Sennheiser for the win for me, not only because of the monstrous 60hrs battery and the other quirky features but the way they sound, they feel more lively and airy to your ears when compared to Sony. And personally for me sound quality comes over anything when I’m paying a flagship amount and that’s where Sennheiser has truly nailed it.
Yes, I agree, as well, Sennheiser's momentum 4 sound quality is just fantastic! Sony? It's Good, but lags behind Sennheiser Momentum 4 in this respect...
How much larger are the Earpads of the momentum 4 compared to the sony xm5? I found the XM5's to be on ear and very small and not a lot of room inside the ear cup. I did test the accentum plus wich was more comfortable to me and slightly more over ear than the xm5's but I have not had the chance to put on the Momentum 4's.
I`ve only found one very good solution for clearing up the slightly disappointing "tinny sound" in the XM5`s: load in the Harman-tuned profile for the XM5`s in the Wavelet app and use that app to add any EQ-settings on top of that new Harman baseline. It seems Wavelet does EQ more advanced and better than the Sony Headphones-app. The harman-tuned EQ-profile for the XM5`s really takes the XM5`s to nearly it`s full potential and certainly takes it much closer to the Momentum 4`s than from original settings/out of the box. But I suspect the Momentum 4`s are slightly better in the sound-department still, even after optimizing the XM5`s via Wavelet. And the sound department is the most important department. But the XM5`s are very satisfying to listen to as they are now, using Wavelet for all EQ. There are no obvious flaws, just a clear, ever so slightly warm soundstage.
Yeah, I agree. You have to load in the Harman-tuned profile for the XM5s in the Wavelet-app. That profile clears up the sound, much much more so than any EQ-settings from TH-cam that I tried in the Sony headphones-app. That Wavelet-profile made me go from thinking these headphones are kind of disappointing to "oh yes, this is the good stuff."

how’s the noise cancelling? I like the senny’s sound way more (own wired ones myself) but I’m buying wireless more for lightweight and noise cancelling first and foremost (2 hour bus commute both ways)
I have been extremely happy with the momentum for AND. It’s super long life battery was a big reason that drew me to them… Sound is outstanding, and never a problem with connecting to iPhone or my computer… Also got a great deal on eBay, so could not be happier. they are extremely comfortable and controls a very logical set up… So far I would give them a 10 out of 10. 15:43
To everyone out there - I have tested both for two weeks - but let me tell you - if you like the fit of Momentum 4 and don‘t find them uncomfortable - you really don‘t want the XM5 - the sound quality is just a different league on the Sennheisers.

ANC is where Sony XM5s beat the Momentum 4. ANC on Momentum 4, really does a poor job of being consistent, and you will notice the ANC drop out a lot and noises that should be muffled are not as muffled as they should be.
Well, with the battery life, sound quality, and connection possibilities for the Seenheiser Momentum 4s, they've got me! You can do Bluetooth, audio 3.5MM, and USB on computer (which Sony doesn't have). Plus their 60-hour battery life, that has indeed won me over.
@@kennykhoo1689 I never used their case, I just use the headphones and pack them up in my bag or wearing on my neck, so I don't know if they can turn auto on. Sorry.

Cap, the M4s sound sooo much better than the XM5s that I had to return mine, I'm an audio engineer and the XM5s are not detailed at all, they're tinny, miss punch and have a more mainstream tunning which can be fatiguing. The M4s have bigger drivers, a way bigger battery (thus the weight) and better quality bass extension and definition. They lack in mids but you can EQ those, which is important since hardware limitations make the XM5s impossible to deliver the same bass as the M4s. Vocals are way better on the M4s too. If you don't care about ANC and listening to music is your focus, the M4s are the superior (and cheaper) option, technically speaking
Another game changer for me that nobody mentions is the fact that you can use the M4 with the USB cable (listening and microphone). In addition to the better sound... ;)

Just bought Senneihser Momentum 4 at US Dollar 250. I don't need Noise Cancelling feature much as I listen music at my apartment mostly in night during my studies. So my prefences are good Sound quality, long battery life and comfort ; that's why I have choosen Senny Momentum 4 ( Black Colour). An attractive price of US Dollar 250 triggers me to buy immediately. Being a music learner I am a happy guy now 😊.
A friend owner of an "audio specialized shop and services" told me that the sony break a lot more. And sony after sale services are not responsive. I think this is something we never hear about but is so important.
I have Then Senn M4 and previous version of the Sonys. I've kept the sonys, but the sound quality difference is light and day. The Sennheiser are so much better, but the Sony have better ANC especially if you are using them on london underground, only real wish is that the Senn M4 aren't quite loud enough in general

