It’s always interesting hearing about what’s right and wrong about Lego cars. I’m not a car guy, so this looked fine, but when you pointed out the canopy I was like “Oh? It’s a bit wonky but what’s the prob- OH!”
I just built this set today, and I must concur, like most of the Speed Champion sets, the build experience is excellent. I love all the tricks and techniques the designers employ to try and capture the essence of each car's shape and features. Like others, I too wish they had more rounded pieces to better capture some of the more complex curves of the real cars, but they've come along way, and I'm happy to see them continuously adding to the palette. Anyway, I noticed the discrepancy with the windshield as well, but it didn't bother me as much as it seems to bother others. I'm more annoyed that they weren't able to recreate the sculpted line from behind the front fender to the aft fender above the big intake. You have to kinda imagine it's there. Alas, it's LEGO, and I am quite familiar with its weaknesses along with its strengths. All things being equal, this is a really well executed model of the Evija at this scale. Thanks for the review, Jang, and a tip 'o the hat to the designers at LEGO for keeping this great line interesting and fun.
Fantastic review. I think my own personal "fix," for the canopy print may be to source a second sticker sheet (or two) and trying to create a greater suggestion of the shoulder/base on the canopy below the line. The long bottom sticker on the side of the car may be a good candidate given its length. May be easier in my head than in practice, but may be worth a go.
I recommend misting the back of the sticker with window cleaner. Let's you fine tune the placement, slide it around until you are happy. LEGO even recommends this technique on their website, I believe.
I remember seeing the leeks and was very impressed with this car until I saw the shoulder line. Now I cannot unsee it. I don't know, I may just wait for a die-cast version of this car. Love the color.
I got to build this guy yesterday, I was blown away. Speed Champions is my favorite small theme from Lego, I have built a ton of them and this was my favorite build so far. Didn't know anything about this call honestly, but loved the build and it looks beautiful.
Weirdly, the canopy doesn't bug me that much. The different angle of the bottom makes me view it as opaque rather than translucent, it doesn't work at all from direct side view, but from the 45°ish that I display them will hopefully look ok in person. That black interior helps a lot I think
I have this set waiting for me at home right now! Glad to hear it's an exciting build, I can't wait! That canopy print is baffling but not a deal breaker for me.
I think the issue with the 8 wide SC cars is the wheels always look too small. The rear quarter looks far too slab sided on most super cars which just highlights how bad the rear quarter can look.
Thank god that rear window was a print, you have 6 different surfaces that a sticker would have go on cleanly, or worse lining up 6 different stickers to all match up. That said, can't wait for these to hit the 20% off mark, so I can pick up the entire set this year. Last year's Speed Champions I wasn't really feeling all the sets, specifically the Dodge one, but this year's sets perfect.
The yellow line on the windshield should definitely have been a sticker, I’m sure everyone wouldn’t mind applying the sticker themselves in order for it to look good.
I love this set as we're getting more British representation in 8-Stud glory, the angles and techniques used in the build are mind bending and top notch speed champions as a line/theme is the gift that keeps on giving the quality overall of the builds and level of graphic and print work is some of the best i've seen such clean and crisp lines and angles are achieved i have to buy this when it releases and will build it soon and enjoy it. I believe you are being unreasonable as it is a LEGO Set at the end of the day I don't think it would have been possible/warranted a dual mould for the Lotus canopy as i can except and forgive the build because of it everything else is 10 it's not a deal breaker by any means.
I'm planning to pick this up to go with the Ferrari F8 that I own. The windscreen printing is disappointing, but not a deal-breaker IMO. Thanks for the review!
This set is really well designed in my opinion with it’s many clever use of pieces and building techniques. The stickers were definitely justified here and I love the new headlight piece they introduced this year, which will definitely improve future Speed Champions cars even more. But it does have it’s flaws that are mainly caused by the limitations of Lego pieces as we know of today like that front windshield print being really off and the taillights being mostly unrecognizable in this set due to it’s weird and organic shape.
They definitely need new canopy models, the speed champion series would improve a tonnn. Maybe even some new flat pieces to cover studs for cleaner look and real but tiny air ducts.
I really can't wait to see the Lamborghini review for this wave so I can see Jangs opinion. Managed to get the set about 2 weeks early because a screw up from my local Walmart, and it's absolutely beautiful.
I probably wouldn't have noticed the design flaw with the printing if you hadn't pointed it out as I'm not familiar with the real car, but I agree with you and would have liked it to be lower. I would have been fine with the line just being up to the edge of that panel, even if that left a transparent sliver on the adjacent panel below. There is enough black behind that it looks sufficiently dark to be believable.
With this being the second one so far this wave that really needed decals on the sides of the windshield and the amount of stickers in speed champion sets, I'm not sure why they don't just put stickers there.
I do love the look of this build but it is incredibly fragile, the fragility of the front is crazy. It took me a little while to put the front together after taking it apart 😭
