100% agree with all of this. The swatches are a BIG issue and really limit what we can actually do. The thing I find most annoying is door / window heights rarely ever line up, and there's nothing you can really do about it. Also with raising and lowering items, they need to add the ability to lower below original heights. That would fix the stuff you brought up and also allow us to sink items into the terrain. Floating items on terrain looks terrible and that's something they can fix, and make a really useful feature for a lot of the game.
The Sim Supply I miss the customizing tool we had on the sims 3. That would’ve made this game sooooo much better. Building on the sims 3 by far (in my opinion) was the best. You can really make things look a bit more realistic in a sense.

My additional complaints would include: -Black, white, and gray swatches should be available for everything. - I want more fun colors for everything. -Good base game curtains like why the h*ck do I have to pay for good curtains? -Paintings. I need more. -Prettier versions of the nano trashcan because I refuse to use anything else.
Yeah, it's more on the DLC categorised stuff. Things like adding more roof types to prevent unremovable overlaps I see coming to the main game. Also things like fixing the location ability of entertainable objects; TV & stereo on all tables. Plus the window ability to move them down, not just upwards. Add bug/glitch fixes into that, then sure the game would be more popular.
What annoys me the most is the fact that when you put for example two armchairs side by side - the exact same colour and the exact same chair - they don't match because of the lighting. They are both white, but one looks white and the other like .... another white or even a light brown? Like WHY?

How about the fact that the fridges don’t snap or fit to the counters like the one we got in parenthood. There’s always that weird annoying space left in between it and the counter. It’s minor. We can fix it but I’m sayin... and some of the overhead counters, the non standard ones that we can use, like the end counter corner pieces... some don’t even snap to the other counter. It acts goofy and you’re left fighting with it to get it to place. Smh I’m done lol
this might sound dumb, but what if they added a feature where you make your OWN categories for items and stuff. for example, what if you can put your favorite paintings or your favorite plants in a custom, separate category
The ONE thing that drives me absolutely insane, is the stair railings. Some fences don't have railings, but then there's the incompetent color matches that DO NOT WORK. The fence is white but the railing is a dark grey! WHY!?!?!?!? WHY must you hurt me SOOO!!

My biggest issue is the fact that there’s no aspirations for every career ; if i wanna be a doctor I’d appreciate an aspiration that goes with it ! And also the family aspirations are basically impossible : “have child reach top of career/fulfill aspiration” like dude i just got to the top of my career how can i live to see my kid reach it lol..
Some of the aspirations are so easy and take me no time to complete, but the family ones take a ridiculous amount of time lol there needs to be a middle ground.
Yeah but i dont want to have toddlers that live like 20 days, i know there’s mods to set age duration as much as you want but the core game is flawed, and imo aspirations should be possible to complete in any set age duration :/

That's why I meant it more as a joke 😀 that's other annoying thing in the game, that for me, the normal lenght is sometimes too short but the long age duration is way too long, I'd like to have something in between. Or the possibility to change duration individually for babies, children etc.
I hate the fact that they didn't bring back the spiral stairs, all the current ones just look so similar! I def have the swatches problem with the rugs, i don't need a bright yellow/blue rug. Just a simple white one. Especially with the "long" rugs, (the walkers). My BIGGEST pet peeve tho, is that you can't possible make rooms on the attic! In every single normal house you can have rooms in your "roof" if you get what I mean. Even with the sims' 4 half walls you can't make rooms. I feel like this really limits me to make realistic houses. I can't understand how they just seemed to forget about this! Imagine all the possebilities...

