I was curious about this since I just came off the Ruby Princess from Alaska yesterday. Some screens were already installed and had announcements on it that the Medallion was coming soon. Seems very cool and useful. I hope to get it on my next cruise. The location feature would probably be my favorite.
Myra, It was really awesome. I'm sure they have had some learning with it, but once it's on most ships they will have a better handle on it. Staff are still figuring it out as well.

Did you know that Gavin McLeod (Captain Stubing from the old 'Love Boat' TV show) will be doing renewal of vows ceremonies on Regal to help Princess set a new Guinness Book record for that category? The lady (then girl) who played his daughter will be the maid of honor.

We didn't get printed receipts or have to sign for purchases like before. I am not sure if you can request a receipt. You can still print off your account at kiosks near the pursers desk. I think you can also check your account on the app as well.
Just found out from Princess, that if you are in Australia you can't have the Medallion shipped to your address. You have to pick it up at the port. They need to have an app for Australia or advertise the fact. Have been checking every day waiting for the app to change.
Cool explanation! I have a concern about the Ocean Medallion. It's basically Big Brother. Whatever you do or purchase on board, wherever you go can be tracked. This can be collected and form big data. Big data can make improvements on a ship and also manipulate you in future purchases. It seems similar to Facebook's or Google ads algorythms. I will be trying the medallion out in a few days too.

How exciting. 9th of December is not that far away. Enjoy. You do not need access to the WiFi to use the apps, you just needed to be on the network. Also, a heads up, we are aware the apps have changed since we went on our cruise in July 2019. Have a great time on your vacation.
Crown, Golden and ruby are about to have it added. The ships that already have it are Royal, Regal, Carribean and Island. They are rolling it out over the next few years.
Will the app actually notify you like a text message when someone sends you a message or do you have to login/open the app to view them like on the older ships?

You don’t need the app to make the medallion work, but for some of the other features I think it’s best for each person to have the app. Also the app has changed a bit since we filmed this video.
Volume on computer (speakers) or other device as high as possible? I sometimes have to either raise or lower volume on computer. Depends on at what volume the video was recorded in my case.
Not hands free to leave the ship as you need to hold it to scanners, hands free for the cabin door though. Don't need to hold for scanners for the cabin door.
@@marksimmons7721 Just a note on this... The first time you visit room you have to "register" your medallion to the room using the mailbox/scanner pad. After that initial registration, the door automatically unlocks as you approach your room. You still have to turn the knob to open the door. Also, having the medallion on the wristband accessory may offer more convenience than the free lanyard.
Our family loved cruises until now! I have spent 30 hours trying to set up the madallion app ( it shoild be put where the sun don't shine!.) The cruises personalizer needs to be brought back and de coiupled from the aaaaaapp The medallion is probably ok but there ar is no real help avilable and evrything is now exremely vauge and uncertain about every step of the checkin process! Also there is no more "horrizon court"
...sorry but old fart here 71...they asked every time for a signature and cabin number anyway...was handy getting on and off in ports tho..but that’s it...makes a great magnet suvinere when you get home too...
Why on earth would I want everybody in my Party to know where I was at every given moment?...why would they need to know? so much for privacy or just wanting to be alone..
You don’t need the internet for the medallion to work. I’m not sure that the medallion is going to make you spend more money. Buying the internet is your choice.
It is hands free, we just held it up so you could see it. As you approach your room, your room unlocks. You don;t need to hold it up at all. Thanks for your comment.

Great video! What about adding a tip to drink orders? We do this a lot for our favorite bartenders and bars throughout the cruise.

Since we filmed this video they have changed the app situation. I think now it’s all done in the one app

My feeling is that there are too many -disconnected- apps. All of these could have been consolidated into the Medallion Class app.
Yes, I definitely agree with that. As they roll this out to more ships, I can imagine they will develop an app that does everything.
They just announced today, that they have combined a few of the apps together. So that's good news.

Only certain ships are medallion class, so it would depend on the cruise ship you are going on.
