Cody is a tremendous wrestler. I thoroughly enjoyed his early matches (and some of his later ones) for the classic pacing elements. Sometimes, these new guys are all about going 100 mph and working themselves up to high speeds without giving the crowd time to absorb it all. Even in Cody's shorter matches, he would help it to culminate in a crescendo by building it up at a constant pace. I would love to watch more of Cody's matches now and continue to follow him. Cody showed in this interview (and so many others that he's done) that he has a heart for the business. He's not in it to play politics or get paid out in spades; he has a reverent attitude that makes me want to support him in any way I can.
That, and high-risk for high-reward is largely taxing on these young wrestlers. Bob Backlund and Bret Hart are both the type of wrestlers who had great technical skill and didn't have to put life and limb on the line like the "new" cruiserweight division in WWE. Not that they aren't amazing at what they do, but it takes a lot less to go wrong for them to get hurt than it did for Bret or Bob to get hurt.
and miz. hated him at first but now one of my favourites he's style of wrestling now is really fun to watch he reminds me of william regal the way he perform his moves, he by far in my opinion the most improved wrestler this year and people are noticing it.
Agreeed. I never got the miz hate. He works a pretty damn good pretty-boy heel. Plus he got his tooth knocked out of his head and still went live on RAW the next night. You try it.
miz for me took a long time to warm up to (kinda like Cena). I think because I grew up seeing him on Real World first. but his passion is clear and he obviously has improved
Miz loves what he does and it shows in the ring & out of the ring...I met him a few times and whats insane is he remembers me he asks me how my mom is doing (she just had a tumor removed)..And his wife is just as nice and beautiful in person TV doesn't do her justice..
Met Cody at a recent Chaotic Wrestling show. Worked one of the smaller shows they run, about 200 people in attendance in a small elks lodge and he was a really nice guy. Spoke with him for a couple of minutes regarding his work outside of WWE.
I always had a soft spot for Cody because he's relatable as a video game nerd and he loved Legend of Zelda like alot of us do. He's like a big kid in a good way ofcourse. I wish him and his wife the best. He seems awesome.
If he didn't want to be Stardust anymore they should've just let him and Goldust feud with the angle being "Goldust trying to get Stardust to turn back into Cody Rhodes". That to me would've been an amazing feud to see.
Demian Knight i honestly was hoping to see then face of at mania, was one of the matches i was looking for the most but wwe had to burn it at roadblock (i think) and bury the feud.
You people do realize that wwe tried to make a mania feud out of that in 2015 right? But stupid idiot fans were to busy chanting "Cm punk" so vince scrapped it smh
You do realize that Vince used that as an excuse to claim he thought people didnt like the angle, even though he know they were hijacking the show no matter who's storyline they were watching at the moment. They only changed it to teach the crowd a lesson, because they thought that the stardust-golddust angle wouldn't make a huge difference anyway. boy, were they wrong.
Great interview with Rhodes. Really cool, down to earth guy with great stories. Loved hearing his comments about The Miz too, puts things in a great new perspective
Cody Rhodes is almost like a more athletic Dusty. That is not meant as an insult to either man. Yet Cody is a really good promo, a really good worker and someone you can put the company on his back. The same thing could be said about dusty 30 years ago.
Cody definitely has the "it" factor. He's always on, stuffing his talent inside that stupid star spangled condom was one of the worst mistakes WWE ever made. He is one of the most legitimate raw natural talents that company has ever had, he can do it all, and he should have been allowed to.
I agree Cody was very well rounded and his stuff was tight. The only thing that i'll take away from him is his natural look as he doesn't really stand out. He has the ability to overcome that with his storytelling and charisma. There are a ton of guys that I would have let go in favor of Cody though. I think he will be come back to the WWE in a few years. He never reached his full potential in the WWE.
the fact that he became the star instead of DiBiase despite it being obvious that the WWE was pushing the latter speaks volumes (and that's not meant as a knock on DiBiase). also, he was trying his hardest to get everything over he was allowed to work with... and succeeded most of the time.
You realize that "stuffing him inside a condom" was the spark that ignited the flame, right??? Frustration brought greatness out of him. Wasn't like he was lightin' the world on fire before Stardust.

