Horseshoe crabs molt and shed their shells, legs and all. That's are just their old shells washed up on the beach. They are back in the oceans growing new shells.
Ausia, Floridian here but I'm in your stomping grounds out in AZ at the moment. If you want to see manatees in the wild travel over to the gulf coast to Tampa. The Florida Power and Light Park in Tampa has an wonderful manatee viewing area with 100's of manatees hanging out in the warm waters. You will also see dolphins and sometimes even sharks. Then if you want to really see alligators go across the bridge to Clearwater, Hwy. 60, and stop at Alligator Lake where there are massive alligators everywhere. The Gulf Coast is prettier than the east coast too. Go to my hometown, Dunedin, FL and walk the beaches at Honeymoon Island. It's gorgeous. You can also go north up the Gulf Coast to some amazingly beautiful springs. Your videos make me miss my home state but I'm enjoying AZ to. Be safe in your travels.
A day in the life of Ausia and Jeff. Rocket launch, electrical work, raccoons, petting stingrays, horseshoe crabs, wild birds, dolphins and a wonderful meal with friends. I’ve got to get myself a new travel agent!! Great video - lots of fun.
Thanks Ausia, made me look up horseshoe crabs. The empty shells were most likely shed as outgrown & others die by getting overturned by waves & unable to right themselves. Only handle them from both sides of the shell to help them back in the water. They have eyes on the front of shell & tail! Wow!
When Dad and I fished offshore with a 400 yard seine net back in the 1980s, sometimes we'd get them fouling the net. Their horns and tail would get caught, and their legs would cut the netting. A real mess. 😮
Manatees are medium gray. They stay down for about 5 minutes and surface with a little blow. Sometimes it's easy to see the fan tail make a ripple while they are down. They prefer a shore with trees overhanging so they can eat the foliage.
I love how the little pup talks for himself. For the life of me I couldn’t think of his name. He is a little cutie too. He has a lot to say once in a while.
I wonder if someone could make that horseshoe crab tail into a hat pin? Your friends, especially Jeff, are so handy. I also enjoy people who are constantly curious and life long learners. Thank you for sharing.
Wow ! Great perspective of the launch 🚀 I am watching most of them on NASA and TH-cam so it was great to see it, as if, in person. They are so interesting. I had the opportunity to see a live launch back in the early 70s while traveling through Florida from the freeway 🙃 Became a lifelong fan after that. Thanks for filming that! 🤗♌️
Glad y'all were able to see a night and day launch. They aren't as big as they used to be in the late 60-70s. The ground used to shake, and it was loud. Different technology. Ppl used to cheer so loud, and honk, it would make the hair on your arms stand up. Like to see the wildlife, a lot there. Happy the weather is nicer. Y'all enjoy. 🙂👍
Thanks for sharing the launch with us! Can’t believe how many horseshoe crabs there were. Now you have me curious about weather they die after mating…have to look it up!
Just read disturbingly that horseshoe crabs are sometimes bled for their blue blood to be used for medical purposes and can cause die offs. Otherwise a cold spell followed by an unusual warm up can cause an orgy- like mating frenzy, which can also cause mass deaths. Ausia you lead me off to look up some interesting things! Love the way Kellogg ‘talks’ and how Moomoo and Kellogg get on. Great video again all of you, so interesting. So much wild life by the roadside! Thanks. Will check out your gardening channel soon AUSIA. TAKE CARE. Jo in France 🇫🇷
I saw a launch years ago and also witnessed a night launch from central Florida. That was fascinating…to see a golden glow begin to appear on the horizon and then a brilliant dot come up. Pictures not easy to get, but seeing it was awesome!
Ausia, you are at Merritt Island if want to see some big alligators 🐊 go drive to Bio Lab road oh my goodness there are some really big ones, yes ! It’s down from the Canal😊 . You’re in my neck of the woods. Take loop to see the birds it’s worth seeing the Rosie spoonbills. It’s too cold for the manatees usually they’re all over the canal area
when I lived in Florida and the shuttle would come in at like 4 o'clock in the morning or something like that that boom would knock my ass right out of bed I'm not kidding you the first time I didn't know what the heck it was I thought it was an explosion. But then I got used to it
There are a few springs that the Manatees collect in during the cold weather. Blue Springs was one but there's another that is better but i cant think of its name. I miss the coast.
Years ago i was able to do the NASA tour. Well worth the time and money. Not sure the cost now. Crabs molt like snakes. They shed off of everything part. That’s how they grow. Pretty cool to watch.
Once I went out in a Fishing boat to harvest Horseshoe crabs for fertilizer, that was in the late seventies. Now their protected for the birds, Cape May New Jersey...
Thank You so much. before I got old I went to Cape Canaveral in 75. I live in Eastern WA State. And the horseshoe crabs. And the alarm. Lovely Thank You.
I used to tske amtrak from ny to Orlando n live in rental car most nights in cocoa beach sleep right at ron Jon's or rest stop, fun times before Florida was too crowded
Those stingrays rays want out !!! That's not a good idea. They can hurt their skin hitting the rocks to get out. Makes me sad 😢.....i am glad they released them
love the video, lots of info , i you can share , where are you boondoking , i been wanting to take mi rig to the coast to get my feet wet on dry camping , thanks
How long you guys going to be in Florida.......we are coming to St.Augustine on the 10th, then Titusville on the 11th, then a cruise and on the way back we will be in Daytona on the 17th and Jacksonville on the 18th.
I like to think we will. First it will be a little more dismal, lonely, and difficult for humanity to adapt to than anything like Star Trek, but we’ll get there eventually …Just not in any of our lifetimes. …Then again, look how fast we went from no space travel at all to so frequently that we can barely keep track of current missions anymore. And how many countries are now taking part in their own missions. That’s all been within a single lifetime! 🙂
Horseshoe Crabs are also used for something… I just can’t remember what, but it’s medically important anyway. 😅 It’s probably already been mentioned somewhere.
2:30 mark: I find it very strange how those "rockets" are going so slowly when compared to a real rocket taking off (like the "Go-fast" rocket). The difference in speed is astonishing! 2:44 mark: That's so slow! It's almost like it's a helium balloon being released with a little outside assistance....2:53 mark: Yes, it's "banking to the left" because that's where all the "rockets" go. They always fly in an arc and end up in the ocean where nobody is allowed to explore. Go figure. Lol. 3:13 mark: That's suppose to be a "rocket"? ROFLMAO!!! 🤣🤣 4:04 mark: I love how our attention is shifted to the part that immediately falls back to the ground. Where's the other part that went off to the left? Lol. 18:39 mark: LOL, Kellogg! 😁 24:53 mark: Dolphins, manatees, and alligators all in the same spot? How cool is that? It would be so awesome to see all of that in person! 🤗 28:16 mark: Oh, yum! My favorite food is tacos, and those look great! 🌮👍

