I live in Southern BC, Canada, and I am having the same weird warm weather. I live on the side of a mountain, facing North and almost get no sun as I have big trees like you. I look at all your sun loving plants with envy! I am however, trying seedlings of Hosta and Columbine. Should be fun. Thank you for all your great advice and enthusiasm for gardening.
I love that you have the same relationship with dishes as me!!! I’m growing beautiful things!! Lol!! Great job you guys. Better play a game for Brian.🤣🤣
Shelley, my kitchen is where I do the majority of my potting up of plant seedlings, too! If I ever have the opportunity to build a potting shed or greenhouse, I would love to have a tall removable spray head on the faucet and a large farmhouse sink. Last year, I germinated Japanese Iris seeds using the winter sowing method, which I planted into large planters that are overwintering outside. I hope they survive our crazy winter. Blessings to you and your family. ~Margie🌱☃
When do you collect the seed pods off of the mother plant I was looking yesterday and I actually have a lot of seeds I have never done this before and I am new to your channel
I'm just curious, how old are the seedlings you're potting up. I have 5 week old seedlings that don't seem like they're growing as quickly as yours unless yours are younger. I did pot mine in regular potting soil from the beginning not knowing I should have started in seed starting mix, and today, I did feed them a fish fertilizer for the first time. Patience is not my strong suit, so I wonder how I'll know they're doing ok and growing stronger. They don't seem to be getting bigger or putting on new leaves. At how many weeks do they start looking like "real" plants? Thank you so much for this series. It's been incredibly helpful!
Haha. I just posted about this as well. I only had one sprout but it’s way smaller than hers. I probably will hit it with a little fertilizer and see if that bumps it up.
So Some of my seeds were started 12/18/22... they were put in the paper towel and water/h.p. solution that day. Once they sprouted (some at 4 days in, others at 27 days!) they were put into cell packs. The largest seedlings that are growing are 3.5 weeks old at this point. I have a 'live' Facebook check-in for those growing daylily seed tonight (Jan 17) at 7PM EST. Join in, you'll have a chance to show me your seedlings and connect, ask questions and we can go from there! fb.me/e/1XeYGVoYf
Wait, are these the seedlings from the last video? I ended up only getting one out of five. ( I just started another pack I think will do better)But anyway , it’s only about 2 inches. Yours look so much bigger. Have you fertilized them at this point yet? ( in the6 packs) I wasn’t sure if I should start before they are potted up.
Yes, those are the same seedlings. I fertilize when I pot them up into the solo cups. The seed should feed them until they outgrow the cell packs (which doesn't take long- a couple of weeks to a month. Depending on the nutrient content of your potting mix... that will determine how often to feed them. If you use a compost based potting mix, they will need less fertilizing than a soil-less mix which has very little nutrient content. I am hosting a 'live' check-in tonight at 7pm EST on facebook if you're available! I've pinned the event to the top of the page... fb.me/e/1XeYGVoYf
You always make me think I could be successful with this, Shelley. Excellent video. Love watching you two.
Thank You and definitely name one after yourself 💐

Im starting Columbine this year as well for the first time... Good luck to you!
Enjoyed the video, and you two fun people. Fungus gnats are a problem I have, so I liked the information. Happy New Year.

I had a white seedling, it survived until I transplanted it. Great info shelley!
So happy to see your video pop up. Thank you! You can tell you love what you do.

Awesome! Winter sowing is such a time and space-saving method of growing, especially for those seeds that love cold-stratification!
My seeds finally sprouted!! I planted them today!! How many hours per day do you keep the grow lights on them?? I can’t wait to see mine grow!!!
Yay!!! They're off and running! As far as grow light hours: 14 hrs on, 10 hours off :-)

When you pot up the seedlings in the solo cups, when do you put them outside and, do they stay or do you bring them in and out?j
Use Vicks Vapor Rub for foot fungus, after every shower/bath rub a little bit around toes and on toenails. 😉
Now I want to start daylilies. Did you sell all of yours? I want some pink colored ones. I'll message you on your web page. :)