Ooooh yes. I forgot about that. I definitely am bothered by lack of attic rooms. There's enough room in there to put the Christmas storage or old kid's toys or maybe even a loft bedroom or den. Like you said, that's a very normal thing to have in a house.
I know that this was posted a while back, but actually, my first build in the sims 4 had attic rooms. I couldn't figure out how to add a floor to my house that I had already roofed, so I just built rooms under the roof and sticking through it like dormers. Now the only problem with this is you can't look at that floor with walls up at all in build mode and the paint on the walls that share a wall with the roof are painted like that of the roof. but it does work (sort of).
there is one that is pretty close in the stone category. There's the clean one named Cushiony Concrette and the cracked one called Sidewalk Slabs. They are both gray and same color of most of the slabs here, but they usually are on the top line. It took me ages to find them too, but at least we got those.
I wish we had curtains that could be fitted to the width of the window (say 1-4 tiles wide) and the wall height. So if you click on a curtain in the catalogue, you'd get several different choices, like you do with the kitchen counters.
Sorry for replying to such an old comment but I think it would be good if you could just kind of drag the curtains to fit it, kind of like you can with walls but maybe with more length and width options other than just 1 tile bigger or smaller, ya know?
1. They need to bring back the Sims 2 swatch idea where you choose separate colors for the bed and counters and everything. I use cc because of that. 2. The lighting in this game is just plain bad. If two things like cabinets or desks are being joined together, there is always a shade lighter than the other one which annoys me soo much. 3. I hate the fact that you can't move windows horizontally, only vertically. 4. Bring back ladders, l-shaped stairs, grand staircases, spiral staircases, etc. The cc ones are amazing but aren't funcional. This is all coming from someone who spends a lot of time in build mode.
Now we have L/U-shaped stairs & ladders + free placement of windows & doors. Now they need to make spiral stairs, sectional sofas, a white swatch for that fence gate, and a decent curtain lol

Oh yeeees, there's so much stuff it's getting harder to find the things that you actually use and I thing the Gurus don't realize how unnecessary some stuff is. Can we just get a separate category for framed pictures/paintings? I get so mad every time I click on the category and see so many useless stickers. They need to make everything more organized, there's just too much going on and a lot of things are very hard to find so decorating can take super long.
I wish we could create our own categories and put what we want in them. I have so much trouble finding stuff I'm looking for in the decorations categories.
Two things that bother me besides this: 1.we have ONE FRIDGE that matches the cabinet height 2.we NEED more tiles/bricks as in flooring and on the wall
All items should come in say 6 basic swatches.... black, white, dark brown, pale brown, and some inbetween browns. But the doors and windows height thing really bugs me!
Either revert the swatches to how sims 2 did it or give us the color wheel back. Then you wouldn’t have all of these complaints about your lazy game developments.
You can’t place things on the shelves! We need more basic looking furniture like ikea style that just looks like a nice, normal family home item. There’s a glitch when you like cut out some of the floor on the upstairs with a fence to do like an indoor balcony situation where roofs on that floor will appear inside a room??? This has been a problem since launch. Semaj has said that when the game first came out he pointed this out to them at a prerelease event but it’s still never been fixed.
yea and seriously WHY IS IT SO HARD TO CHANGE SEASONS? i know that it's affected by the world, but it still really irritates me that you need the weather changing machine AND a sim with a high handiness skill to even get to influence it..

one thing with the swatches is paintings! the frames drive me nuts! all the paintings should have a black, white and a light and dark brown frame that match! also some sets that go together don’t have the same swatches and that drives me nuts as well. we definitely need way more neutral wall paints and neutral carpets! the carpet in game is the absolute worst.
there’s one painting in particular that pisses me off, it’s the wooden boy painting and the mountain/tree painting that fits perfectly, but one has three swatches and the other has six? like why is there so much inconsistency?
kate they do this with so much stuff! seasons had a bunch of matching furniture and some have some swatches that much and others don’t even have that swatch of wood period. it’s so irritating to me!
Why dont they just adapt the way peacemaker does his cc. All the wood matches, always has standard colors. His windows Include every height aswell. It's not hard. If someone does it for free than a paid worker for ea can do it aswell. Periodt.
@Cant Twit The same window at different sizes for different wall heights, with different swatches, is one item. It's counted as such by EA. The issue is if EA gives the Sims 4 team enough time and incentive to create such variables. Normally they don't but once in a while it happens, hence, for example, why they created multiple swatches for some of the laundry day rugs that included the alternate styles.
My wishes for Build Mode: -Different shaped stairs (U shape, Spiral, L Shape) -Matching wood swatches for the floors and stairs -Mix and Match Swatches -Curtains with adjustable lengths (to fit the size of the window in your choice) -L and U shaped couches -Being able to mix and match duvet and bed frame swatches -Basic colour swatches (white, black, light brown, dark brown, grey) for most things -More Terrain Items (Cliffs, Cliff Stairs, Hills) that you can add into the lot -Being able to lower items below their original height. I know these things are probably hard to program and add into the game, but some simple things like the swatch colours matching could really make a difference.
It's kinda funny when you release the version 4 of a game and the options and things to do (at least, in build mode as far as I know) are more limited that other versions. The color wheel for example, they could at least make a universal series of swatches including a division for most things, for example, you could choose the color of the part A and the color of the part B in clothes. I trully wish I could nice looking houses, not the "disney" shit like the vanilla houses from others sims in the game. The interiors look so bad as the scenary out of a family sitcom of the 90'. Lastly, why all the lights are so fucking dim, everyone use those black round ceiling lights because of that.

