    I really like the metal pallets you use for stacking lumber off the mill. Good cautionary tale about turning the cant, thanks for sharing. Enjoyed the video.

    That’s a lot of hardware in the ankle. Keep up with stretching strength work etc. I like the video. I worked at a sawmill and piled lumber in my youth 1970’s Ottawa allet

    This was a great video that many people don’t show. I have yet to do dimensional lumber as all my customers want live edge. One day this will be requested and I will be re-watching this for tips. Love the content and the flow of videos you have going on. Just like the old days.

    Great video...nice one. Does throwing water on increase the drying time?

    • @CanadianWoodworks
      @CanadianWoodworks  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, the water just reveals what the gain will look like with finish on it.

    I know that I am a bit of an Idiot, but why is White Oak SO much more Expen$ive than Red?
    They Both look Beautiful as far as I'm concerned.
    Cheers!

      Hi, White oak is in huge demand right now for interior flooring and trim work, it the #1 in demand species right now for flooring. Use furniture don't actually use much lumber compared to the flooring industry. Also to dry oak correctly is more difficult and longer so that adds to the cost as well.

      Also the pink / red undertone of red oak is just not as desirable right now.

    White oak is $12 a board foot for flat sawn dimensional? That's nuts. I can only imagine how much more quarter sawn white oak retails for.

      You are correct for the grade I just milled it would be less expensive and for sure depending where you are the price varies.

    How do you keep the straight edge straight during the drying?

    • @CanadianWoodworks
      @CanadianWoodworks  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If there is stress in the lumber it can bend or curve a bit, this is why drying process is important to minimize stresses that cause this.

      @@CanadianWoodworks I heard that cutting the trees at time of rest according to the moon calendar helps. There is an Austrian company that wrote a book about this. www.thoma.at

    What is the cost of black walnut per board foot?

    • @corylannon8546
      @corylannon8546 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends entirely on your location. Call a local/regional lumberyard and ask

    • @CanadianWoodworks
      @CanadianWoodworks  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, Walnut ranges from $12 to up wards of $60 a bdft!!! But "standard" dimensional 8/4 Walnut around here is around $14 a bdft

    Wow, that's over double what I pay here in my neck of the woods for white oak but, location, location, location right? 😂 Probably not the best topic to bring up these days but, how I envy your health coverage. Here in the states, the cost of private insurance has prevented me from taking a job I really wanted and also from venturing into a new field because there's no way to afford the cost. There's no telling how many times it has been the sole reason people didn't follow a dream or created a new business.
