    I managed my 360 mile round trip last Friday to Devon in horrible weather, rain and five or six degrees. I dialled back the speed and got about 170 miles range. Stopped an hour each way at 22 kw chargers, thanks Exeter Sainsbury's. Pleased your Zoe is proving a good purchase. Off to Brighton today, 120 miles round trip and will probably have sixty miles range left when I get home. Keep up the excellent videos.

    Thank-you Ian. You're making it increasingly difficult to decide between the Zöe and a Leaf for our next car! ;-)

    Great video Ian! Always fun to watch when you cut it close, and boy those roads, seems like the road tax did reach there yet! There seems to be alot chargers on free vend theses days is this the new norm? Also did Amy stylize your side mirrors? Cheers!

    Ian, the Ecotricity chargers do not seem to display output current when charging from AC for some reason, noticed this when I used a AC connector once when all the CCS chargers were not working and so I used the AC connector on the i3 but the i3 is limited to only 11kwh I believe on type 2. Still it got me a few miles while we had a short food break etc.

    The Zoe 2 will be revealed in early 2019 at Frankfort, it will have an impressive 600 km range. But I am waiting to see Dacia's EV in 2022, they should use the same engine as Renault but will be more affordable. I think in 2022 Dacia and Renault will use the new Solid State Batteries, theoretically they can recharge at 80% in one minute and will have more density. Also the price of a battery is dropping of 20% per year, currently it cost around 220 euros per kW (and 1000 euros per kW in 2010) so 41kw*220 = 9000 euros for the price of the battery in the Zoe and it should cost only 7200 euros in 2019 and 5760 in 2020 (in 2020 we should have the first Solid State Batteries in cars).

      Solid state will be awesome, I am just waiting for the 500 miler car and then the 1000 miler (and more?!), a bit like computer storage...can get 256gb on a micro SD currently for hardly any money.

    • @danylbekhoucha6180
      @danylbekhoucha6180 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes this is why we can now get a 500 Gb SSD affordable that doesn't require to pair it with an HDD, even in a small office PC we can get a 250 Gb without HDD and keep the price low.
      You can either increase the range by 20 % per year for the same price or keep the same range and decrease the price by 20 % (not the total price, but the ~10k of the batteries, that is still a lot of money saved) or keep the same price but improve the design, interior, accessories, size of the car. Or like the Zoe 2 you can wait multiple years and do both increasing the range and the design, size and design at the same time for the same price.
      For me EV will start to become popular in 2022 with the Dacia EVs, they are expected under 15k euros (I imagine them with 400 km range for the base model) so at the price of the Clio which is the most sold car in France but with almost nothing to pay to travel and maintain it. Also the Clio with automatic gear shift cost more while the EVs will cost the price of the manual version (because there is just one speed) and at the same time the driving license on an automatic car will become popular (cost less, much easier to get) so there will be the only new cars to buy for new drivers.
      In 2025 this should be the date of the transition because new EV cars should be at the same price as new gasoline cars but at this time gasoline's price will increase a lot, in France the price gets higher by 10 cents per year per liter so there will be absolutely no point of choosing gasoline at more than 2 euros per liter (and one year before in 2024 they will be banned from big cities like Paris). And of course in 2025 the recharge rate and recharge stations will have progressed a lot. I know that's a lot of numbers in my posts, but the numbers are the things that matters to adopt them, so I think 2025 will be the year when ICE cars will die, this is only 7 years from today.

      My next car will be Dacia EV, I hope in 2022. Now I have a Dacia Sandero, simple, but very good and reliable.
      Renault is doing a good job.

    Wow Ian, even with your new Zoe, you’re much braver than me with my Leaf! I get nervous right along with you the way you sometimes get your range down to hardly anything. Even though you don’t have your Leaf anymore, I still enjoy your videos...looking forward to the next one.

    I believe if the road is unamed this happens a lot with new builds and I saw what appears to be new built house's then it is the responsibility of the owners of the house's to keep the road up together. No guessing that they are not doing this as it is prohibitively expensive. Always check who is responsible for the road on a new build street before you buy .

    Lead times on a Zoe is October November time at my local dealership. The top of the range Zoe costs as much as the new Leaf. Does not have pro pilot or one pedal driving. While rapid gate is an issue even when throttled back the leaf charges at 22 killowatt which is what the stock Zoe charges at on maximum charge. Things to think about. I did find the Zoe seats more comfortable than my Techna leaf seats 30 killowatt version. The Zoe was a nice drive as well good turning circle great for town driving. I like the space in the leaf. For me the Zoe needs to be cheaper .

    I have just discovered that to gain mileage when going down a hill and the regen is too strong and slowing the car down too much, I can select neutral till I need to slow down again. It is probably illegal to ride in neutral and I assume in the Zoe it just disconnects the motor electrically. Any kind comments would be welcome.

    • @fetchstixRHD
      @fetchstixRHD 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't think it's been illegal (at least it doesn't seem to be for manual ICE cars from the Highway Code wording), it's just discouraged because there's "less control" (again at least in ICE cars, not sure whether the same applies in electric motor cars)

    Good to see you're still enjoying your Zoe. Just FYI you should remove the "good customer service" bit about Ben Powell from Renault Gloucester. I also got a Zoe after reading about your deal, delivered in March - it's been back at the dealership for most of the time since and Ben doesn't speak to me, hasn't in well over a month. I received appalling customer service from the dealership which is a great shame as I loved the car when it worked.
    They are currently refusing my vehicle rejection, so not great assurance if something does go wrong with yours!
    Good luck and appreciated the helpful videos, while relavent ;)

    Hi Ian
    I'm a bit of a ludite and don't know how to join forums (which is what Gloucester Renault suggest I do to contact you!) but I'm wanting to pick your brains about getting a second hand Zoe - would you be able to help me? If so, how should I best contact you?

    • @IanSampsonRLO
      @IanSampsonRLO  6 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @katedougherty582

      I'm wanting to buy a red or blue second hand zoe - either dynamique or signature. I'm struggling to find one on eBay or auto trader and prefer private sales anyway. Do you have any other suggestions where I could look (or know anyone)? I really want the new model with the much better range but it looks like I'll need to wait a year or two till they start coming onto the second hand market. Do you think the earlier models will then plummet in value?

    • @IanSampsonRLO
      @IanSampsonRLO  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think you will have to wait yes, as the demand is not meeting supply currently, and wait lists are 9 months now. Older models are holding their value due to this as well!

  • @MrKeke2502
    @MrKeke2502 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    It's a bit cumbersome, but you can effectively calculate what is the charging rate by taking the amount of electricity put in your car, divided by the time it has charged and times 60 for an hour
    Example : @4:56 you gained 16.3kW in 26min.
    16.3/26 = 0.63
    0.63x60 = 37.8
    So the car charge at an average of 37.8Kw for the all session
    Note that, this number is not 100% accurate because the display on the charger doesn't update often enough, so you should take the numbers right at the moment when a minute pass to be the most accurate. Also, this number doesn't take into account the charging loss, Zoe being at around 89% percent efficiency I think
    Take a look at that : pushevs.com/2016/12/17/renault-zoe-charging-time-efficiency/

    • @MrKeke2502
      @MrKeke2502 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      rectification : This article I linked may be completely incorrect.
      I'll update if I find someone who correctly measured Zoe on-board charger efficiency