what I really miss in the game - spiral stairs ... stairs that are in the game take up a lot of space and are not aesthetically nice and also placing the doors and windows outside the grid..
Even The Sims 3 for Wii had spiral staircases! The Sims 3 for Wii didn’t even let you plan outfits outside of CAS. If The Sims 3 for Wii can have spiral staircases despite this, surely The Sims 4 can. Also, The Sims 3 for Wii had open world. That’s all I’m going to say.
I feel like if they were gonna do the swatch system again they should’ve don’t it like sims 2 where you could select swatches for different parts of things like the bed and bed frame or the counter top and counter,I feel like that would’ve helped these problems a lot.
sims 2 had multiple parts of the object that could be swatched separately (e.g: bed frame and bed covers, window frame and window shutters) so I don't understand why sims 4 can't. It's such a simple solution and it was in a 15 year old game ...
I wish they had a category for all things that can be placed on shelves. I never use shelves in my builds because I can never remember which things can be placed there and which ones can’t

The matching swatches problems bothers me too much too! Another problem that I hate is that you can't edit the ceiling. The ceiling is only white, and many situations the ceiling is clashing so much with the rest of the house that bothers me so much! The ceiling is not something that you see often in the gameplay, but I like take screenshots from my houses and sometimes there's angles where the ceiling appears, it's very clashing and I hate it so much!
I agree with you 200%. I have caught myself raging while I try to decorate a house at times. Whether it was for the hight of windows and doors, mismatch swatches, placement, ect. (Having a window off center with the room drives me nuts.) Overtime, I do tend to find the Base game and packs furniture rather boring and frustrating to work with (most of my stuff for build mode is Custom Content for this reason). I do hope they end up fixing these types of things sometime.
It would be really hard to implement that with all the items in the game already. plus I remember in the sims 3, at least in my own experience, it slowed the game soooooo much everytime I opened the customize object tab. But it's just too late to do that with all the packs and packs would take way longer to get out etc.

My top ones have to be: -inability to build ponds -weird glitches like when you try to put exterior wall trim but it won't work if there are stairs against that wall -the fact that you can't choose separate swatches in one item (ie. choosing the bed color separately from covers, counters separate from cabinet, etc) -the fact that all the fences and railing swatches don't match so when you make a porch with steps, you're super limited on your railing/fence options
Another complaint: those industrial wood counters - they don't have matching cabinets for certain swatches. They are my favourite counters in the game but they only have 3 swatches and they don't even match with one another!
Number one complaint from me: decor items not adding to the environment. Especially curtains!!!! Drives me absolutely nuts. What’s the point of putting up curtains if it doesn’t improve the room for my sims? Its just for me then.
I agree and disagree. Its all to do with what gives Sims moodlets, if you have a shabby apartment, with shabby curtains, the more shabby curtains shouldn't equal to a nice environment if you get what I mean? I suppose thats where clutter comes in, but I don't like when if I were to add stains, why that would improve the environment, its ironic that the more detail you would add to a crappy apartment or house your sim would be disgusted by it, but actually they enjoy it? Very odd... lol. Also curtains affect how light enters through windows and shadows that are cast, you can get some nice effects, but I do see your point :)

