I do apologize for the buzzing noise in the background. I did not realize how much noise my sous vide machine was making. My condenser mic was really trying to magnify it as well.
I have been using a laser thermometer for many years with my cast iron. It helps in making sure my iron is hot enough for what I'm cooking. I'm glad that you have recommend it to others. I have the braided cable thermometer, but it is used for cooking in the oven. Once it reaches the temp that I select, an alarm goes off.
I have an MK4... love it! I use it pretty much daily when doing inspections and calibrations of equipment at my job. I use the same MK4 at home for food safety because I’ve found it to be so good. I will consider the infrared gun I could use that for checking heating and AC ducts instead of the one I have.
The industrial one has the largest range and that is the one I went to work. There are other models that has less of a range and work perfectly as well.
Thank you for sharing. Just ordered MK4. I love reviewing cooking products on Americas Test Kitchen and they also gave this thermometer a top rating. Taking care of health.
One point I can add about food safety is what my old buddy said " Always remember that beef and poultry goes bad from the outside in, pork goes bad from the inside out". So if you're using your nose cut pork to check.
Some nice new equipment Stephen. We have problems sometimes in Canada getting those types of thermometers. Might be because they could also be used to make weapons. Not really sure. 😉🇨🇦.
Do you think the laser temperature device would work to measure oil temp? Looking to be able to regulate oil temperature without touching the cast iron our having my hand over the hot oil
Stephen, why have I not seen these new videos??? Anyways, my pops bought me a yellow Thermapen just like that red one. I love that thing. It doesn't have a model on it so not sure if it's Mk4 or not, but got it for me 2 or 3 years back. I think the display is more rectangle than yours so may be different model. They are great thermometers and so easy...
I usually just scrub with hot water and add a little bit of dish soap if needed. If it's really messy, I will use my little plastic Lodge scraper and maybe even some chainmail.
Long winded. Said water proof can drop in pot of soup. If drop it hot soup it may fail. Did not say why you should use the infared. You did not do any comparison.
More than anything else, these are products that I purchased myself and really like. I found them to be extremely useful and wanted to share my experience with them. I do not have the budget to do comparison videos. This particular video will probably only produce about 20% of my cost in return. The whole purpose for my channel is to share my love for cast iron and help others who love collecting, restoring and using cast iron cookware as well.

I believe I will still be using my braided thermometer too. It does do exactly what it's supposed to do for that particular purpose.

Cast Iron Cookware I like large ranges. Going to see what I’ve got in my equipment expense account- might be able to squeeze it in next quarter! 🤔

I've had the MK-4 a good while and would recommend it highly.I didn't know they made the infrared gun...must investigate...Thanks Steven.
The MK4 is awesome! They have different infrared guns some of those cheaper and some a little more expensive. I believe I will be using it very often.
I like the infrared they are invaluable for auto diagnosis.
I suppose there are many more uses other than my particular purpose.

That is very possible. When people are determined, things can be reconfigured for a totally different purpose.
What model is your thermo works gun in this video

That's the way I use it. It works great on reading the surface temperature with oil on it.
