What a beautiful sight holding the dove. 25 years later, she celebrated her 50th anniversary at the Liceu. María de Montserrat Bibiana Concepción Caballé i Folch died at the age of 85 in 2018. Bravissima!

@@judyjones2475 , yes i was really shocked when she had finiished last scene of Salome ( pkease take a look in a private video from NY with Zubin Mehta in 1977 on the same Strauss moment!) she causes a pandemonium ! Another magic moment was the duetto of Otello with José Carreras !! It was a magic night of tribute to an exceptional woman !!!

There is an interview about that; Montserrat told:" Maria, do you think I can now sing Norma ? _ Yes, why not, with much work ...". And she laughed.

I always loved Monserrat Caballe. Callas was a better actress, but her vocal equipment and technique could never match Caballe's. No one could float a pianissimo like Caballe. Some of my most memorable nights at the Met were spent listening to Montserrat.
@@brunopicaude3092 True, but Callas also went flat and sharp and often had a wide wobble in her top notes. Montserrat did not have those imperfections. I'm just not a huge Callas fan, although I can see why people liked her voice was in good shape.
Callas mentored Caballe. She is the one who convinced her to sing Norma and so on. They loved each other and had tremendous respect towards each other!
