Being aquired by gearbox they seem to want to keep pushing DLCs, which is excactly what I want. I want a stupid amount of survivors, items, levels, enememies. I wanted RoR2 to become something like Isaac in the amount of content. I didn't expect that this can actually happen.
Imo they didn't mean it was a nothing burger as in "there's nothing at all" but more so it's mostly a reiteration of things we've been told are happening, i.e. the mobile game, the new dlcs existing, and so on, alongside the new gearbox devs just kinda saying things that don't have any meaning.

Mobile games can be dicey for sure, but i do think the trailer team did an amazing job. Animation was really cute and action-packed, god bless the teddy bear for taking the hit

I’m assuming the 5 meteors do actually mean 5 more droppods with survivors based on the ones from ROR 1. Might be a bit optimistic but I’m not sure what else their number could mean
@@danieljensen6154 I did notice on the siren’s call stage that 2 seem to be purple-ish while 3 are blue, although that could mean anything Edit: looking at it from other stages it might actually be 8 overall with 4 blue and 4 purple, maybe 4 new survivors & 4 current survivor additions (ie new engineer primary)

This is just a personnal opinion, but I don't have much faith in Gearbox. As much as this trailer says "We want to do right by this community", they don't seem to be collaborating with the original devs who made those games what they are. I've been burnt once by Gearbox and what they did to Borderlands, I've been burnt with big publishers taking over amazing passion projects and marketing them to the ground, and I'm glad we have an option to toggle DLC content for RoR2

So, false son looks to be heavily inspired by the paladin concept that was later turned into a mod and paladin was already very reminiscent of providence, so I'm very happy that the false son is basically providence and that he looks like to be a boss and/or a playable character, I hope his mastery skin (if he really will be playable) will be a heavy reference to providence, like railgunner is basically sniper As for the future of the franchise, I'm happy ror2 is receiving more dlc, I was once opposed to this idea, but I'm starting to like it, I hope they don't introduce more brothers, it feels like a lazy way to introduce a potential ror3, if they end up doing an ror3 I want it to be new and original, providence and mythrix should end with this game As for dlc, I would like to see a red plane dlc diving further into what the imps really are and how a bleed focused survivor would look like, a heretic focused dlc would be interesting, I didn't even think of that until they mentioned it, but I don't really see a lot of threads they can pull other than that without adding stuff we didn't know before (like the existence of a third brother, that again I wouldn't really like personally), but I'm very curious to see where this goes, 1 or 2, maybe even 3 dlcs to make it a clean 5 expansions total would be interesting (I'm going more by that "5 year plan" 1 dlc every 2 years with a 3rd wrapping up ror2 neatly and maybe leaving a hint towards the future) new survivors is always what I'm mostly looking out for, also the new stages, enemies and bosses, but I'm curious how they'll balance out new items, because I doubt new item tiers will be introduced with every expansion, the future looks promising, we just got to hope that the ror team at gearbox doesn't succumb to the companies' greed
Cool ideas overall, but I don't think we specifically a bleed focused survivor. Most people already play Acrid in that style, it wouldn't make sense to make another one unless they have some special gimmick on top of the bleed playstyle.

