    The interesting thing about the Odegaard critisim is if Rice and Havertz finish their chances we'd say “our captain missed the pen but he rose in a big moment and got the game winning assist.” But because our players miss the fanbase wants to highlight what Odegaard can't do instead of what he's doing

      I also think if Rice and Havertz performed as he has they'd be praised for their contributions. Havertz especially is graded on a curve whilst Odegaard's creativity and displays technical brilliance have been normalised to the point of being overlooked.

      @ I agree Odegaard should be held to a much higher standard because we know how good he is and what he's done for us. But sometimes we need to take a step back and remember how useless we looked without Odegaard

    Martinelli used to be able to dribble, Trossard used to be able to shoot, Arsenal used to be able to attack without doing the slow horseshoe passing... what happened?

    • @Kovacs901
      @Kovacs901 วันที่ผ่านมา +9

      Martinelli has never been able to dribble he just runs with his head down in straight lines, but he’s great at making off the ball runs behind but he can’t do that against low blocks.
      Trossard is still great at shooting he just can’t create separation to get his shot off because of his physical limitations but when he comes off the bench against tired legs that limitation isn’t there.

    • @samoso6979
      @samoso6979 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

    You're both being too harsh on odegaard.
    The pirouette mid transition was admittedly poor, but apart from that he had a brilliant creative performance. First half he very vertical and took many risks even though you said he wasn't brave enough. Second half he put it on a plate three times.
    Odegaard isn't perfect but he's the last arsenal player to speak about yesterday. I feel like we as fans ask for too much from him and havertz. It is poor squad building that has got us the point where we have to heavily rely on them.

    • @davroy5890

    • @eoe08001
      @eoe08001 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      Agree with everything you said. Odegaard isn't the best transitional midfielder but you can't use yesterday to fault his creative play when he created so many chances. That's not exactly objective. If anything, Mikel should re-asses his squad because at the moment Odegaard is our most creative player. I'd like Mikel to pressure the board to go into the market to find other solutions.

    I could talk for hours about the issues with Arsenal and where we could improve, but i will try to keep it short and to the points.
    Arteta has done well with Arsenal. He has got us to the position of challenging again after many years of being nowhere near. Then, at the end of last season, he said not to be happy and content because there is more to come from this team and trophies to come. But this season has been so, so mixed and now it feels the wheels have well and truly come off.
    The issues started in the summer. We didn't bring in quality and depth in the summer. Only a panic loan of sterling. Nowhere near enough done.
    The injuries suffered to key players have been unlucky, but also proved the point that we dont have sufficient cover in depth.
    Some players were tired coming into the season. The likes of Rice and Saka came into the season without much downtime/rest after playing in the euros. Which is always a recipe for disaster IMO.
    Our tactics are too predictable. We just keep playing the same way (maybe down to injured players), which needs altering. Teams seem to know how to set up against us and put us off our game.
    Honestly. I just feel this season is a right off now. Lack of action had this season doomed from the start of the season it seemed.
    In order for us to get to the point of possibly salvaging this season and then improving going into next season. A few things need to happen.
    1. We need to be ruthless in this window and summer window. Both incomings and out goings. Looking at Jesus, Zinchenko, Tomiyasu, Tierney. Possibly a few others. Then buy 3 forwards, 1 midfielder, 1 defender (LB) and a back up goalie.
    2. I know its very unlikely to happen. But we could do with players not playing in the summer and having a proper rest from football. The likes of Rice, Saka, Timber, Saliba, Gabriel ect all need a summer off to recharge physically and mentally.
    3. Tactics need to change when we attack. Defensively i think we are fine. Yes, we have dropped off compared to last season, but with a full fit squad, im not concerned defense wise. As for attack, we are far to slow in transition, not direct enough and sometimes we just need to shoot from outside the box. If we get top attackers, sometimes you just need to allow then to work on instinct, rather than just controlled football. Also, slowing down our attacks by taking too long on throw ins needs to stop. It hurts us more than the opposition, as it gives them more time to get into their defensive shape.
    This is of course my opinion and its easier said than done. However, we are 5 years into this project now. Its the time for rewards and quite frankly....it looks like we are starting to regress rather than getting over the final hurdle. I hope i am wrong and i do hope Arteta can sort this out, but the longer this goes on for....the more im starting to doubt unfortunately.

