The water temperature in Miami right now is 82° which is very warm and would have been warmer when you were just there weeks ago. Tropical water is not cold. This time of year the ocean temperature off the coast of England is around 40 to 50 degrees, now that's cold.

The Alligators don't hang out in Miami Beach, The Standard is in walking distance maybe less than 100 yds from where my best friend lives. Her boat is docked at her building in the ocean, no lake by the Standard. Every ocean has sharks, no reason to stay out of the water. Alligators are in every lake, river and canal in FL . Rare to see a gator in the ocean, but one spotted further south.
