I am impressed by the German Stummer body, it's amazing how that little sweep blade crunches up the material compared to a larger North American version. Thanks for sharing. I wondered about that. Having the compaction stop mid-cycle I considered an important safety feature. I assume continuous operation only makes sense at large stops like this, and probably is a feature of this truck. I would think it would be more efficient to have the compactor always in motion for a fast working crew than to have to start it up every time the hopper gets full.
@@ian74747 The back of the truck is run off of the PTO. When the truck is loaded, it needs all of the power to climb hills. The truck I work on does 13-14 tons of garbage. There are also times when you don't need it running all of the time. Hoses, all of the moving parts are under stress and pressure while working. We had a loose pin on the blade. I had to hammer it in every once in a while during the day to keep working.

I wish our trucks here in America would keep running. It would speed up the process. I have to keep hitting the handles.

It's my job five days a week, all year long. I was wrong. There are plenty of times I don't want it running all of the time.
