"This is a service to Ashton - the next stop is Ashton Under Lyne where this service terminates"!! Come on TfGM, that's just poor! There are three 'Ashton's' in Gtr Manchester!!!
I still cannot understand why Metrolink decided to operate a service to such a small grotty town which has been stuck in a time warp for MANY years, but I suppose that stranger things have happened. It's nice to hear the passengers "cheer" as the tram LEAVES Ashton-under-Lyne.
Jake Welsh I always thought that Ashton-under-Lyne was already served by a good bus and train service?. It just baffles me as to why Ashton now has the Metrolink especially considering the fact that it's one of the smaller towns in Greater Manchester with a population of only 44,000 people.
Ashton is the 12th largest town/settlement in Greater Manchester (out of 65). It has IKEA, Snipe Retail Park, Ashton Moss Leisure Park and many other amenities. There’s plenty of reasons to improve transport links to Ashton.
Who says there are 3 ashtons in greater manchester first ive heard about that think you are mistaken
Ashton-under-Lyne (Tameside)
Ashton-on-Mersey (Trafford)
Ashton-in-Makerfield (Wigan)
@@64bignat Ashton-under-Lyne is the real ‘Ashton’. The others should only ever be called by their full names.

Because transport to the town needed improving and many people do use the service so it is well worth it.

Nathan Hulme there's a line to East Didsbury, which only has around 16000 people...