Couldn't agree more about the build experience. I think it's my favorite Speed Champions build process to date. I was giddy smiling at almost every step. Personally I'm able to get past the windshield print issue from a distance just because the trans black, black, and dark green are all such dark colors that it can blend away. Up close, it's much rougher. I wonder if they considered applying a long thin sticker to the sides of the windshield. The lower flat part seems like a perfect sticker surface to me, and bringing the yellow line down there would be much more ideal.
I’m not a car guy, I know almost nothing about them and don’t follow in the circles around luxury sports cars. That said, I own 10 speed champions cars. The builds are so good with so many little pieces used in such brilliant ways. This one is my favorite by far.
I really love the line up for the 2022 speed champion sets though I hope they add in a Porsche or two next time around since we don’t have an 8-wide Porsche set yet.
Their latest car the emira has an AMG engine option, but I think they said it'll be one of their last petrol cars they make. The evija is already an electric
I don't know if it's because of the windshield or something else but I just can't identify the model with the source material. Same goes for the AMG Project one, although it's better imo. They seriously need to use some more curvy pieces mainly for the windshield and back roof parts. Funnily enough the F1 car looks the most recognizable, seriously looks like the 2021 version.
Thank u for review Jang, again! Indeed, very strange Printing Error: They could print green on that rear top part, but not on the front dome part? And the yellow stripe not right on the edge? Arrg - and this calls premium products? If printing flop, hopefully they dual-,triple-,n-molded in the future.
That canopy honestly takes this set from "I want it" to "I will never buy it" for me, so it's a pretty big swing for one piece. I would have liked to see Jang put on a regular canopy piece to see how it looks. It can't be any worse and potentially it could make it a "I might just buy this" set.
I really wanted this set (honestly all of the new speed champions) I still want it, but yeah that window print is horrible..it's begging for a custom paint job to fill in that gap. I can't wait for the Countach review as that's the main one I wanted most from this set.
Yeah, I dont like to have huge cars in my city. I still build my small cars 4-studs-wide and bigger ones like busses or trucks 6 studs wide. Everything bigger looks weird imo.
Hi guys, Could I please ask which you would suggest to start with out of the Lotus Evija and the Ferrari F8? Looking for a relatively simple build for an older adult, who very much enjoys lego, but gets a bit too overwhelmed with the bigger sets. Any feedback would be much appreciated! :)
I bought this set because of the earth green pieces so I could make a ninjago golden dragon 10 year anniversary moc. I usually build the sets I buy first before I use them for pieces, and I thought about buying another one because I didn’t want to take it apart 😂
I’m torn. The build itself is great and result in an awesome car and then I remember it supposed to be an Evija and it simply doesn’t work. Modern supercar design is so refined this days, it’s pretty much an impossible task for Lego, particularly in a small size. And the Evija is probably one of the worst to attempt, it’s pretty much only curves.
This is an incredible car but not my favorite of the wave, it has to be the Countach and I licked that up yesterday so really happy about that, but Idk if I’ll pick this one..maybe, maybe not
Why couldn't they have simply made that windshield print a sticker instead? At least that way if you wanted to you could use the window on some other build but as it is right now, with that stripe going down the middle, no one's going to want to use it on anything else
I have no interest in Speed Champions, but had to pick this one up. Looking at the build took me right back to playing Lotus II: RECS on the Mega Drive as a little kid.
That back panel printing is great! But lego really needs to make a new dome canopy piece, so many cars having to stretch and use that sharp angled canopy one and is just ruining so many current models, when they could have made a better one and used it on so many models by now. That front headlight piece is awesome, but not for this car, i mean the original car has narrower front wheel cover, and this really just doesnt capture the wide hood of the original. Such obvious fail
Just like the Koenigsegg that canopy piece is the one thing letting the entire car down. It's so frustrating when everything else is so good. The printing is bad, but the shape is also way off. I really don't understand how they could not come up with a better shape when they did one specifically for modern sports cars. They desperately need one without all those strange sharp edges. Just look at that picture of the real car, the canopy is completely smooth and rounded. Oh well, guess we have to wait a few more iterations for that. Great review as always though. Thanks!
Plese bring more printed peaces 19 stickers is faar too menny. Building this car now and holy hell placeing those stickers was a NIGHTMERE to place. Other then that an that a realy enjoyeble build that ends in a realy cool display pece.
I hadn't seen the original car before, and I don't much care, so I think the set overall looks excellent including that print. I understand why automobile fanatics would consider it a dealbreaker, though.
Servus JB, I can tell you why the yellow stripe isn't curved like the original, it's straight.....it's cheaper, quite simply cheaper, right now you should pay attention to the costs, right? ? Otherwise again a good video, with plenty of information, keep it up!
It’s always interesting hearing about what’s right and wrong about Lego cars. I’m not a car guy, so this looked fine, but when you pointed out the canopy I was like “Oh? It’s a bit wonky but what’s the prob- OH!”