Ok, the whole gate thing...the first thing you talked about...PREACH! I was so frustrated trying to find a gate that matches that GF fence just recently...and cursing about that blue swatch. One of my biggest issues is the lack of kitchen cabinets that match the counters. For EVERY kitchen counter we have, we should have matching cabinets, and we don't.
What if they purposely leave out white swatches so one day they can release a stuff pack with a similar item WITH a white swatch so people will buy it.... O: I wouldn't be surprised though if that was true

Why can't we move the windows off the grid?! I want to put windows in the center of rooms and can't easily.....it drives me nuts. You have to add or take away a wall to make it center.
I only have the base game and the only simple normal looking bed is uncomfortable, it's annoying. The more comfortable expensive bed looks outrageous for me
When the game first came out, I actually made a list (on paper) of all the things i didn't like about the game. I was so upset that I paid $80 and the game had less than The Sims 2 base game. I'm still waiting for sprinklers so I can garden for real!
OHHH IVE HATED THIS FOR SO LONG. I love the style of those curtain's but they suck. I always seem to use the Vintage Glamour curtains or the Seasons curtains because they are the only ones that look good.
@Cant Twit ooooh I use those quite a bit to. I don't use them as much because the city living curtains have very crazy patterns and the dine out curtains completely cover the window.
It's a really good idea to have like 5 base wood swatches that all wooden items would come in and them they can add any amount of additional crazy wood colors but to have that base so you could match everything, that's the dream.
That would be perfect. Five colours that we could always match with everything would be a dream. And wouldn't it be easier for them to recycle those same wood colours than to create new wood that we won't ever use because it doesn't match anything?

Yes to all of this. One thing that REALLY grinds my gears I was surprised you didn't mention is how the kitchen cabinets and counters from Parenthood don't match. They're the same swatches, but the white bottom cabinet is lighter than the white upper cabinet. I can literally never use the beautiful refrigerator because it matches the upper cabinets' swatch and looks absurd next to the lower cabinets.
Now videos like these are what the Sims community needs more of 💜 I don't build much myself but I did notice how awkward it is that we don't have a plain white swatch of that shelf, and the sliding doors not having an option to take the height of the wall. And OMG YES, more shower/tub combos please!!!

Yes. I also normally got for medium height but I like to build greenhouses and I have to use the tallest height for the trees. I hate that it makes the house height really tall too when I don't need it to be.

How about the fact that the fridges don’t snap or fit to the counters like the one we got in parenthood. There’s always that weird annoying space left in between it and the counter. It’s minor. We can fix it but I’m sayin... and some of the overhead counters, the non standard ones that we can use, like the end counter corner pieces... some don’t even snap to the other counter. It acts goofy and you’re left fighting with it to get it to place. Smh I’m done lol

I hate the fact that they didn't bring back the spiral stairs, all the current ones just look so similar! I def have the swatches problem with the rugs, i don't need a bright yellow/blue rug. Just a simple white one. Especially with the "long" rugs, (the walkers). My BIGGEST pet peeve tho, is that you can't possible make rooms on the attic! In every single normal house you can have rooms in your "roof" if you get what I mean. Even with the sims' 4 half walls you can't make rooms. I feel like this really limits me to make realistic houses. I can't understand how they just seemed to forget about this! Imagine all the possebilities...

Ooooh yes. I forgot about that. I definitely am bothered by lack of attic rooms. There's enough room in there to put the Christmas storage or old kid's toys or maybe even a loft bedroom or den. Like you said, that's a very normal thing to have in a house.
I know that this was posted a while back, but actually, my first build in the sims 4 had attic rooms. I couldn't figure out how to add a floor to my house that I had already roofed, so I just built rooms under the roof and sticking through it like dormers. Now the only problem with this is you can't look at that floor with walls up at all in build mode and the paint on the walls that share a wall with the roof are painted like that of the roof. but it does work (sort of).

there is one that is pretty close in the stone category. There's the clean one named Cushiony Concrette and the cracked one called Sidewalk Slabs. They are both gray and same color of most of the slabs here, but they usually are on the top line. It took me ages to find them too, but at least we got those.

