It never was, the murder rate overtook New York for one February (when NY was snowed in, nobody was going out and nothing was moving) in 2018, all the rest of the time New York has nearly double the murder rate.
I'm loving your, "Back to London" series... it also feels like it's, Jess is back! I've been following your videos since 2017, when I used your Oyster card video and a few others, to guide me through my first trip to London 4 years ago now. It really looks like you have it down packed. You're making these really informative, great to see, and fun to listen too! It really feels like we have a friend in London! So new flat, new series, and new Jess? I'll leave that to you! Wonderful job!
You’ll see. A couple of days and you’ll wonder what the fuss was about. We Brits have that in reverse every time we go on vacation. France is only half an hour away, so one has to adapt. Or die !
The last question always amazes me about the rain. I live in Essex and we haven't had any rain for a month now. I even had to top up my fish pond in my garden with the hose because the poor fish where short of swimming space. The weather question stuns me all the time.
London will always be my hometown no matter where I live. I do miss the walking and excellent transportation system though. In Houston, we drive everywhere.
8:50 I spent over 5 years in London and really missed the rain to be honest 😅 For instance in Rome, rains 43% more overall in a year compare to London.
I like London’s work ethic, NHS, and their culture. Wish they have this in America, especially in California. It’s worse than NY. NY is 24 hours so they can spread out their time. But CA wants us to put everything in at short hours for they close early and no weekends. I miss NY.
Love watching your videos. Came across you when I first moved to London to know more about where to go, what to do and basically to educate myself about the city. And its been 3yrs and still a follower of you. Also, kinda following your footsteps of exploring and showing the city ❤️
Speaking as someone who has always lived in ground floor flats with gardens, yes, you do get mice and rats in the houses, and you can see them on tubes and streets. It's not like an infestation, but they do exist and you will likely see them if you live on ground floors. Unfortunately, I have also had quite a lot of damp issues in the places I lived in, and I know many others who have as well, so it's actually quite common 😊 happy that you never had to deal with none of the issues 🙈🙈
Live in zone 2 and moving to zone 3. Areas are very well-connected and easy to get around-- just as much as when I used to lived in Zone 1. It just depends where in those Zones you live.
Most suburbs north of the Thames have a tube station, so travelling into central London is easy. South of the Thames you mostly rely on the overground railway, which is not as reliable or frequent. Buses are generally good, provided you know where you want to go. But can be very slow during rush hour.
When I moved into London in 2017 one of the first things i bought was an umbrella, as it was supposedly known for being so rainy. I don't remember having used it AT ALL when i was there for three years :P either I never left my building when it was raining or I never felt like I had to carry it. Probably most silly showers caught me when i was indoors. Not saying it doesn't rain, but BIGGEST myth ever
Movies and shows have portrayed East London as a scary and dangerous place. It may have been in the 1900s, but that is so far from the truth these days. Yes, there are some sketchy places that you should avoid, but you can say that for the West too. We have lived in East London for 3 years now and we love it here!
Statistically the poorest areas (Tower Hamlets) and the highest crime areas (Hackney) are in East London, but there are nice areas too. You just need to be a bit more cautious than in North and West London, which are generally more well to do areas.
I will never have the chance to move to London/UK even though I would desperately love to. But I have a friend in Australia who is moving there on one of the youth visas later this year! She's so excited!
@@adkh5826 Oh believe me, I so wish I could. If I could do college years over again I wouldn't hesitate. However, I'm too old now. BUT my daughter, who will be graduating high school in a year, plans to do a semester abroad (at least) in London, and I have a feeling I will have an "extended" visit while she's there. :)
Well, working in an advertising agency you have those crazy working hours, late till 3am, weekends etc. Leads to burnout which is why I’m happy to not work there any more 😊 Depending on where you are in Zones 2 and 3 your travel connections can be quite good. Greenwich for instance has a direct train to St Pancras (Paris), a train to Cannon Street to get on the tube to the Barbican or the V&A, North Greenwich for the tube to Canary Wharf and Bond Street. City Airport is not too far.
I have an odd assumption that is actually true. You know how in the US people tend to excuse themselves from a conversation when we need to go do something. British people (at least almost every one I know) for some reason don't do it. They just wander off, and when they return don't really acknowledge having left. I refer to this as 'Brexit'. It's a habit of people from all over the UK, not just the London area. I've even known a few Irish and Scottish people to do it. The funny part is, they all know they do it, but none of them really know why. Like, it's not a conscious thing.
For all the Indians out there, East London, especially places like East ham, Ilford etc gets you the most Indian stores as well as Indian communities, temples and such.. Try to avoid flat shares though - you get lots of illegal flat shares here as well
Thanks Sree! There are many legal flat shares out there, you can avoid the legal ones by going through agencies and making sure that there is all of the relevant contracts and paperworks signed and provided. But you're right, avoid ones that aren't legal!
