Love how he graciously navigated through his life; I think he just got better and better as an actor and person. He was a real gem a solid mans man.

I was never a fan of Burt Reynolds, but Deliverance will always be in my Top 100 Movies of All Time.

Burt is 55 here & looks terrific! It was a “good time” for the Bandit once again. R.I.P. Mr. Reynolds.

I‘ve seen many of Burt’s interviews. He had always been honest and quite humble. Great sense of humour too

He was so great Evening Shade was one of my favorite shows. Him and Charles Durning were fantastic

It's too bad that at the time of this interview when things were really turning around for him, his marriage and therefore his finances and career were about to turn disastrous...sad for him.

Burt had a love hate relationship with the studios and when he was down they kicked him, unfortunately

Did him and Hal Needham fall out? He doesn't mention Hal by name, but he alludes to him somewhat dispargingly, while talking about why he turned down Terms of Endearment.

Maybe. The movie he did was Stroker Ace, a truly bad movie.

17:39. Burt has told this story many times but it's not true. Clint told us it wasn't true. Burt played Football for FSU in Florida from 1954 to 1957. Clint was dropped from his Universal Contract in 1955. Directors don't fire extra contract actors. Clint was working on Rawhide during the time of 1958 and Clint didn't even meet Burt until years later. Burt was working on the show Riverboat in 1959. They never got fired on the same day or got fired by Universal. This is what really happened. Clint didn't get his contract renewed. Universal terminated his contract on October 23, 1955. Burt didn't sign his first contract with Universal until 1958 because in 1955 he was still playing football in Florida. Burt stopped playing football in 1957 and persuaded a career as a Police Officer but moved onto acting. Clint was working and in 1958 joined Rawhide. Clint never met Burt until the 1960s. These are the facts. I would bet anyone $10,000 that this never happened. I know. In fact, Burt signed a seven-year contract with Universal in 1958. And Burt once said. "I always tell the story that we were fired the same day, but we weren't." We worked with Clint for a week and got it from the source. Another clue that this story is BS is they did not have their names painted for parking spots back in those days when you're not a star in a series. FACT. Clint said he was just trying to make a joke

@@tomortale2333 Tom, he was 5'11 without his boots. Why he was insecure about that height, one will never know. The boots put him over 6 ft and that made him feel better. So be it.

@TELEVISIONARCHIVES Revisiting this interview, per the caller, who was a tour guide at Universal (and who met Burt there) it would appear his story just might be more credible than yours regarding Burt's time there. Just a thought...

Burt’s career didn’t come back until 1997, though, with Boogie Nights. 1991 sucked.

But there was no comparison. When Burt was No. 1 there were Eastwood, McQueen, Newman, Redford, Bronson, Pacino, de Niro, Stallone, Nicholson etc. A completely and much tougher competition.
