There is just something so 'haunting' about an abandoned railway station. You just wouldn't get that with an abandoned bus station or motorway service station.
Hertingfordbury Station i used to walk past every day to work and regularly shopping into Hertford town. The line used to run from Hertford North to Hatfield with 2 village stations in between, the other was Cole Green near to where i lived for 5 years in the 1970s. It was a private residence even then. Sadly the buildings at Cole Green were demolished, could also have remained as a house, no vision, such waste. It was, and still is, a beautiful walk through the Hertfordshire countryside. Got a few abandoned railway walks here in Hampshire where i moved to.
this shouldn't be happening closing stations it saddens to see what was once a working station. one opened in 1903 closed 49 years later not very long most ends up as car parks we need railways especially for rural areas
There needs to a public transport solution to rural lines but the solution isn’t to automatically reopen a Victorian railway at great cost but to look at all the options. A guaranteed, frequent and inexpensive bus service may be the way forward and it will be a lot cheaper than a heavy railway solution. Trams are another option.
@@22pcirish Supposedly, but some were "duplicate" for a good reason. Also, you could seperate passenger and freight traffic, but that would need management.
@@TrainsTrainsTrains Yes, but all the others featured are on closed lines, Fort William is still very much alive and is only a stone throw from the old station, so its not realy abandoned, and is very much the better station than the old one, so a bit strange you included it. You could fill a very lengthy video of places that the station has been moved slightly along the line a bit, esecialy when it makes a better station.
Here in new Zealand,in christchurch our main station was close to the city centre, now it's out in the suburbs where the railway workshops were.it was haunting when the station was void of it's rails, a branch line station void of it's track,now a museum..sad to look at
Always good to see the ones that have survived as private houses.

Yes, indeed. And I love the last one which was converted into a home.

Hey - Hertingfordbury is only about 15 miles north of where I live in N London! 😎
As well as I like the video I also like the tunes for this video - does this music have a name? Can I download it?
@3:25 that's a mouthful
Sad. How do you get around in the U.K. ?
The Beeching report planned the removal of a lot of duplicate lines.
