. If the Class 1 exceeds 30V, then it's treated just like any conductor in Chapters 1-4, so the insulation would be 600V. So basically, any Class 1 circuit exceeding 30 volts in the previous code is now in the 2023 a circuit covered by the rules in Chapters 1 through 4.
