  • If you've never seen this before check it out as my tractor winches logs around corners and uphills on today's episode. My Wallenstein FX85 is getting put to the test today as I locate some logs in the middle of my red pine plantation that needs to come out to make siding width. As many of you know, all my lumber that I use for my various projects comes from my own woodlot. Gaining access to this timber can be challenging when the desired trees are packed tightly amongst other trees. My Kioti DK40 and my Wallenstein winch allow me to gain access to trees that I can't drive equipment to and help me to easily and safely get the logs I need for lumber. As you'll see in today's video, I'm making use of my yellow nose cone to help me guide logs amongst standing trees and around objects. If you haven't tried one of these they sure are handy units. I'm also utilizing a snatch block to guide logs around 90 degree corners. With a bit of fancy rigging, you'll see me skid 50 feet of logs in one pull! Once I've got all the logs winched up to the landing I put my HLA 66" root rake with grapple through it's paces and load up my logs at my sawmill for processing. Although this forestry work can be tiring as a one-person operation, it sure is enjoyable getting out and getting some fresh air from time-to-time. Glad all you folks came along! Here we go!