This is the only review I have seen that says Sony is more clear than the sennheiser. The Sonys are very veiled and muddy sounding to me compared to my momentum 4s. I guess everyone hears differently.
I'm not in anyway shape or form an audiophile I keep hearing people say that the Sennheiser's have richer sound but other say when tuned the Xm5's sound amazing so I'm deciding between these two pairs I'm mainly gonna be using them for music what pair should I get?
@denikhalikov5178 yeah I saw a sound test and they have slightly fuller sound but can't get high and low tones like the mx5s it's like everything has its pros and cons
@@Kvvz_ yeah i have the xm4, got the xm5 two weeks (theyr were only 220 at a discount!!!) ago too, sennheiser is just still much better and also my ears arent touching the inside of the cups the xm5s are a bit lighter and more fun looking though and have some really cool features but as far as sound quality goes especially with sennheisers custom sound edit, they sound sooo much better Although the xm5 with also adjusted eq can get really good, i just like the sennheiser sound more tbh
The Sonys are more comfy and have better noise canceling. The sennys look more premium and appear to have an edge in sound quality. This is my current thinking.
I bought Sony. Sehnheiser may sound a bit better but you can EQ Sony to get the same sound. Sehnheiser has small earcups and stronger clumping force which make it very uncomfortable. The ANC in Sehnheiser is also not as good as Sony
After seeing many reviews i think you are right. I know the EQ app allows you to test out which profile fits better and you can then put that on and it will make them rise to the occasion whether it be music or a podcast. The xm5s are very comfy but do appear cheaper/plastic feel compres to sennys. The ANC goes to sony - 8 mics, and so does the microphone. Sennys perhaps does have slightly better sounds quality though.
My experience says that Momentum 4 is way better sound quality. My Momentum 4 is broken, so i decided to buy the Sony because most reviews says it's the best 🤦🏻 and now i regret 😔😔
@johnbravo7689 the ear cup was like fake leather jacket, scratch very fast, The material was low quality, but the sound was really high quality and the Bass was Wow i have now sony i like the build quality and the sound, But momentum was special, but unfortunately not good build quality as the sony.

I am a crazy audio lover and i own them both including high end audio gear which costs like 1500 Dollars I should say with my tests, Sennheiser is 3x better in sound quality and 2x better in battery life As for noise cancellation, Sony is way better but i dont use that feature since my usage environment is pretty silent Happy Audio Life People !
I’ve narrowed it down to these 2 and im going to be using whichever one I pick 24/7 in classes and on public transport and for games,movies,music,music production and I’m just not sure which one to get
Momentum 4's are an exceptional better sounding device... Descriptive words and expression cannot replace the actual sound of the Sony sound signature..
Sennheiser for me. I like listening and completely submerge into the music or podcast. The transparency mode accordingly your video and number of other reviewer seems to suggest an completely block out noises. And with mildly better sound quality, that's a win for me. And after using Sennheiser for over 15 years, I have my biases. Having said that, it appears XM5 is actually the better overall use headphones. So I agree with your comment, it all depends on our individual use cases, preferences and 'biases'. =)
The Sennheiser Momentum 4 headphones offer excellent audio quality for music. However, they may not be the best choice for video calls or meetings, particularly in an open office environment, as the microphone tends to pick up surrounding noises, including conversations from colleagues. Additionally, they are not suitable for sports activities due to overheating issues. It would be beneficial for Sennheiser to consider reintroducing physical buttons for volume and other controls.
I’ve been looking for a new pair of headphones. I waited years for Sonos to make a set. I bought them. 6 days later I am returning. They’re good but not worth that $449. I found the momentum 4 on sale at Best Buy for $289. That was a no brainer. Should have them in a few days but from what I have been watching review wise, I don’t think I’ll be disappointed. How are they 3 months later? I’m buying my first pair of over ear headphones (I’ve had AirPods since I was in middle school, I just graduated high school) and now as a college kid I want some good over ear headphones that have good bass and sound amazing. I bought some Skullcandy Crusher ANC 2 and I feel their ANC is pretty bad. The bass is insane but the sound quality and the loudness of the audio is kinda disappointing for such bass-y headphones. I’ve been looking into M4s though because everyone says they’re amazing.
anc is not important for me, i will mostly listen it at home. the most important thing for me is Loudly Bass. İ listen vocal trance and Techno. so Momentum4 has less loudy then XM5 and M4 has not a strong bass when compated with Sony xm5? Do you agree with me to focused to XM5 for vocal trance and techno songs? What is your opinion? i will select one to buy. but i could not have decided yet....
My take on momentum 4, if you don't care about comfort go for it for the sound quality however if comfort is your priority, you will remove the headphone in just a few minutes of listening, it's so irritating
I have a problem with headphones pressing too much against my ears especially when I'm sitting in front of the Mac wearing my glasses. In the past months, I've sent back Solo Beats 4 and Apple Air Pad Pro they were not only tight..they weigh 380g So, now, I can't decide between, the Sonys here, the Momentum, Bose QC 45 ,and the B&W PX7 S2 Sound is of course important...but it's not worth it when your ears hurt after a couple of hours. Is there a comfortable headphone?
i have the momentum and Sony XM5. The momentum is more comfortable to wear as it distributes the weight better. The Sony XM5 is lighter but it creates a hot spot on head and it's not that comfortable. If you do want to take the Sony's. XM4 is more comfortable than XM5.
im still concerned about choosing which color for my senheiser. I like the white color but I'm afraid it will be discolored in the future. Any suggestions? thank you
Have momentum 4s, almost 2 years now, have just had to put it in under warranty as manual on/off / Bluetooth connect button has started to fault. Great audio quality and battery life though.
Trying to decide between these two and I am ever so slightly leaning towards the Senn M4s (but not yet pulled the trigger). This is the best review of these that I've watched (congrats guys), and on all mic tests across reviews, Senns sound best to me: crisper, clearer - yet here and on other reviews, reviewers state "XM5 slightly better on mics". Don't get it. However the XM5s are also bulbous in appearance, and I already get "Princess Leia" comments(!) with my Anker Q45s (which become uncomfortable after 30 mins)
Bro I'm very disappointed in your style of review... You can't come into a review being biased... When you run comparison test you do them the same equally across the board. You were very different with XM5 versus the M4 in the street... The Sony did not sound better.... You tried so hard to overshadow and convince us... Very underwhelmed...
SONY better noise cancellation so better for outside / daily transportation. Sennheiser better sound nut lowest noise reduction so better at home or les impacted by noise environnements / occasional use outside. So depend the way you live by.
To be a long term user of XM5 , mine broke already, the memory foam is bad also they make clicking noise and I deactivated touch, cause it keeps clicking randomly. I'm trying to find a better one