Great interview as always. Cody is one of the best in the business, and unfortunately is on the ever increasing list of talent that the WWE has decided they're simply too good for lately. Whoever it is in the company who's made the decision to try to hold something as legendary as the Dream's last name for ransom is truly despicable. He simply deserves to be able to use it.
This actually turned out to be the best thing that ever happened to him though. The things he's done in ROH and New Japan are so much better than anything he ever could have accomplished in WWE. He's easily THE breakout star of the wrestling world right now.
It baffles me how the WWE couldn't see Cody as the face of WWE or at least in and about the title mix. He got every gimmick he had over as a heel or face, whichever it was supposed to be. He is an excellent and intelligent talker and he has an iconic wrestling heritage oh and he can totally wrestle with anyone. Also from what a friend who has met him says he and his wife are thoroughly nice people.
honestly I do miss Cody Rhodes. he is a great performer and he deserves to be in the ring. I hope he can have another opportunity to be in the ring again.
i liked it too. it was a crappy concept but cody made it look good. the way he acted and those bizzare things he did as stardust were a joy to watch. it looked like goldust yet very different. i would've love to see the original plan though a super villain-esque character would be a amazing.
He's doing great for himself, NJPW US champion, NWA champion, ROH champion, former member of the Bullet club, putting on a sold out super card with the bucks and now a promoter and excutive Vice President of AEW: All Elite wrestling. wow this is actually one if not the most enjoyable interview i've ever heard! loved to hear all the stories about Dusty and Dustin and Cody came out as 100% honest and nice guy.
Coming from someone who started watching WWE again back in June, I do wish Cody was still on there. He was always a great performer. But I do think Vince pushed the stardust thing for too long. Thats why I quit watching right after punk left. He relied on so...so many gimmicks. I mean 'somebody better call my mama!' 'But Cesaro better not be the one wanting out of WWE!!! I really enjoy his performances on the show'
Yeah Vince always gets into the goofy gimmick mindset every couple eras. Don't know why, it's not like his dad was into goofy characters, big jacked dudes yeah but not goofy gimmicks. But yeah Vince did them in the 80's and brought them back in the early to mid 90's, then again a few years ago. Vince is a odd duck, I mean he's doing the XFL again for crying out loud.
@ this is true, still can't figure out his obsession with goofy gimmicks. The big slow jacked dudes he got from his dad Vince sr. as when he ran the WWF or WWWF as it was called it was filled with big jacked slow dudes but not goofy gimmicks, the goofiest Vince Sr had was Susperstar Billy Gram and he was more of a proto Hulk Hogan just Gram was a heel.
Everything worked out. Cody became one of the two biggest stars in wrestling today alongside Roman. He caught up to his father's students. He main-evented Wrestlemania 39 but fell short of winning the world championships that have eluded his family. The story isn't finished yet. All roads lead to Wrestlemania 40.
That was a really special interview Sam, great job. It might seem weird, but you're an inspiration for me. I love journalism, and intend on incorporating wrestling with that. Thanks for paving the way, hopefully one day I can run you out of business. XD
And the fact that he was actually THE HEEL in the WWE at the time, but got kicked to the curb by Rock's comeback? He still is really, he never stopped, but has been treated like shit since doing comedy skits. Still very relevant, still stupidly talented on the mic, still works hard and tells compelling wrestling stories while competing with Cesaros, Zayns and all other internet darling characters.
An angle I thought would have been fun would be running Cody as hilmself, but the stardust gimic trying to take over. like the black suit on spider man. would have taken tremendous acting. but have someone else like a Roderick strong do the stardust, no tight face shots with a camera. then have a Cody vs stardust. match, kill the gimic..
Seeing this now , I appreciate him even more. Now he's RoH champ, had his first taste of Okada. Hopefully Shibata can wrestle again. That I'd like to see.
Cody was always one of my favorites through most of his WWE run. He made the most of every gimmick he was given and was consistently reinventing his character to keep himself interesting and fresh. He was constantly on the verge of breaking through to the main event, only to be pushed back down to the mid-card. I absolutely loved his mask/paperbag run, probably his greatest gimmick in WWE. Very inspiring interview and I wish him the best.