If I'm not mistaken, it sounds like the character in the trailer is the "golem with a soul" that Providence made that got banished...but from everything we know and the lore we have, we already know that's Aurelionite...so idk lol
Aurelionite is a seperate entity, but as far as i can tell the lemurians built something in the image of providence with parts of providence, aurelionite and mithrix
One way to look at the mobile game is it will get kids interested, who will grow up to play risk of rain 2, funding more development for the game, my least favorite thing about the mobile game is that it will have random new survivors that the mobile developers think fit well into their game, that can't or just won't be added to risk of rain 2 bc they're not different enough. That being said, with the great mods for risk of rain 2 survivors from other games, they will probably be playable in some way in the future if people like the idea enough.
Idk, I'm betting they're just going to copy characters and abilities from existing mobile MOBA games. They 're not gonna care if these characters fit into the ROR world at all.
The stuff they make looks really nice, but there are these small things that bug me a tiny bit. The new maps look awesome but they feel to happy looking. Like the castle and flower map dont really give me that melancholy vibe that the usual maps gave me. Gameplay wise they look awesome and game design wise they look super neatly done and like a great addition and yet I don't feel like seeing a petrichor V biome (mostly scarce and mysterious fields which mostly have hints of structures and civilization). And the other thing is how they communicate the lore etc. I don't have anything against their style but if they just spit out everything about the lore right now, then where is all the mystery going. Their idea sounds really promising and fitting for the franchise but the style of how we perceive this said story just changed so hard from what hopoo used to do (like the community having to put all item descriptions together to grasp the story and then with the void dlc having to crack the morse code to get a sneak peak of something we cant even put a finger on. But now we already know so much about how providence kinda came back and aurelionite and mithrix being a part of it..) To put it in a nutshell, the lore and setting of the dlc is kinda ruined for me at this point, but I am still super excited for all the content. Hope they will include this spirit of mystery for the next announcements though.
About the lore I feel the same for the most part. I fear that Gearbox doesn't realize that the mystery of it all from the stages, items and enemies has been one of the biggest motivators to do new runs when new content drops out. Now they just dumped a whole storyline in a trailer and that really eats away the mystery of discovering the what and why of the lore. I hope that I'm in the wrong here but the Risk of Rain we have grown used to and hold dear might be a thing of the past.
Watching this back, I think they actually undersold how interesting the Providence Trials ended up being. Which is probably good, they were a very pleasant surprise with how varied and clever they were, but they mainly show combat ones in this trailer.

Looks cool, I hope they remain faithful to the lore that Hopoo has created. Disappointed we didn’t see any new enemies beside the boss, or even teasers, especially considering the mobile game had some unique looking ones. Mobile game is shitty, to make it gacha is so awful and unfaithful to the original games. If it wasn’t gacha it would be absolutely fine, but that alone ruins it for me. To say it has the best of RoR is an insult.

If they add a character from the previous RoR to RoR2, I want CHEF, but if they're all new survivors then maybe one based on one of the enemy types (maybe a lemurian mended by a crew member, and can summon followers to help, like gooby jr but with way more copies and have a random loadout of the items. Something like that).
If the lemurian idea, it can be simply covered in bandages or a cyborg, and the followers/copies can go the engineer route by using the same items as the player... whichever works in the game without being OP.
Honestly, if they keep the gacha and other harmful microtransactions away from ROR2 and keep them on mobile, then honestly i couldnt care less. Companies gotta make money and as long as they dont fuck up ror2, we should be happy enough.

ROR2 deserved a DLC much sooner than it got and I am very happy with the first one. If the second one is as good as SOV then it's going to be well WELL worth it. Cant wait.

While I agree that people are being overly doomer, the fear is that if the modile game makes money (doubtful), they will direct resources to that over the actual game. Also a risk that if they invest and don't get enough return they'll drop the franchise.

I’m confused on why they don’t just make risk of rain 3. Releasing dlc for a game that isn’t even on next gen is strange to me. Such an old game, what have they been doing this whole time, why dlc 2 not 2 years ago? Hell 3? It came out in 2019
My optimism is cautious. We have mobile game and hype. We have a dlc teaser, and a gacha game. We have gearbox fluff talk and a commissioned animation, and the gold-painted-dogshit standsrd of the gaming industry that exploits labor overseas and the gambling addictions of mobile whales. You can't expect me to automatically believe their word after their marketing campaign when they've already made a predictable mistake with the IP. Look. Hopoo did just give up the game after promising further support, Hopoo never released that second DLC even if Gearbox is doing it, we never saw a single new ability or skin for the existing cast like was promised, and Hopoo themselves retroactively changed their promises from "free content" to "paid content," and the character poll that gave us the Captain was objectively rigged. They were not getting votes for the Captain, and then they suddenly had downtime and the difference was insurmountable. They then released the trailer for him a few days later, leading nany to believe that they had bet on people voting for the character they already made, and forcing the hand in the poll to fake community integration. I love RoR. I love RoR2. I am excited for RoRR. I am not happy with Hopoo or Gearbox. I do not trust their DLC plans until they release or fuck it up.