I wish we had curtains that could be fitted to the width of the window (say 1-4 tiles wide) and the wall height. So if you click on a curtain in the catalogue, you'd get several different choices, like you do with the kitchen counters.

1. They need to bring back the Sims 2 swatch idea where you choose separate colors for the bed and counters and everything. I use cc because of that.
2. The lighting in this game is just plain bad. If two things like cabinets or desks are being joined together, there is always a shade lighter than the other one which annoys me soo much.
3. I hate the fact that you can't move windows horizontally, only vertically.
4. Bring back ladders, l-shaped stairs, grand staircases, spiral staircases, etc. The cc ones are amazing but aren't funcional. This is all coming from someone who spends a lot of time in build mode.
And we don't even have L, U shaped sofas even sims freeplay has it

You can’t place things on the shelves! We need more basic looking furniture like ikea style that just looks like a nice, normal family home item. There’s a glitch when you like cut out some of the floor on the upstairs with a fence to do like an indoor balcony situation where roofs on that floor will appear inside a room??? This has been a problem since launch. Semaj has said that when the game first came out he pointed this out to them at a prerelease event but it’s still never been fixed.
You forgot one more- we should be able to change the season in build mode like how we can change day/afternoon/night.

@Cant Twit The same window at different sizes for different wall heights, with different swatches, is one item. It's counted as such by EA. The issue is if EA gives the Sims 4 team enough time and incentive to create such variables. Normally they don't but once in a while it happens, hence, for example, why they created multiple swatches for some of the laundry day rugs that included the alternate styles.
My wishes for Build Mode:
-Different shaped stairs (U shape, Spiral, L Shape)
-Matching wood swatches for the floors and stairs
-Mix and Match Swatches
-Curtains with adjustable lengths (to fit the size of the window in your choice)
-L and U shaped couches
-Being able to mix and match duvet and bed frame swatches
-Basic colour swatches (white, black, light brown, dark brown, grey) for most things
-More Terrain Items (Cliffs, Cliff Stairs, Hills) that you can add into the lot
-Being able to lower items below their original height.
I know these things are probably hard to program and add into the game, but some simple things like the swatch colours matching could really make a difference.

It's kinda funny when you release the version 4 of a game and the options and things to do (at least, in build mode as far as I know) are more limited that other versions. The color wheel for example, they could at least make a universal series of swatches including a division for most things, for example, you could choose the color of the part A and the color of the part B in clothes.
I trully wish I could nice looking houses, not the "disney" shit like the vanilla houses from others sims in the game. The interiors look so bad as the scenary out of a family sitcom of the 90'.
Lastly, why all the lights are so fucking dim, everyone use those black round ceiling lights because of that.

Even The Sims 3 for Wii had spiral staircases! The Sims 3 for Wii didn’t even let you plan outfits outside of CAS. If The Sims 3 for Wii can have spiral staircases despite this, surely The Sims 4 can. Also, The Sims 3 for Wii had open world. That’s all I’m going to say.

The matching swatches problems bothers me too much too! Another problem that I hate is that you can't edit the ceiling. The ceiling is only white, and many situations the ceiling is clashing so much with the rest of the house that bothers me so much! The ceiling is not something that you see often in the gameplay, but I like take screenshots from my houses and sometimes there's angles where the ceiling appears, it's very clashing and I hate it so much!

I agree with you 200%. I have caught myself raging while I try to decorate a house at times. Whether it was for the hight of windows and doors, mismatch swatches, placement, ect. (Having a window off center with the room drives me nuts.)
Overtime, I do tend to find the Base game and packs furniture rather boring and frustrating to work with (most of my stuff for build mode is Custom Content for this reason).
I do hope they end up fixing these types of things sometime.

It would be really hard to implement that with all the items in the game already. plus I remember in the sims 3, at least in my own experience, it slowed the game soooooo much everytime I opened the customize object tab. But it's just too late to do that with all the packs and packs would take way longer to get out etc.