Old wrestling fan here... And knew of Cody, but seems like he is a great guy and has a bright future in and out of the ring... He could be the next Rock/TV star or radio host Great Communicator... Like Dusty (Haha) I am now a huge Cody fan
Hearing Cody tell the part of what happened with the Stardust gimmick creation explains a lot with how the Universal Championship turned out how it did.
I stopped watching WWF and WCW when they stopped letting matches end during that period where there was a DQ every single match, this is the first time in decades I’m excited about wrestling, CODY AND AEW !!!
This is what I would have done if I was writing for WWE, I would have taken Stardust and Dean Ambrose, turned Dean Ambrose into The Joker an Cody took more of The Riddler persona, and put them both with HHH and that would have been the Kings Court, and HHH could have won the title an had them protecting him all thru his run, and he can also take Shamus as his Knight! It would have worked then
The age of "cartoonish" characters has ended since Hogan got booed in WCW before joining the NWO Same thing happened to Batman from the Adam West to the Nolan era where if you take off the cape, the story still work.
It was probably Xavier Woods who thought Omega was going to WWE and I think Dolph and Cesaro are the friends who wanted out and I think Dolph only told he was happy now because he got the shot at Summerslam
ownedweezybaby he got punished for being over and you can tell that he's pretty angry with how he's been treated basically for as long as he's been part of the main product.
Bill Blass he's been at a few ROH shows with the Young Bucks, maybe he's like an honorary BC member for namesake, I didn't really think he could fit in anyway
Ever since he left WWE, I legit have become the biggest Cody Rhodes mark...love that dude, he's my pick for wrested of the year 2017.

Cody Rhodes reminds me of George McFly with his speech pattern
Your hair must be scared of your face Sam, It has the front line in retreat!
Lmao nice one
ffs
7 years later and he’s back in WWE. Crazy world
Listened to it on podcast and it was great. SO GOOD!
Such an awesome interview. Would love to somehow meet Cody or Sam someday.
i like that a son of dusty looks like a member of the 4 horsemen
I stopped watching WWF and WCW when they stopped letting matches end during that period where there was a DQ every single match, this is the first time in decades I’m excited about wrestling, CODY AND AEW !!!
What rap song was Stardust's theme based off? I for the life of me cannot figure it out...
eminem - when im gone
The Murphy hell no.
oh sorry i meant 50 cent - pimp
The Murphy ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Bone Thugs-N-Harmony - Look Into My Eyes
This is what I would have done if I was writing for WWE, I would have taken Stardust and Dean Ambrose, turned Dean Ambrose into The Joker an Cody took more of The Riddler persona, and put them both with HHH and that would have been the Kings Court, and HHH could have won the title an had them protecting him all thru his run, and he can also take Shamus as his Knight! It would have worked then
The age of "cartoonish" characters has ended since Hogan got booed in WCW before joining the NWO
Same thing happened to Batman from the Adam West to the Nolan era where if you take off the cape, the story still work.
I'm glad he's coming HOME to WWE.
It was probably Xavier Woods who thought Omega was going to WWE and I think Dolph and Cesaro are the friends who wanted out and I think Dolph only told he was happy now because he got the shot at Summerslam
I think it was dean Ambrose bro. The guy that was leavin at first then got what he wanted.
definitely cesaro as the unhappy one, I really think he would have preferred to be with smackdown and not forced into this best of 7 shit.
+Eric Ratcliffe hell yea!
Eric Ratcliffe Agreed I think he doesn't enjoy the best of 7 he's been in with and would of rather been Smackdown.
ownedweezybaby he got punished for being over and you can tell that he's pretty angry with how he's been treated basically for as long as he's been part of the main product.
*A waukuth wound of appause* - Sam appears to be interviewing Homestar Runner!
Cody purposely left Kenny Omega off his list, what a genius #BulletClub
Bill Blass check out wk11 or any show he's appeared on since 🤘🏻
Bill Blass he's been at a few ROH shows with the Young Bucks, maybe he's like an honorary BC member for namesake, I didn't really think he could fit in anyway
Well we sure know he is now!
AEW
sounds like its ripped off from look into my eyes from bone thugs n harmony
Double or Nothing brings me here...again.
Awesome interview, cody was wasted in wwe