Both, I bought a Sennheiser Momentum 4. INSTANTLY sold it, it sounds bad and weird. Bought xm5s and its super high quality, if you want to use it plugged and want anc you have to turn it on but you can use it without plugging it in, though it works and gives better quality on bluetooth.

Im a guy of simple taste, Im looking for a pair of great headphones with very good sound quality and I personally don’t need the ANC thing in today’s headphones… that said, I enjoy wired headphones mostly because I use my iPdo classic and for editing videos so wored connectivity is the best option. I can’t believe Sennheiser made a headphone worthless if used with usb-c to usb-c audio cable for hi-res audio and many other yt’s have stated that the wired sound quality is weird even if the headphones are turned off, which is nuts taking into considerarion today’s technology! Why would a pair of headphones would need to be ON when one just needs to use them wired? Doesn’t the wired cable senda enough energy for them to be used like headphones used to do decades back? I’m getting tired of all this ANC and batterylife and nonsense BS! Things could be much better and simple!
@@chev3893 if you use the Sony in Bluetooth mode, you can edit the sound with the Sony app if the music source comes from the same device, which significantly improves the sound. If the Sony is operated with a cable, the app is not available because cable and Bluetooth connections cannot be used at the same time. Therefore, the sound quality is different for cable and Bluetooth connections.
I have both and he’s right. I’ll have to give it to the Sony. The Senny has better sound quality but Sony has the better soundstage IMO. The Senny has a 2d soundstage so it is definitely wider than the Sony’s but Sony’s soundstage feel 3d ish which makes the music immersive. The Senny has the better bass though. One thing I didn’t like about the Sennheiser was the overemphasis on the treble. It sometimes gets too harsh above 60% and makes some songs sound unpleasant.
I also have one , the Sennheiser Momentum 4s , I'm selling them in Delhi for 20,000 on olx ( bought of 26,000 ) , they are great but I bought some open ear headphones thus selling mine, they are great for travellors, but I am like super alone at my home all the time , thus decided to sell it
I am in the market for new headphones since my XM5s broke down at the swivel, something I unfortunately found to be a massive weakness based on numerous experiences I ran into once it happened to me too. So, now, I am somewhere between Momentum 4 and Bose Ultra. I would jump to Bose if their mic was better (rather than perhaps the weakest part)
Just saw reviews, and Sonny XM5 seemed better than Sennheiser, but the XM4 had better bass and was overall better despite less sleek. So, at $248 I got the XM4. *Note my MDRXB950BT won't charge anymore but those we're awesome and a classic. So I feel good XM4 is the successor
5:08 if those are real and recorded from headphones speakers, damn, SM4 is like 100% sound, XM5 is 70% and it's very muffle. Especially last track, XM5 sounds like they were dumped into metal can
Have both QC Ultra and Momentum 4. Hate to bring the news as there is a trend hating anything from Bose but the QC is above all in terms of sound. It is the most pleasant and listenable of them all. Hard to describe it but it's a kind of fulsome, rounded, very well judged. And the ANC, oh boy, Momentum doesn't hold a candle. It's so eerie. I like the Momentum as well but QC is just better
@robbenvanpersie1562 go for Bose. I suggest looking out for the previous, Quiet Comfort (without Ultra in the name). There are still some on stock. Ultra extra feature is the spatial sound which honestly i didn't care much for. Bose sounds signature is better judged, more pleasant, bass is awesome but not bothering. They are endlessly listenable. They also shine at very low volume levels with clarity and bass which is very rare. The ANC is also world class, simply the best. The excellent ANC also helps protecting your hearing as you don't need to raise the volume in noisy environments. I don't care about EQ, I just keep them in standard mode, it is that good. Of course you can play with it. Don't worry about sound measuring tests, they never tell the whole story. Let your ears judge as I do. I also own a proper hifi stereo system, quite expensive. Yes, the M4 has that great battery life but my guess is you don't live off the grid, so it wasn't important to me, 24 hrs is sufficient. I also have the Bose QC Earbuds II and found them in some ways better, considering the size. Comfort and sound quality is the same top shelf
@robbenvanpersie1562 forgot to mention, the Awareness mode in QC is also amazing, it allows you hearing the surroundings very well without compromising the sound quality and maintaining clarity
Caleb over at Digital Trends liked the momentum much better than the XM5, shows the difference in opinion from person to person. PX8 Vs Bathys is a great example at the top. some prefer the Bowers, some prefer the Focal.
I have the XM5's, but sadly they give me a bad allergic reaction where my ears get exema. I have even tried different earpads, but still no solution. Never had that problem with the XM4's, which I stopped using because one of the hinges broke. Just ordered the Momentum 4's at a reasonable price, so I really hope they won't give me the same problem as the XM5's.
I didn’t try Momentum, but I tried Sony XM5 headphones. On google it says its worlds 2nd best headphones. My expectations were so high. When I played music it was sounding like a normal headphone(Without any EQ customisation). Even my Oppo Enco Air 3 pro sounds better this. This is might because of no EQ customisation.
Give get the Henn because that battery life is insane and people say the sound quality is slightly better. I hate ANC so I would exclusively use Transparency Mode anyway.