Apparently they lay eggs yearly, 20 to 60 thousand, a couple thousand at a time. They can live about 20 years.
Thanks Gary!
@@gary-rr7jp thanks! I also read they are considered living fossils and have been on earth for 445 million years! Wow! Before the dinosaurs.
Thanks for sharing

Horse shoe crabs commonly get overturned by high wave action during spawning and may not be able to right themselves. Often leads to death.
Thanks for sharing 👍
Jeff is a mystery. Nice simpatico
If your near Blue Springs State park in Orange City Fl you will see Manatees.....great rocket shot.
Awesome 😄👍
That was really neat 👩🚀👩🚀🚀

If you're still in Cape canarel, you are about 45 minutes North of where I live.

Ya, but interested where it was at so we can visit. Also where you watched the launch from?
🐼
☺️🙏❤️
something i seen one time on opening them plastic containers. a can opener !!
Where is this refuge you camped at? Headed to Florida next week. It looks really cool!
We had left to find a different spot and heard from someone there that they kicked everyone out at 3 am
🙋♀️🌻

Probably won't leave Florida until the beginning of next month, but I'm not sure the area we'll be in 🤔
Maybe a Government Surplus Auction Truck for base camp or police SUV.
😁👍
From what I recall manatees are a grayish color. 🦀
😊👍
There is no gator off season. What you don't know can eat you in Florida.lmao

when you going to do any fishing?
Don't have any gear or license for fishing
Horseshoe crabs are harvested for their blue blood, which is used in biomedical
Oh interesting 🤔

I don't know why but I was always under the impression that they only launched at night. Guess I was wrong.
Oh no .......all times of the day and night. Depends on the "window" to fly. I have lived in Florida since 1981. Launches never get old
😊👍
Your stressing them rays .....look how there trying to get out
They can tell the tide is going out and they need to go .
They did release them, and the tide doesn't really shift there
Sad video really, space shuttle memories. Waste of of money also

Yes, I am transgender, 😊👍 just a mixture, a little of both, but not something I bring up a lot.
@rvpandamonium I thought you were 100% female, wow, you must have went thru hormone treatments.
