Have fitted in my Leaf recently. Advice I came across was to check which side of the fuse slot supplies power. When I checked that slot it was the inside which meant I had to reverse the fuse tap and there wasn't room to do that so had to use a different one. If yours is the same as mine, a 2018 40 KWh Leaf, then power is bypassing the fuse. It was the same for the Meter (ACC) slot but there's room to insert the tap the other way there. I have made a boo boo with the air bag though. Assumed the entire thing was in the lower part of the pillar! Doh!
I hard wired a dash cam 3 years ago on a BMW 3 series tourer with the fuse box in the boot. Just ran the wire along the internal trims at the bottom of the door steps . Managed to avoid all the airbags although every car is different. Biggest difficulty is getting trims off without breaking or damaging anything.