Too many caveats with your recommendation. Also, the headphone testing by the roadside was not adequate at giving viewers a comprehensive back & forth comparison of just the ANC function. You cycled through the modes and went from transparent to NC. ANC performance is the critical criterion for many or most buyers of an ANC headphone so please expand the isolated comparison of this function.
I have these two devices in me both gift from my relatives. I enjoy sennheiser M4 More and there's a lot of cool stuff and the quality of both devices are great but Sennheiser is feels more durable than XM5
My XM4’s failed 1 year outside warranty. Rather than repair them Sony offered me a discount on some XM5’s. the band on these XM5’s split within warranty but sony wont repair within the warranty. They’ve again offered me a discount on another pair of XM5’s. pretty disappointed so i think i’ll sell the Sonys as they are and try another brand
I had a weird experience with Sony headphones. I bought the XM3’s and my cheap AliExpress Bludio headphones sounded better. I just bought the Sennheiser’s I hope I am blown away
I will end up picking the Sennheiser momentum 4. For whatever reason the XM5 here are ridiculously expensive, even more so than the BOSE QC Ultra. Coming in at 510e (with a discount) and 620e full price (tax/shipping included) which is really really bad. The Sennheiser momentum 4 on the other hand cost 270e (with a discount) or 370e (full price) with tax/shipping included. So with that price comparison I can almost buy 2 momentums for the price of one xm5 and I doubt its double the quality....

I just ordered a pair of M4's for $299 in Canada, the XM5's are currently $398 here. If the Sony "sounded $100 better" I would gladly pay the extra money, but I'm getting the impression they don't.
Sennheiser HD-599 Is better than the Sennheiser Momentum 4 for less money if one doesn't mind the Cord and doesn't care about noise cancellation. The HD-599 Has sub bass and more natural sound for movies and they're more comfortable than the Momentum. However if one listens to SiruXM Radio the Momentum is better for upper bass. The HD-599 are more purists sounding. So for Home use the HD-599 is better for portable the Momentum is better
@@BBYbaka As someone who owned the XM4 , the QC 45 and the QC : ANC on the Sennheiser momentum 4 is very good and enough to cut down A TON of noise. Do I wish it could be Bose level? yes! However, the sound quality will make you forget the slightly lower ANC. at First coming from Bose I was not impressed , but once I played the music , the magic happened.

