This manga is a hidden gem. I wish more people read it.

The answer is super simple and it's because the the deep, complex writing, for the characters, the themes, the dialogue, symbolism, plot, etc. It's all masterclass to a point never seen before.

Great video. I’ve been reading The Bugle Call almost since it started, and I think it could be pretty big in the West if it ever gets picked up for an official translation and/or gets an anime. The dark fantasy setting is reminiscent of Berserk, Claymore, and Attack on Titan, and I could see it appealing to the same type of audience.

New here. Instant subbed. Found a treasure trove of great manga thanks to this. I would love to hear about chainsawman part 2 from you guys. Gonna read a lot of these mangas post exams. Thanks Happy new year guys. Looking forward to more❤

hilarious take on NisioIsin from Enzo (that I agree with)

Too bad that neither of you is fond of Undead Unluck, the series is far more unique take on battle shonen formula with lots of unexpected twist and turns that work, it improved significantly from the beginning. After leadership change of the magazine it did got told to wrap up faster, which is a shame, another 50 chapters would have been perfect.

Never saw the original Aquarion, but I loved Aquarion Evol for how hilariously bonkers it was. In a way, it played like Darling in the Franxx, except except Evol came first and did it better. One of the better Mari Okada shows. Aquarion Logos had a different writer. It left me cold, and I ended up dropping it after 6 episodes.

Also will you be covering Beastars? I just found out they dropped the final season

Theres only really Kusuriya & Sakamoto Days that stands out to me this season, but I guess this gives me a chance to catch up on Jibaku Shonen!

I agree with you in general. So many shows, so many isekais. Besides Apothecary Diaries S2, there's nothing that gets me super excited. Some of your picks I'll watch out of curiosity.

I'm a college student that just pulled an all nighter before a test to read this manga and last night at 4 am I was a slobbering mess of a human and just absolutely balled my eyes out towards the ending. And listening to you talk about the draw panel made me do it all again. The way you put it makes me so full of emotion, thank you for making this commentary for me to listen to. Ive never cried so much from a piece of media, the last I can remember being when I watched Violet ever garden when I was like 15 or something. Even punpun didn't make me this emotional, I think this manga is truly a work of art

I'm with you on preferring Isao Takahata. The Tale of Princess Kaguya is my favorite anime and Only Yesterday is fantastic

this popped into my recommended feed right as i was about to wash dishes and i thought “eh, why not.” i truly wasn’t expecting such a thoughtful conversation! i love punpun, but a lot of time coverage of it only reaches the depths of “it’s super depressing” or pointing to the most grody events and saying “woah!”this went way more interesting places in terms of discussion- for example, when the two of you had a respectful disagreement about if the manga was sometimes excessive in its trauma p*rn. overall, i really enjoyed hearing your thoughts! keep it up:)

I'm so happy I found this, I just recently watched the anime for the first time, and I was like "WHY DID NO ONE TELL ME HOW GOOD THIS WAS???" I swear, no one talks about it. I really want to read the manga, but English manga aren't sold in Thailand... But I will get it as soon as I can!

Thank you guys for the exciting discussion. Feels amazing to have HxH rhetoric pop-out more as Togashi's feeling better and drawing again. I agree with the discourse on Nen. What's fascinating is not only each fight is unpredictable because of Nen matchups, but one fight can have different results depending on how much knowledge you have of your opponent's personality (Gon vs Bomber) and the setting (Gon vs Hisoka HA arc). Hec, we even see how false assumption of personality can almost end you **SPOLERS FOR NEW READERS******************************(Knuckle's final punch attempt vs Youpi). It's a simple power system when you think about it but the way Togashi weaves Nen into the world and hearts of its inhabitants makes it much more complex in a logical way. Thus, the greatest power system.

Yeah the oneshot seemed more promising. This is still an alright series, but it leans too heavily on predictable tropes played fairly straight. Definitely less fanservice than a lot of other WSJ romcom series, but it should be capable of doing a lot more. I think it's pretty clear that Hina is going to get with Shuji while Kyo will end up with Ayame. Hina and Kyo maybe had a few hints early on but now seem platonic.

love this review and understood the takes from both sides, also love dat kagurabachi shoutout at the end its really next up!

For me its a 7/10 could be bettwr but still goood.

10/10 & what do you mean “messy”? The art literally was at its peak during the final arc. Unless you mean the epilogue, which was a bit rough, but Hori was sick & tired. He made so many color pages, SJ covers & chapters with no rest. & Endeavor’s not a bastard at all. His whole family is to blame. The mother was incompetent at raising her kids, her parents supported inbreeding to keep the bloodline pure & we saw that with the Paranormal liberation ice dude who’s related to her. The eldest brother is just annoying to me. If you cannot find it within yourself to forgive someone who tries so hard, then you’re even worse of a person than them for how black & white your perspective is on people. Not to mention people would be more forgiving of him if he was a hot woman because sjws & feminists are closeted sexists who think women should get more leeway in society than men.

Average manga. 5/10

do not like this series at all, a lot of really annoying rather than funny character gags and the magic aspect of this series feels really stupid. Loved Assassination Classroom, but this series is a major step down from that in almost all aspects imo.

Right. They've been doing a good job with Sengoku Youko so far and I'm very much looking forward to the later parts of the story. This means out of Mizukami's top 3 works, one apaptation was horrendous and one is solid. And if SY does well enough, maybe there's hope for a Spirit Circle anime too? Also I contributed to the Mononoke Kickstarter, so high hopes for that one. What's been shown off in the updates certainly looked up to snuff.

I'm looking forward to the anime adaptation of the sci-fi romance comedy My Wife Has No Emotion but that's mainly because I've been reading the manga for the past four years or so. I'm surprised that My Wife Has No Emotion got animated before Jirou Sugiura's other big manga, The Fake Alchemist (Nisemono no Renkinjutsushi), considering that The Fake Alchemist is an isekai and would seemingly be an easier sell in today's anime environment.

Very interesting predictions! One series that I think has the potential to become pretty big is "You and I are Polar Opposites". I decided to check it out after seeing it place highly in the Taisho awards, and was quite surprised at how authentic some of those characters felt (Taira and Gapacho are especially great). I could see it following a similar trajectory to Bokuyaba - underwhelming first impressions, slowly rising up the rankings as time goes on until it blows up in popularity. for me at least it is second only to Bokuyaba as far as romance goes
