    Watching your video, looks like you don't have the handle locked in to release the brake. I too just bought one and had to lock in the handle (to the two pins at top) before the unit would move. I also tried moving the dolly around before attaching to trailer to make sure it would work, that is how I found out that the handle needs to be firmly secured to pins in order to release brake - worked fine once I did that.

    I'm considering just finding a cheap used snowblower on marketplace- then modifying it for the job. I keep my boat in a storage unit, and no suprise there's no room to back it in with my pickup.

    Since this video was uploaded 4 years ago, I would like to believe that TrailerValet made some changes. I just bought mine two weeks ago and it was incredible. it is a bit difficult to turn on an incline, though it is possible. This dolly is the only reason my trailer is on my new property thanks to a dip between my driveway and the road for drainage reasons. It's a bit difficult to maneuver on grass, but I do plan to mark the path for the trailer with bricks as a guide as well as providing a smooth surface with traction for the dolly tires.

    I maneuver my 23 foot 7000 pound trailer in and out of my covered storage with it all the time. It is paved, but it isn't that smooth and there is a slight incline at the door. I got it mostly to reposition the trailer inside the storage unit. It's a tight space and to walk around the trailer inside it has to be in the right spot. Not so easy to hit with the truck. This thing is worth the money, but you get what you pay for too. If you want to drag your trailer around a yard and up and down inclines get a motorized trailer dolly and get ready to spend a few thousand dollars for it.

    The brace would never work at such a angle. The brace mounts need to be as near as possible level with each other so there can be no slop. The load as fitted in your install just twists the bracket.

    what is the tongue weight of your trailer and gross weight of your trailer?

    Easy fix, lay some pavers from where the valet sits to the hard concrete path. It needs grip.

    I am most curious about the bracket that you attached from the tongue jack to the trailer valet, was that purchased somewhere or did you make it?

    I watched another video that shows there’s a high and low range drill shaft on the valet. Were you on the high range shaft?

  • @woodmeistera1
    @woodmeistera1 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Seems the problem is you’re using an electric drill with only one gear speed and the trigger is the only way to slow the rpm of the chuck. Did you try a cordless drill with a high and low range gear? The gear reduction works like the transmission in your truck giving lots of torque and low speed.

    If they made that worm gear driven it would be unstoppable until you stopped cranking. Then it woul be immovable lol

    Thank you very much for the review. I am not great at backing up trailers and I do craft shows. I have been considering one of these to aid in me getting the trailer maneuvered into tighter spaces with ease. The spaces would not all be perfectly paved and therefore after watching your video I can foresee me being pretty pissed off that a small pebble or a slight incline would prevent this from being a useful investment for me! So again THANK YOU for the review!!!

    Thank you for making this video, I was about to pull the trigger thinking that I could pull a trailer with this dolly on a 10 degree incline by myself.

    Everyone saying “user error” or “your the issue” must of missed the key message in this video. When he said “they charged me for a bent part” I instantly said nope won’t be buying it. What on this unit could bend and why would I want something knowing it has a potential weak point? Even if he was on an incline on dirt as others mention why did the unit bend? I’ll be spending more money and going with something else for my trailers.
    Thank you. I appreciate the honest feedback even tho you’ve upset the fanboys.

      Aaaahhh you missed the key message that it got bent during shipping when he sent it back. (Those shipping employees throw stuff around, especially if they are behind schedule.)
      Mine works just fine, gravel, pavement, incline, no problem. And it is very well made.
      Im a "fan boy" because it works. This guy obviously didn't know what he was doing.

      by trying to force this to work in loose dirt (and it was loose just cause he said is wasnt does not make it true) he broke it. there are gears and linkage you can not see. he definitely broke it by trying to strong arm it to work in conditions it was not made to work in.

      Did you try to get it up in the air to see if the brake was unlocked?

    • @BlissImagesAdelaide
      @BlissImagesAdelaide 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      He initially used the drill on the high gear input shaft (something the instructions say never to do), and he didnt't have the handle fully up, so the brake was on for most of the attempts. Even when the brake was off, trying to launch it in high gear, is the opposite of a nice smooth takeoff required on loose surfaces. It's like dumping the clutch in a car from 5th gear with the handbrake on, and being surpised things broker. From reviews on their own website, bushes/bearings appear prone to very early failure, with or without proper manintenance, but this video looked all to be user error.