Amazing review everything explained with clarity i went with the XM5'S in the blue color and love the desing of it i love the sound quality of the sony and how comfortable the earcups feel like pollows gently clamping your head ive used my XM5'S in my home with my parrots and they did a very good job to minimize the chirps they did so far i have enjoyed them and they ticked all my boxes i prefer touch controls over physical buttons

I`ve only found one very good solution for clearing up the slightly disappointing "tinny sound" in the XM5`s: load in the Harman-tuned profile for the XM5`s in the Wavelet app and use that app to add any EQ-settings on top of that new Harman baseline. It seems Wavelet does EQ more advanced and better than the Sony Headphones-app. The harman-tuned EQ-profile for the XM5`s really takes the XM5`s to nearly it`s full potential and certainly takes it much closer to the Momentum 4`s than from original settings/out of the box. But I suspect the Momentum 4`s are slightly better in the sound-department still, even after optimizing the XM5`s via Wavelet. And the sound department is the most important department. But the XM5`s are very satisfying to listen to as they are now, using Wavelet for all EQ. There are no obvious flaws, just a clear, ever so slightly warm soundstage.
The XM5s sound a bit tinny, which is what I noticed when I tried them in the Sony store. I went for the Sennys and I’m glad I did.
Yeah, I agree. You have to load in the Harman-tuned profile for the XM5s in the Wavelet-app. That profile clears up the sound, much much more so than any EQ-settings from TH-cam that I tried in the Sony headphones-app. That Wavelet-profile made me go from thinking these headphones are kind of disappointing to "oh yes, this is the good stuff."

how’s the noise cancelling? I like the senny’s sound way more (own wired ones myself) but I’m buying wireless more for lightweight and noise cancelling first and foremost (2 hour bus commute both ways)

I have been extremely happy with the momentum for AND. It’s super long life battery was a big reason that drew me to them… Sound is outstanding, and never a problem with connecting to iPhone or my computer… Also got a great deal on eBay, so could not be happier. they are extremely comfortable and controls a very logical set up… So far I would give them a 10 out of 10. 15:43
To everyone out there - I have tested both for two weeks - but let me tell you - if you like the fit of Momentum 4 and don‘t find them uncomfortable - you really don‘t want the XM5 - the sound quality is just a different league on the Sennheisers.

ANC is where Sony XM5s beat the Momentum 4.
ANC on Momentum 4, really does a poor job of being consistent, and you will notice the ANC drop out a lot and noises that should be muffled are not as muffled as they should be.

Well, with the battery life, sound quality, and connection possibilities for the Seenheiser Momentum 4s, they've got me! You can do Bluetooth, audio 3.5MM, and USB on computer (which Sony doesn't have). Plus their 60-hour battery life, that has indeed won me over.

Cap, the M4s sound sooo much better than the XM5s that I had to return mine, I'm an audio engineer and the XM5s are not detailed at all, they're tinny, miss punch and have a more mainstream tunning which can be fatiguing. The M4s have bigger drivers, a way bigger battery (thus the weight) and better quality bass extension and definition. They lack in mids but you can EQ those, which is important since hardware limitations make the XM5s impossible to deliver the same bass as the M4s. Vocals are way better on the M4s too. If you don't care about ANC and listening to music is your focus, the M4s are the superior (and cheaper) option, technically speaking

2) Sony XM5 release date May 2022 MSRP $399.99 and Bose QC Ultra release date October 2023 MSRP $429. aka release date (age) and original pricing.
3) 2024 Holiday sale XM5 $299 and QC Ultra $329 both dropping $100. affordability as Sony XM5 should be discounted more because it is a year older than Bose QC Ultra.

I own 2 sets of Momentum 4 headphones. Purchased Bose QC Ultra during this holiday period for trial/comparison for the last 3 weeks. Will be returning the QC Ultra because paying $100 more to get slightly better ANC and immersion/larger stage presence which don't really occur just not worth the money. Yes! ears get warmer with M4 but it compensates for individuals who wear eye glasses as in for comfort.
Had gone to the Sony website and purchased the XM5. I really was tempted to evaluate the XM5 and compare them to the M4 and QC Ultra.
A few hours later, it dawned on me I made a mistake, therefore I cancelled my order. After numerous review, TH-cam videos, reading comment, going to Reddit, forums, Amazon, Best Buy,
and other sites that have reviewed the XM5. I knew the XM5 have fallen behind and quietly bowed down to Bose QC Ultra and Sennheiser M4 for being better.
You listen to different genre of music for pleasure as quality of audio makes it nice to listen to. As for BT headphones in this mid-level competition, the M4 has not been beaten or won over yet

