  • The manga recommendation corner returns with a look at my favorite current romcom, Boku no Kokoro no Yabai Yatsu (The Dangers in My Heart). It's that rare Enzo favorite that's actually extremely popular - and once it gets an anime, probably a blockbuster.

Yeah, it really looks to be on point. The pedigree is the key - look at who's adapting it.

I am so happy you featured this-BokuYaba is one of my favorite manga! I love how the mangaka portrayed so well the awkwardness of navigating hormones and emotions in middle school, but in a funny and heartwarming way. It would be really nice to see an anime. This is the first time I've fallen in love with a manga that is recent and doesn't have an anime adaptation yet (I'm still quite new the manga world); it makes me happy to root for the series and see it succeed!

Soon, hopefully. I'm not at the point yet where I'm surprised it hasn't happened, but that point isn't too far off.

You know how people call a movie like Tremors perfect? It’s not a cinematic masterpiece, but it’s not trying to be one, it wants to be a good b monster movie. The movie did exactly what it wanted too.
Bokuyaba is like that to me, it’s the perfect manga. Sure it’s not a profound classic, but it sets out exactly what it wants to do. There’s so many subtleties to it and the writing is just so well done. There’s very few mangaka that I think being actual, critical literary talent to the table, but Norio did it. Funny when you consider her raunchy comedy roots, but turns out she’s actually just fantastic.

An absolutely wonderful comment, and I agree 100%. Only thing I'd caveat is to say I think BokuYaba is sort of profound, because it captures the experience of being 14 so accurately and believably.

I'm happy someone else than me is promoting this great manga (and yo do it waaaay better that me). I've been following BokuYaba since summer 2019 and I agree that it's one of the very best (JHS) romcom series at the moment. I'm convinced this manga will get quite popular in the west too when it comes out as an anime.

I agree, I think it's going to be a monster hit when it gets an anime. That said, while I'm not yet at the stage where I worry that it hasn't happened, the longer we go without one the more possible it becomes that we won't get one. Anime has surprised me before with dumb decision-making like that.

@@lostinanimedotcom So the anime became now a great hit, but curiously not many people seem to talk about the manga outside of scanlation sites and if they do, they seem usually to prefer the anime, but hey, at least the manga got even more attention than ever before. I just with BokuYaba would be mentioned more often in all these hundreds of manga haul videos.

I feel this is the point where Norio really comes into her own. The art, while not bad in the start per-se, becomes tremendously better after some chapters and I think this kind of story suits her really well. May 2022 and no anime yet, though.

Yeah, Im really starting to worry now. I thought it was a lock but the longer we go without one, the worse the chances get.

    Seiyu for Yamada??

Man, I haven't even thought that much about it. I think Ishi is actually a much tougher call. Obviously I'd be praying for no Kaji Yuuki...
      Got any suggestions for Yamada?