    Alex you mentioned that they have been good since taking over and I completely agree with you.
    I’d love you to do a video highlighting the negligence of not signing a player and the issue with leaving it to the summer.
    I fear they won’t do anything this window which scares me as the blame will land on arteta solely and not the owners as well at the end of a failed season.

    A bit of arrogance / lack of humility from Alex: it's reasonable for people to say they expected Havertz to fall off given the large sample they'd had of him at Chelsea and Arsenal.
    I'd hoped he could continue but my brother and a few of my friends were convinced he had a hot streak...no biggie, everyone gets things wrong. Just admit that you didn't see what others perhaps did rather than mocking those who saw things differently to you.

I cant he just does not have that personality, he is a side character not the main man, so when arsenal didnt sign the main man in the summer, the writing for the season was on the wall unless saka somehow could carry us through another which considering his age and the workload he has had was bound to fail at some stage.

    Y'all are brilliant and honest. Brilliant pod. But even contemplating that Martin odegaard is not a pillar means that it might be click bait for fans. • @pat24490
    @pat24490 วันที่ผ่านมา +4

    I think the Odegaard position is the one that is really holding us back. Playing in an advanced midfield role , we should have someone who can run beyond the last attacker (Lampard) , dribble (Morgan Rogers) , run into space or else be an out and out assist king(Ozil / Cesc). Odegaard doesn't have any of those abilities. We cant say Odegaard "isn't that type of player" yet play him in a role where we need that type of player. We need an upgrade on him as our attacking shape is based off playing an AM so we need a good one. It's an uncomfortable conversation for many fans who have falsely put Odegaard on a pedestal when it turns out it was Saka all along.
    Worst of all is that opponents defending in a low block must love facing Odegaard as they know he wont be running in behind them or being able to dribble passed them. He keeps possession in a tidy way but that is so not good enough for the key position he holds in our team.
    A Morgan Rogers instead of Odegaard with his running ability suddenly makes Martinelli/ Saka and our whole attack so much more potent simply by being able to dribble / ball carry to a high level as he makes defenders commit themselves.

    • @Jim_Milton29
      @Jim_Milton29 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Amen! Odegaard creation stats are basically Mustafi tkl+int stats. This one guy:
      1)makes our elite inverted fullbacks useless since he's always occupying their role.
      2)forces us to play a 6+ giant in a B2B role since he can't fall back in the midfield 2.
      Xhaka, Merino, Rice - all did their best to be an attacking threat but only so much you can do when you're supposed to be a pivot player off the ball.
      3)Provides 0 off the ball support around Saka.
      4)Makes Havertz suboptimal by again- providing 0 off the ball dynamism. Just look at Havertz for Germany- Musiala, Wirtz, Sane.... DYNAMISM for days.
      5)All of the above makes Martinelli usage suboptimal.
      I'll celebrate for weeks once this guy leaves. Single handedly putting a ceiling on half our starting XI.

    • @pat24490
      @pat24490 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @MovieTrialers you're referring to the 60 minutes we played against a ten man United team and the 500 crosses he chucked into the box. He created nothing in the first 60 minutes against 11 men and was completely overshadowed by Bruno.
      Against Newcastle last Wednesday in a cup semi final (and 11 men) , Rice created 5 chances , Saliba created 1 chance. Odegaard created 0 chances. Odegaard has 1 goal (a penalty) and 2 assists in the league all season. If that's the level you are happy with from your attacking midfielder then that's fine. Personally I want more than that. It's fine to disagree. Maybe he'll pick up his third league assist before the season is over and I'll be proved completely wrong.