Momentum 4 do not have LDAC codec, neither does the BOSE QC Ultra.
However, Sony has LDAC but no aptX Adaptive or aptX Low Latency and no Snapdragon.
The Bose QC (non-Ultra) are bit more comfortable than the newer QC Ultra, plus the QC (non-Ultra) have nice physical button controls. Only the Ultra has the Snapdragon codec which is an improvement over the QC non-Ultra. Sennheiser M4 do have Snapdragon 888 capability which makes pairing with Android phones made since 2021 more compatible and better to connect to.
Last, none of the above mentioned have ipx4 Waterproof certification. Please keep your headphones dry, remove any condensation, moisture, water, and Sweat. Best to wear indoors and Low Humidity. Not for wear for any physical exercise as get Ear Buds instead.
Just bought Senneihser Momentum 4 at US Dollar 250. I don't need Noise Cancelling feature much as I listen music at my apartment mostly in night during my studies. So my prefences are good Sound quality, long battery life and comfort ; that's why I have choosen Senny Momentum 4 ( Black Colour). An attractive price of US Dollar 250 triggers me to buy immediately. Being a music learner I am a happy guy now 😊.
A friend owner of an "audio specialized shop and services" told me that the sony break a lot more. And sony after sale services are not responsive. I think this is something we never hear about but is so important.
I have Then Senn M4 and previous version of the Sonys. I've kept the sonys, but the sound quality difference is light and day. The Sennheiser are so much better, but the Sony have better ANC especially if you are using them on london underground, only real wish is that the Senn M4 aren't quite loud enough in general

This is the only review I have seen that says Sony is more clear than the sennheiser. The Sonys are very veiled and muddy sounding to me compared to my momentum 4s. I guess everyone hears differently.

The Sonys are more comfy and have better noise canceling. The sennys look more premium and appear to have an edge in sound quality. This is my current thinking.

I bought Sony. Sehnheiser may sound a bit better but you can EQ Sony to get the same sound. Sehnheiser has small earcups and stronger clumping force which make it very uncomfortable. The ANC in Sehnheiser is also not as good as Sony

After seeing many reviews i think you are right. I know the EQ app allows you to test out which profile fits better and you can then put that on and it will make them rise to the occasion whether it be music or a podcast. The xm5s are very comfy but do appear cheaper/plastic feel compres to sennys. The ANC goes to sony - 8 mics, and so does the microphone. Sennys perhaps does have slightly better sounds quality though.
My experience says that Momentum 4 is way better sound quality.
My Momentum 4 is broken, so i decided to buy the Sony because most reviews says it's the best 🤦🏻 and now i regret 😔😔

Momentum 4's are an exceptional better sounding device... Descriptive words and expression cannot replace the actual sound of the Sony sound signature..
Sennheiser for me. I like listening and completely submerge into the music or podcast. The transparency mode accordingly your video and number of other reviewer seems to suggest an completely block out noises. And with mildly better sound quality, that's a win for me. And after using Sennheiser for over 15 years, I have my biases.
Having said that, it appears XM5 is actually the better overall use headphones. So I agree with your comment, it all depends on our individual use cases, preferences and 'biases'. =)
The Sennheiser Momentum 4 headphones offer excellent audio quality for music. However, they may not be the best choice for video calls or meetings, particularly in an open office environment, as the microphone tends to pick up surrounding noises, including conversations from colleagues. Additionally, they are not suitable for sports activities due to overheating issues. It would be beneficial for Sennheiser to consider reintroducing physical buttons for volume and other controls.
I’ve been looking for a new pair of headphones. I waited years for Sonos to make a set. I bought them. 6 days later I am returning. They’re good but not worth that $449. I found the momentum 4 on sale at Best Buy for $289. That was a no brainer. Should have them in a few days but from what I have been watching review wise, I don’t think I’ll be disappointed. How are they 3 months later? I’m buying my first pair of over ear headphones (I’ve had AirPods since I was in middle school, I just graduated high school) and now as a college kid I want some good over ear headphones that have good bass and sound amazing. I bought some Skullcandy Crusher ANC 2 and I feel their ANC is pretty bad. The bass is insane but the sound quality and the loudness of the audio is kinda disappointing for such bass-y headphones. I’ve been looking into M4s though because everyone says they’re amazing.
anc is not important for me, i will mostly listen it at home. the most important thing for me is Loudly Bass. İ listen vocal trance and Techno. so Momentum4 has less loudy then XM5 and M4 has not a strong bass when compated with Sony xm5? My take on momentum 4, if you don't care about comfort go for it for the sound quality however if comfort is your priority, you will remove the headphone in just a few minutes of listening, it's so irritating

I have a problem with headphones pressing too much against my ears especially when I'm sitting in front of the Mac wearing my glasses. In the past months, I've sent back Solo Beats 4 and Apple Air Pad Pro they were not only tight..they weigh 380g
So, now, I can't decide between, the Sonys here, the Momentum, Bose QC 45 ,and the B&W PX7 S2
Sound is of course important...but it's not worth it when your ears hurt after a couple of hours.

i have the momentum and Sony XM5. The momentum is more comfortable to wear as it distributes the weight better. The Sony XM5 is lighter but it creates a hot spot on head and it's not that comfortable. If you do want to take the Sony's. XM4 is more comfortable than XM5.