And more round and square tables and spiral stairs and L stair. and plain doors. Just more basic stuff that people in RL have.
RECENTLY I realized that for some of the “MATCHING” cabinets and cupboards DONT MATCH SWATCHES EITHER. Like the ‘tall order vintage counter’ 😤😤
My top ones have to be:
-inability to build ponds
-weird glitches like when you try to put exterior wall trim but it won't work if there are stairs against that wall
-the fact that you can't choose separate swatches in one item (ie. choosing the bed color separately from covers, counters separate from cabinet, etc)
-the fact that all the fences and railing swatches don't match so when you make a porch with steps, you're super limited on your railing/fence options
Another complaint: those industrial wood counters - they don't have matching cabinets for certain swatches. They are my favourite counters in the game but they only have 3 swatches and they don't even match with one another!
Number one complaint from me: decor items not adding to the environment. Especially curtains!!!! Drives me absolutely nuts. What’s the point of putting up curtains if it doesn’t improve the room for my sims? Its just for me then.
I agree and disagree. Its all to do with what gives Sims moodlets, if you have a shabby apartment, with shabby curtains, the more shabby curtains shouldn't equal to a nice environment if you get what I mean? I suppose thats where clutter comes in, but I don't like when if I were to add stains, why that would improve the environment, its ironic that the more detail you would add to a crappy apartment or house your sim would be disgusted by it, but actually they enjoy it? Very odd... lol. Also curtains affect how light enters through windows and shadows that are cast, you can get some nice effects, but I do see your point :)
@@hinez3660 That's an easy solution though: don't give an environment score to everything but just to the nice curtains. It's how they handle the plants...

Ok, the whole gate thing...the first thing you talked about...PREACH! I was so frustrated trying to find a gate that matches that GF fence just recently...and cursing about that blue swatch. One of my biggest issues is the lack of kitchen cabinets that match the counters. For EVERY kitchen counter we have, we should have matching cabinets, and we don't.

I care so much about the lack of matching swatches!! We need some generic MATCHING wood swatches that every piece of furniture comes in!!! Why in the world do we not have matching wood swatches?!?! I always thought I was the only one who was so upset about this problem! 😫
Why can't we move the windows off the grid?! I want to put windows in the center of rooms and can't easily.....it drives me nuts. You have to add or take away a wall to make it center.

I only have the base game and the only simple normal looking bed is uncomfortable, it's annoying. The more comfortable expensive bed looks outrageous for me

When the game first came out, I actually made a list (on paper) of all the things i didn't like about the game. I was so upset that I paid $80 and the game had less than The Sims 2 base game. I'm still waiting for sprinklers so I can garden for real!

OHHH IVE HATED THIS FOR SO LONG. I love the style of those curtain's but they suck. I always seem to use the Vintage Glamour curtains or the Seasons curtains because they are the only ones that look good.

It's a really good idea to have like 5 base wood swatches that all wooden items would come in and them they can add any amount of additional crazy wood colors but to have that base so you could match everything, that's the dream.
That would be perfect. Five colours that we could always match with everything would be a dream. And wouldn't it be easier for them to recycle those same wood colours than to create new wood that we won't ever use because it doesn't match anything?
@@AMTO1834 Yeah, you'd think they'd do that since they do recycle a lot of textures and some 3D models. It would save them time and money unless for some reason those 5 basic wood swatches don't properly align on every piece of furniture which sounds bizarre to me.

Yes to all of this. One thing that REALLY grinds my gears I was surprised you didn't mention is how the kitchen cabinets and counters from Parenthood don't match. They're the same swatches, but the white bottom cabinet is lighter than the white upper cabinet. I can literally never use the beautiful refrigerator because it matches the upper cabinets' swatch and looks absurd next to the lower cabinets.

I don't build much myself but I did notice how awkward it is that we don't have a plain white swatch of that shelf, and the sliding doors not having an option to take the height of the wall.

9:31 In sims 2 we have a perfect example, each object has a double option of color, for example you can change the color of bed and sheet separately, and was cool. I neve understand why the color wheel of sims 3 has been removed of sims 4, they could reward us with the way of sims 2 to change the colors

Yes. I also normally got for medium height but I like to build greenhouses and I have to use the tallest height for the trees. I hate that it makes the house height really tall too when I don't need it to be.