These just keep getting better and better with each wave! I really hope they do an 8 wide Ferrari F40
The steering wheel lines up properly like with the McLaren Elva. That's enough of a reason for me to love it.
every new wave of speed champions gets better than the one before. i def think speed champions is one of the most underrated themes rn.
Good car. The snowboard for a spoiler is NPU.
Dark Green 1 x 2 tiles are back on the menu!!!
I think they've only ever been in one set before so I'm thrilled to see them again
I like this. Like usual, the only complaint is the large sticker sheet since I suck at placing stickers. Will still buy.
I recommend misting the back of the sticker with window cleaner. Let's you fine tune the placement, slide it around until you are happy. LEGO even recommends this technique on their website, I believe.

Yeah the print with the lines and Lotus print on the rear window, is just explisitly good 💚💛
That's a Lovely parts set of Dark Green pieces!

This set looks amazing! The shape of it is just incredible!
I love that rear end 😍
It is hard for a lego set to fully capture all the car's details. But as a lego car, it is really, really nice.
I don't think the wheels look too small, if anything they looked too big and cartoony on the 6-wide cars in my eyes.

Just a shame about the window

Like the color scheme of this one.
I really can't wait to see the Lamborghini review for this wave so I can see Jangs opinion. Managed to get the set about 2 weeks early because a screw up from my local Walmart, and it's absolutely beautiful.
Same here!

Oooo looking forward to these
Picked up this and the countach. Both are incredible
This feels like something where multicolor printing could have really saved the day. Glad to hear the build is so good through.
The rear quarter is quite blocky but I love the front!
The canopy print problem could've easily been avoided by simply not having that livery and being a single colour.
I can already see MOC builders making the Lamborghini Gallardo lights from the light pieces
Love that green 😍😍😍😍😍😍
With this being the second one so far this wave that really needed decals on the sides of the windshield and the amount of stickers in speed champion sets, I'm not sure why they don't just put stickers there.