My old soundcore Q30’s are way louder than my brand new momentum 4’s. Are they just not loud or did I get a defective pair?
Have momentum 4s, almost 2 years now, have just had to put it in under warranty as manual on/off / Bluetooth connect button has started to fault. Great audio quality and battery life though.
Trying to decide between these two and I am ever so slightly leaning towards the Senn M4s (but not yet pulled the trigger). This is the best review of these that I've watched (congrats guys), and on all mic tests across reviews, Senns sound best to me: crisper, clearer - yet here and on other reviews, reviewers state "XM5 slightly better on mics". Don't get it. However the XM5s are also bulbous in appearance, and I already get "Princess Leia" comments(!) with my Anker Q45s (which become uncomfortable after 30 mins)
Bro I'm very disappointed in your style of review... You can't come into a review being biased... When you run comparison test you do them the same equally across the board. You were very different with XM5 versus the M4 in the street... The Sony did not sound better.... You tried so hard to overshadow and convince us... Very underwhelmed...

To be a long term user of XM5 , mine broke already, the memory foam is bad also they make clicking noise and I deactivated touch, cause it keeps clicking randomly. I'm trying to find a better one

INSTANTLY sold it, it sounds bad and weird.
Bought xm5s and its super high quality, if you want to use it plugged and want anc you have to turn it on but you can use it without plugging it in, though it works and gives better quality on bluetooth.

Why would a pair of headphones would need to be ON when one just needs to use them wired? Doesn’t the wired cable senda enough energy for them to be used like headphones used to do decades back? @@chev3893 if you use the Sony in Bluetooth mode, you can edit the sound with the Sony app if the music source comes from the same device, which significantly improves the sound. If the Sony is operated with a cable, the app is not available because cable and Bluetooth connections cannot be used at the same time. Therefore, the sound quality is different for cable and Bluetooth connections.
I have both and he’s right. I’ll have to give it to the Sony. The Senny has better sound quality but Sony has the better soundstage IMO. The Senny has a 2d soundstage so it is definitely wider than the Sony’s but Sony’s soundstage feel 3d ish which makes the music immersive. The Senny has the better bass though. One thing I didn’t like about the Sennheiser was the overemphasis on the treble. It sometimes gets too harsh above 60% and makes some songs sound unpleasant.

I am in the market for new headphones since my XM5s broke down at the swivel, something I unfortunately found to be a massive weakness based on numerous experiences I ran into once it happened to me too. So, now, I am somewhere between Momentum 4 and Bose Ultra. I would jump to Bose if their mic was better (rather than perhaps the weakest part)
Just saw reviews, and Sonny XM5 seemed better than Sennheiser, but the XM4 had better bass and was overall better despite less sleek. So, at $248 I got the XM4. *Note my MDRXB950BT won't charge anymore but those we're awesome and a classic. So I feel good XM4 is the successor

Have both QC Ultra and Momentum 4. Hate to bring the news as there is a trend hating anything from Bose but the QC is above all in terms of sound. It is the most pleasant and listenable of them all. Hard to describe it but it's a kind of fulsome, rounded, very well judged.
And the ANC, oh boy, Momentum doesn't hold a candle. It's so eerie.

I suggest looking out for the previous, Quiet Comfort (without Ultra in the name). There are still some on stock.
Ultra extra feature is the spatial sound which honestly i didn't care much for.
Bose sounds signature is better judged, more pleasant, bass is awesome but not bothering.
They are endlessly listenable. They also shine at very low volume levels with clarity and bass which is very rare. The ANC is also world class, simply the best.
The excellent ANC also helps protecting your hearing as you don't need to raise the volume in noisy environments.
I don't care about EQ, I just keep them in standard mode, it is that good. Of course you can play with it.
Don't worry about sound measuring tests, they never tell the whole story. Let your ears judge as I do. I also own a proper hifi stereo system, quite expensive.
Yes, the M4 has that great battery life but my guess is you don't live off the grid, so it wasn't important to me, 24 hrs is sufficient.
I also have the Bose QC Earbuds II and found them in some ways better, considering the size. Comfort and sound quality is the same top shelf

Caleb over at Digital Trends liked the momentum much better than the XM5, shows the difference in opinion from person to person. PX8 Vs Bathys is a great example at the top. some prefer the Bowers, some prefer the Focal.

