i think most people expect from these "shooting secrets" are the unique mechanics of the shooting form: like the set point, release angle (cant believe the ultra high arc of dirks shot is not even mentioned), finger release (jordan and kobe use index finger release), the guide hand, the follow through, the ball on plam etc. i have watched way too many of these "shooting secrets" and all the video mentioned are stuff like great footwork, lazer focus of the eyes LOL

hey coach, is it okay for a shooter to sometimes shoot from the chest, sometimes from the head?because for me, it works both but my coach in my team said that i should shoot from near the head..

man today i got a sudden stroke of insporation and bumped the defender and did his sig fade and it worked

i am not the best 3pt shooter but i still a comfortable and consistent stroke from there, but just inside the top of the key and around that area, I have trouble hitting shots because if i do my regular jump shot, i get way too much power and miss and it is too far for me to do a standing layup, what should i do? #askcoachC

Great video but I totally disagree on one thing. You do not need to lock your arm out like Dirk does. I would actually argue that it's better if your shooting arm never locks completely but at the very least either way is acceptable. Watch Ray Allen shoot and you'll see his arm does not lock out all the way.

Hey Coach Collin, I need some advice.
Out of game, I have okay handles, nothing to special, but eh. My friend even says I have the best handles out of all my friends. But in a game, or even just 1 on 1, I lose the ball. Gets stolen or I flat out mess up something as simple as a crossover and it goes to the other team or out of bounds. Now I have no way to score except for the catch and shoot. I'm still going to practice and all, but I really want to make my school team, and school starts in a couple days which means try outs are soon, and there's no way I will make the team if i am a liability on offense. I have been playing for about 2 months, and I'm a pretty solid player minus the handle situation. Any help?
You probably think too much, just go with the flow and let your game speak for itself. If you do feel you are a liability on offense, try to be a plus on defense, when I have horrible shooting nights, I lockdown the guy I guard and try to help the team win first. Hope this helps

Yes work on your handles in your drive way in the gym, anywhere that ya can
Next work on shooting off the dribble I was just like you couldn't shoot off the dribble but now I can just work hard before tryouts and I know how you feel, my school starts in a couple of days to :)
And your shooting work on something that works for you and if your missing left, right, short, or long work on one at a time
I know it seems boring but ya gotta tighten up them handles with drills
I'm no coach but If you say that you get picked a lot then I would guess you don't dribble the ball low enough. If you dribble low to the floor you will have more control over the ball and it will be harder for your defender to steal the ball if it's bouncing very quickly.

Can someone give me some advice or tips? Every time I drive hard into the lane for the layup I always seem to lay the ball up to hard and it goes off the glass hard and basically missing the whole layup. Basically what I'm asking does anyone have any tips on going strong the the rim but finishing with a soft touch? Besides saying practice Lol. Please and thank you guys.

Try raising you arm higher when going up for the layup. A mistake I have found myself and others doing is releasing the ball for a layup very low like at chest/head level. Anyways hope this might help.
My Perspective Explode more up rather than out when you jump. If you are moving super fast and jump regularly your momentum will carry you forward. Instead when you go to jump do a couple things...
#1 make sure your shoulders are not over you jumping knee. the should be back over your hips. This will transfer the momentum up rather than out.
#2 have both eyes at the rim, this will help get your momentum up as well.

When you attack the basket. Keep the ball no where below your waist, and when attack and come off the dribble, slow down. What I mean is attack hard but at the basket slow down a little so the momentum don't transfer to the ball and you end up miss a lay up.
Try doing an underhand layup or the finger role instead when you are moving fast towards the basket. That will slow or completely stop the balls momentum while you are moving quickly. If you try it, let me know if it worked for you like it did for me.

All these moves mainly help if you're 7 feet tall
Well if you're shorter than your defender, and you want to shoot, initiating contact and falling away is the best way ensure you don't get blocked. I'm 6'2" and I play a 2 or shooting 3 position usually, but I can easily take shots over taller 4s and 5s by using the shoulder bump and a fade. Same thing applies if you are short. It's all relative to your defender.
You are correct, though, that the shorter you are, the more strength it takes to perform a fadeaway shot due to you being further from the basket. So in that sense, yes, these moves are _easier_ the taller you are, but equally effective.
yeah I can't seem to shoot it straight if I'm fading and also not dipping the ball which is hard cause I'm 5'8