It really is a good print on that back eondshield
_"Swoopy"_ is probably my new favorite word. 😂
The canopy doesn’t bug me too much, but I am tempted to tape it off and airbrush the bottom part with that green.
I really love the line up for the 2022 speed champion sets though I hope they add in a Porsche or two next time around since we don’t have an 8-wide Porsche set yet.
Lotus - The best use of a Toyota engine
Their latest car the emira has an AMG engine option, but I think they said it'll be one of their last petrol cars they make. The evija is already an electric
I can see it, but I'm not bothered by it. It's weird, but it works well enough for LEGO, in my eyes :D
Can’t wait to see the Lamborghini
even comes in the old URC colors!
I’m going to get this set as a car for the Joker and my other Batman villains
Still think the 8 stud wide cars were the right move. The quality was already good and they just got better.
I love this car I just really want a 8 wide laferarri
Looks pretty nice, might grab one.
Try getting some model paint. Paint the window under the yellow line green.
I think it’s the first 8 wide that doesn’t have wing mirrors 😬
Can we see some of the duel packs? I love the look of those lime green cars!
if i could i would remove the print and put it back on and it would better
I love this so much
Thanks Jang. Gotta say I wasn’t as interested in this one as the Lamborghini and Ferrari, but you have me interested.
Looks really good as long as you keep it on a low shelf where you don't see it up close from the side 😅
Getting this together with an unprinted canopy from Bricklink.
What a car
Lotus: lots of trouble, usually serious. This time that applies to the printing apparently.
Can you try it with a clear windshield piece? I really can't see the shape of the car because of the bad print.
That cockpit piece would have been far better off left completely blank imho. What the hell. 🤣
It's a nice set, but I've had to limit myself to cars I really like. Why didn't they add a label to fix the side view?
As soon as I read the title I knew what you were going to talk about. I hate that print too cause to me it just breaks the seamlessness of the design
All that dark green is heavenly for military moc builders like me lol
This and the older 6-stud wide Ford Mustang appeal to me because of the dark green color.
Please review the F1 car and AMG project one asap
Just built it. I like it. But I think some design accents are off
they should have done no print on the canopy piece
That canopy honestly takes this set from "I want it" to "I will never buy it" for me, so it's a pretty big swing for one piece. I would have liked to see Jang put on a regular canopy piece to see how it looks. It can't be any worse and potentially it could make it a "I might just buy this" set.
My local Lego store sold out of the entire wave in a day... except for this set. I guess the print is a deal breaker for a lot of people!
I really wanted this set (honestly all of the new speed champions) I still want it, but yeah that window print is horrible..it's begging for a custom paint job to fill in that gap. I can't wait for the Countach review as that's the main one I wanted most from this set.
I’ve been very confused with when the 8 wide cars started. Was it this year or last year?
these are beautiful but being 8 wide they feel a bit too big for the minifigure scale, to be put in a Lego city the 6 wide fit better.
Yeah, I dont like to have huge cars in my city. I still build my small cars 4-studs-wide and bigger ones like busses or trucks 6 studs wide. Everything bigger looks weird imo.
That problem exists only because of the weird proportions of lego minifigs imo
Hi guys,
Could I please ask which you would suggest to start with out of the Lotus Evija and the Ferrari F8? Looking for a relatively simple build for an older adult, who very much enjoys lego, but gets a bit too overwhelmed with the bigger sets.
Any feedback would be much appreciated! :)
This build is exquisite! Love that green
I don't even buy Lego cars, but now I"m tempted. This is my color...
Hello
I kinda wish the front headlight corner slopes weren’t printed. They would’ve been so useful without the print
I bought this set because of the earth green pieces so I could make a ninjago golden dragon 10 year anniversary moc. I usually build the sets I buy first before I use them for pieces, and I thought about buying another one because I didn’t want to take it apart 😂
I will buy this
These are the kind of Speed Champions I like. I’m not a big fan of the classic, drag, or F1 cars.
I’m torn. The build itself is great and result in an awesome car and then I remember it supposed to be an Evija and it simply doesn’t work. Modern supercar design is so refined this days, it’s pretty much an impossible task for Lego, particularly in a small size. This is an incredible car but not my favorite of the wave, it has to be the Countach and I licked that up yesterday so really happy about that, but Idk if I’ll pick this one..maybe, maybe not
Would you have been annoyed if they'd printed green under the yellow stripe?
Why couldn't they have simply made that windshield print a sticker instead? At least that way if you wanted to you could use the window on some other build but as it is right now, with that stripe going down the middle, no one's going to want to use it on anything else
This one would be better in yellow
So it's 30+ for us :D
I have no interest in Speed Champions, but had to pick this one up. Looking at the build took me right back to playing Lotus II: RECS on the Mega Drive as a little kid.
Does anyone else have the problem of the figure barely fitting in under the canopy?
It is annoying but I really do think we're so spoiled with SC at this stage. Thier miniature creator for me, simply love them.
The mini figure kinda looks like ninjago's jay
Just like the Koenigsegg that canopy piece is the one thing letting the entire car down. It's so frustrating when everything else is so good. The printing is bad, but the shape is also way off. Even the Koenigsegg looks better than this, that print is atrocious!

I still think the 8 stud wide cars are way too big tbh
Servus JB, I can tell you why the yellow stripe isn't curved like the original, it's straight.....it's cheaper, quite simply cheaper, right now you should pay attention to the costs, right? ? Otherwise again a good video, with plenty of information, keep it up!