I have the XM5's, but sadly they give me a bad allergic reaction where my ears get exema. I have even tried different earpads, but still no solution. Never had that problem with the XM4's, which I stopped using because one of the hinges broke. Just ordered the Momentum 4's at a reasonable price, so I really hope they won't give me the same problem as the XM5's.

I didn’t try Momentum, but I tried Sony XM5 headphones. On google it says its worlds 2nd best headphones. My expectations were so high. When I played music it was sounding like a normal headphone(Without any EQ customisation). Even my Oppo Enco Air 3 pro sounds better this. This is might because of no EQ customisation.
you're expecting too much from a Bluetooth pair of headphones. If you want to be amazed by sound - go wired.
Give get the Henn because that battery life is insane and people say the sound quality is slightly better. I hate ANC so I would exclusively use Transparency Mode anyway.

Too many caveats with your recommendation. Also, the headphone testing by the roadside was not adequate at giving viewers a comprehensive back & forth comparison of just the ANC function. You cycled through the modes and went from transparent to NC. ANC performance is the critical criterion for many or most buyers of an ANC headphone so please expand the isolated comparison of this function.

With the Momentum 4, the volume is not quite balanced. One side is slightly louder than the other. You can hear it a little, especially with voices.
I have these two devices in me both gift from my relatives. I enjoy sennheiser M4 More and there's a lot of cool stuff and the quality of both devices are great but Sennheiser is feels more durable than XM5

My XM4’s failed 1 year outside warranty. Rather than repair them Sony offered me a discount on some XM5’s. the band on these XM5’s split within warranty but sony wont repair within the warranty. They’ve again offered me a discount on another pair of XM5’s. pretty disappointed so i think i’ll sell the Sonys as they are and try another brand
I had a weird experience with Sony headphones. I bought the XM3’s and my cheap AliExpress Bludio headphones sounded better. I just bought the Sennheiser’s I hope I am blown away

I will end up picking the Sennheiser momentum 4. For whatever reason the XM5 here are ridiculously expensive, even more so than the BOSE QC Ultra. Coming in at 510e (with a discount) and 620e full price (tax/shipping included) which is really really bad. The Sennheiser momentum 4 on the other hand cost 270e (with a discount) or 370e (full price) with tax/shipping included.
So with that price comparison I can almost buy 2 momentums for the price of one xm5 and I doubt its double the quality....

I can’t, but interested to know since I want to use these for work and don’t want my dogs or any other sounds and interrupting my calls but just want the best Mike sound for my calls

@@John-yu5fi hi, i think it's still quite ok in your condition. but if you want the best performance in mic i suggest you to use headset with dedicated microphone not wireless headset.
I just ordered a pair of M4's for $299 in Canada, the XM5's are currently $398 here. If the Sony "sounded $100 better" I would gladly pay the extra money, but I'm getting the impression they don't.
For me the diference in audio is huge, its not difficult to choose, the second audio in the Sony was discusting after having heard the Sennheiser

I wasn't ready to hear the Sony clearer with vocals. Sadly, the sample is too small to judge, however.
The M4's sounded miles better in that sound comparison...wow! So much more clarity, The XM5 just sounded muddy.

Sennheiser HD-599 Is better than the Sennheiser Momentum 4 for less money if one doesn't mind the Cord and doesn't care about noise cancellation. The HD-599 Has sub bass and more natural sound for movies and they're more comfortable than the Momentum. However if one listens to SiruXM Radio the Momentum is better for upper bass. The HD-599 are more purists sounding. So for Home use the HD-599 is better for portable the Momentum is better
note to myself : no mention of dongle or aptx or other technical stuff.

@@BBYbaka As someone who owned the XM4 , the QC 45 and the QC : ANC on the Sennheiser momentum 4 is very good and enough to cut down A TON of noise. Do I wish it could be Bose level? yes! However, the sound quality will make you forget the slightly lower ANC. at First coming from Bose I was not impressed , but once I played the music , the magic happened.

For all peoppe need to know xm5s are to basy, way to tinny, anc significantly decrease from what the xm4s were and the xm4s sound quality 75% better honestly i will be getting momentum delivered sooner
sennheiser won for me cuz i got them for 200 compared to xm5 being 300 and i doubt there’s a 100 dollar difference between the two

Amazing review everything explained with clarity i went with the XM5'S in the blue color and love the desing of it i love the sound quality of the sony and how comfortable the earcups feel like pollows gently clamping your head ive used my XM5'S in my home with my parrots and they did a very good job to minimize the chirps they did so far i have enjoyed them and they ticked all my boxes i prefer touch controls over physical buttons