    20:30, well I'm gonna put up my hands and say "I knew" to ur question Alex, u know how i knew... I texted that i lost faith in Arteta last season for reasons and i knew that Arteta would put Kai Havertz in midfield every chance he got instead of keeping him up front and i knew it would affect his form(remember arteta is in love with potatoes afterall).
    Kai is a frail individual mentally, he doesnt have HIM energy, he will play whereever the manager tells him. With the constant changing of positions i knew it would affect him negatively.
    Alex u should give urself more credit cause u also predicted this cause u made a video about simplifying Havertz's role to get the best out of him, which the striker role did.
    Due to u trying to have a positive outlook, u made havertz work in ur mind, u also predicted merino being bad so far, remember ur first video of the signing, u were not pleased but over time u convinced urself that it could work.
    Trust ur instincts young man, there are things in this world that cant be explained through sheer logic and analysis, somethings u just KNOW.

Spent 700m, yet we still need a left winger, lcm, striker and a backup for saka…also we need backups for mentioned positions as well.
    Signed injury prone players from bologna and then goes on to complain about player injuries.
    Ran players like saka and odegaard to the ground. Signed a bonafide flop in #29 because he wants to showcase his genius. Vanity project has set us back by at least 2-3 years minimum.

    20:00 I will put my hand up and take the pat on the back, a few months of decent goal scoring form was not enough to convince me that Kai Havertz should be our starting striker going into this season. With all the scounting videos and data analysis you do i think it should have been obvious to you too. Hes a barely average footballer, very clumsy on the ball, he treats the ball like a hot potato, tries to get rid of it to the nearest teammate each time he gets the ball.
    3 years of form at Chelsea would scream to us that he was never ever gonna be good enough for this club and now its costing Arteta. He bought him as a midfielder to play left 8, we still need a left 8. He moved him upfront and we still nedd a striker.
    Until the fans hold to club accountable and dont allow them to make signings like this, don't allow them to make him the highest paid player after 3 years of failure, then we will continue to be Netflix/banter FC, a shelter for broken players, raise the standards, stop justifying nonsense please. If it is clear it is not going to work out call it out. Arteta knows football yes, but so do fans.

      @Carbide1991 odegaard is shit mate. I guarantee he wouldn't get in any other team in the top 6. Arteta built the team around him and it made him look way better than he actually is. the earlier we get rid of him the better considering how highly he's perceived we might get a big fee for an average player like him🙏

      If you take Odegaard out of that team, they are not scoring a single goal from open play. He is the only creator in that team. The issue is not makes line breaking passes in Arsenal. Not partey, not Rice, not Merino

    What's funny, despite all the doom and gloom, is we have done better this season so far than we did last season.
    Of course, injury concerns mean we might not have the same second half as last time around ... and so it feels worse.
    But to blame Arteta because White and Tomiyasu have missed most of the season, Ode's missed a chunk, Saka's out ... and now Jesus is out. Kai has been ill. Rice had issues. Cala and Timber have had to miss games. And we lost Nwaneri.
    Ask City and Liverpool to play through a season with those injuries, then sack Pep and Klopp/Slot
    Anyone who wants Arteta out has to be a Spuds fan at heart. He is the best thing to have happened to Arsenal in a long time.
    AFTV, on the other hand, are the worst thing in this amazing club's wonderful history. Ever!

      Exactly! It is all PR tools unless you actually win games and big titles. What is the point of highlighting a teams XG and field tilt when the glaring problem is the attack

    The idea of a Rice+ Odegaard+ One sounds good until you realize the ONE has to be a 6+ feet duel winner since He is the one who will have to drop back in a double pivot OOP. Because Odegaard can't.
    So you're stuck with a deep lying playmaker who can't defend in a double pivot who is also a high presser who can't play as a 10.
    My only problem is WHY? Why do so much mental gymnastics to platform such a limited player ??
    Rice + Baleba/Locatelli/similar profile.
    get a 10 ahead of them who can be part of the attacking 4.
    none of this woke BS.

    Ive never been more dissapoointed in you two (who i adore) then during this conversation about oodergard. It really lacked nuance. Picking on our captain right now for all hes done is poor. Theres so many reasons for his current form. This was a really catastiphising take. Really poor guys. Your normally better at level arguments than this...

    Since the club is making my life miserable right now I'm going to pause watching Arsenal and go watch Athletic club and Leipzig.
