Huge huge congrats on 100K, it is very well-deserved!! Always really enjoy the science segments, great to hear more about why things are working a certain way! I would be curious to get your take on if/why long pole stem switches can help with the hollowness/thinness of boards. I actually built my thera plateless with only the bottom foam and some Namazu switches (SP Star manufacturered long poles), and I don’t think it sounded as thin/resonant as your initial build. definitely agree with doing the force break on this one!!

Great video Scott! I've used UHMWPE Tape before to holee mod some stabs, but never thought to use it to seal up flex cuts. Your explanation of the science behind really helped contextualize why without the sealed flex cuts the boards sounds so "thin". Also the ping on that board before the Force break mod was crazy! Congrats on 100k man, can't think of anyone more deserving. You'll be at a million before you know it. Thanks for all you do.

  • @coyotex850

that demonstration really put into perspective how bad flex cuts "air out" the sound. personally i think the flex thing has become a meme, it started out as people wanting a soft feel to folks wanting the board to collapse on itself while they're typing.

  • @albertko1

Thanks for hearing the Anti-Flexcut gang. The UMWHPE tape was an interesting take. I'm sure there's a bit of frequency "shaping" as sound travels through the tape used.
Did you try with regular masking tape to see if it influenced the final sound? I think the Scott build sounds so much better than the straight no-frills build.

I just had this weird idea. We all know what a PE foam layer would do to sound, but what if we cutout the part where the switches lie? Basically covering flex cuts but not where the switch are inserted. I have the link65 with the sushi roll and the way to cover the flex cuts was to use the pefoam, but now I was wondering if cutting out the switches part would affect sound differently.

  • @tamegaming1768

I had this exact same issue with my Tiger80 ALU. Amazing looking and feeling board stock, but the alphas were lacking like in the video, thin and weak. Some thin strips of duct tape on the flex cuts completely changed the board. Alphas are loud and proud now. Might want to try the UHMWPE tape though
