Love BC Ferries always go crazy to eat clam chower and poutine. Play games at the arcade so rare nowadays, explore outdoor decks, and walk my dog to look at the lower decks out towards the water.
Agreed, our young folks are very keen, professional and play a key part in making our fleet the safest in the world! We carry more then 8 million people and a million vehicles a year and our safety record is second to none. The North sinking was a tragic event but the prompt action of the crew prevented it from becoming a major disaster having saved all but two souls. The crew should be praised for their professionalism.
I've been on the Spirit of British Columbia many times. Of the new ships they mentioned I've been on Coastal Renaissance, Coastal Inspiration and Northern Expedition. Haven't been on Island Sky yet. Sorry, Powell River...
As a bus driver who crossed on the ferry every day, I can tell you I'm happy to be away from that situation today. Waiting for over priced boats, cancellations of ferries, and not getting onto some trips due to no space, is something I won't miss. Being on the island was like being in a prison to me, I'm so glad I moved to Ontario, where even the wages are better.
The flight from Calgary to Victoria takes less time than the sailing from Tsawassen to Swartz Bay. Love the ferries but you can't beat a plane for speed.
Only one ferry sank and that’s the Queen Of The North. However, some ships DID pull away prematurely while cars were still boarding, which killed people, and then the Queen Of Oak Bay accidentally went into a busy marina where it ploughed through a bunch of boats, but no one was hurt during that...
Sure. Except that the German bid was 35% less than any Canadian yard that bid. And the two Spirit class were way over budget, and late. The Germans got a bonus for on time and on budget completion. And remember the wonderful Fast Cats? One of the three didn't carry a single passenger, and the three of them cost half a billion, and were sold for 20 million. So much for Canadian ship building. And I'm Canadian.
The fast cats had the wrong engines installed. Former Premier Gordon Campbell knew that but felt he could hammer the former government's mistake over and over by selling the fast cats off at a huge loss.
well for the average family of 4 it cost 115 dollars and for people like me living on vancouver island traveling to the mainland it gets expensive and their really is no slow season the winter has thousands of hockey players traveling for tournements alost every week
Five may be required: Campbell River → Quadra Island → Read Island → Cortes Island → Powell River → Sechelt, with a new highway on the west shore of Howe Sound linking Gibsons to Squamish.
Did Ottawa hear that? One of longest coastline in the world!! And what does the Canadian government do? They reduce the coastguard's regional offices from five to three. Come fall 2012 the Coastguard in; St. John’s, Newfoundland - Quebec City, Quebec - Sarnia, Ontario - Dartmouth, Nova Scotia - and Vancouver, British Columbia, will cease to exist.
A fantastic service with great views, and plenty of good memories.
Nanaimo is a first nations term, in English it translates to “One sailing wait”.
LOL!!! 🤣🤣🤣

@@RandomizerTV it is, haven't been since before the pandemic.
I used to drive transport trucks on and off the island. Many hours, trips with the various routes across the inside passage. Good memories indeed.

@TheCrazySoundStudio Heck, I haven't been on one for over 1½ years.
Last time I've been on one was 2018.
Build a bridge to Vancouver Island, maybe even two!

Oof it's weird seeing the Queen of Oak Bay
After that stupid ferry ploughed through all those boats...yeah!