If I'm not mistaken, it sounds like the character in the trailer is the "golem with a soul" that Providence made that got banished...but from everything we know and the lore we have, we already know that's Aurelionite...so idk lol
Aurelionite is a seperate entity, but as far as i can tell the lemurians built something in the image of providence with parts of providence, aurelionite and mithrix

One way to look at the mobile game is it will get kids interested, who will grow up to play risk of rain 2, funding more development for the game, my least favorite thing about the mobile game is that it will have random new survivors that the mobile developers think fit well into their game, that can't or just won't be added to risk of rain 2 bc they're not different enough. That being said, with the great mods for risk of rain 2 survivors from other games, they will probably be playable in some way in the future if people like the idea enough.

Idk, I'm betting they're just going to copy characters and abilities from existing mobile MOBA games. They 're not gonna care if these characters fit into the ROR world at all.
The stuff they make looks really nice, but there are these small things that bug me a tiny bit. The new maps look awesome but they feel to happy looking. Like the castle and flower map dont really give me that melancholy vibe that the usual maps gave me. Gameplay wise they look awesome and game design wise they look super neatly done and like a great addition and yet I don't feel like seeing a petrichor V biome (mostly scarce and mysterious fields which mostly have hints of structures and civilization).
And the other thing is how they communicate the lore etc. I don't have anything against their style but if they just spit out everything about the lore right now, then where is all the mystery going. Their idea sounds really promising and fitting for the franchise but the style of how we perceive this said story just changed so hard from what hopoo used to do (like the community having to put all item descriptions together to grasp the story and then with the void dlc having to crack the morse code to get a sneak peak of something we cant even put a finger on. But now we already know so much about how providence kinda came back and aurelionite and mithrix being a part of it..)
To put it in a nutshell, the lore and setting of the dlc is kinda ruined for me at this point, but I am still super excited for all the content. Hope they will include this spirit of mystery for the next announcements though.
About the lore I feel the same for the most part. I fear that Gearbox doesn't realize that the mystery of it all from the stages, items and enemies has been one of the biggest motivators to do new runs when new content drops out. Now they just dumped a whole storyline in a trailer and that really eats away the mystery of discovering the what and why of the lore. I hope that I'm in the wrong here but the Risk of Rain we have grown used to and hold dear might be a thing of the past.

Watching this back, I think they actually undersold how interesting the Providence Trials ended up being. Which is probably good, they were a very pleasant surprise with how varied and clever they were, but they mainly show combat ones in this trailer.

Mobile game is shitty, to make it gacha is so awful and unfaithful to the original games. If it wasn’t gacha it would be absolutely fine, but that alone ruins it for me. To say it has the best of RoR is an insult.

If they add a character from the previous RoR to RoR2, I want CHEF, but if they're all new survivors then maybe one based on one of the enemy types (maybe a lemurian mended by a crew member, and can summon followers to help, like gooby jr but with way more copies and have a random loadout of the items. Something like that).
If the lemurian idea, it can be simply covered in bandages or a cyborg, and the followers/copies can go the engineer route by using the same items as the player... whichever works in the game without being OP.

While I agree that people are being overly doomer, the fear is that if the modile game makes money (doubtful), they will direct resources to that over the actual game. Also a risk that if they invest and don't get enough return they'll drop the franchise.

I’m confused on why they don’t just make risk of rain 3. Releasing dlc for a game that isn’t even on next gen is strange to me. Such an old game, what have they been doing this whole time, why dlc 2 not 2 years ago? Hell 3? It came out in 2019
My optimism is cautious. We have mobile game and hype. We have a dlc teaser, and a gacha game. We have gearbox fluff talk and a commissioned animation, and the gold-painted-dogshit standsrd of the gaming industry that exploits labor overseas and the gambling addictions of mobile whales.
You can't expect me to automatically believe their word after their marketing campaign when they've already made a predictable mistake with the IP.
Look. Hopoo did just give up the game after promising further support, Hopoo never released that second DLC even if Gearbox is doing it, we never saw a single new ability or skin for the existing cast like was promised, and Hopoo themselves retroactively changed their promises from "free content" to "paid content," and the character poll that gave us the Captain was objectively rigged. They were not getting votes for the Captain, and then they suddenly had downtime and the difference was insurmountable. They then released the trailer for him a few days later, leading nany to believe that they had bet on people voting for the character they already made, and forcing the hand in the poll to fake community integration.
I love RoR. I love RoR2. I am excited for RoRR. I am not happy with Hopoo or Gearbox. I do not trust their DLC plans until they release or fuck it up.
