Originally broadcast as part of the 'Cinema 100' season in the mid-90s, this adaptation of the classic Patricia Highsmith thriller (famously adapted for the screen by Hitchcock) has an amazing cast of actors who were all well-known in the mid-90s, even if they were perhaps not yet the highly visible star names that they are now. Anton Lesser, Michael Sheen, Saskia Reeves AND Bill Nighy, all in one drama? What more could anybody ask for...
MYSTERIOUS MAGPIE is a channel devoted to ghost and horror stories on British radio, and to dark tales of every kind. I have another channel, MYSTICAL MAGPIE, which is all about stories of fantasy, mythology, and adventure: / @mysticalmagpie-wo5fn

Brilliant acting by our wonderful British actors! Thanks for posting this Mr Magpie 😊
Funny thing, I listened to it when it was broadcast - it was only when I returned to it recently that I noticed how amazing the cast was...
Thanks a lot you don’t know how grateful I am to you for uploading these dramas thanks
Just like the word "menacing" must have been created for Pinter, I think "chilling" belongs to Highsmith. This one blew me away--much more effective than the movie!
I don't know that you'll find it as effective, but I believe I've also uploaded a serialisation of Highsmith's The Cry of the Owl that may interest you if you've not heard it already...
@@mysteriousmagpie I've seen the movie--not very good. I will try the radio drama. Thx for the tip.
Hi.
I just wanted to let you know that there is a drama starting in the seventh dimension slot tomorrow on BBC Radio 4 extra which I thought would fit the theme of the channel.
The drama is called the children of witch wood.
I’m not sure how many parts it is in, but I just thought that I would let you know in case you wanted to add it to the channel.
Thanks for the tip - but in fact I have that series already, it's just a matter of time in terms of what gets uploaded. I've recently been dredging my archive for one-off plays as I figure they're generally less promoted, so Witchwood will have to wait for the moment...
@@mysteriousmagpie no problem. I came across a play recently which was part of Saturday night theatre. It was called the last witch and I think it was about the Salem witch trials.
Yeh,been listening to that.Cracking story it is.
None of those actors are in this. Still enjoyable
All of those actors literally ARE in this, that's why they're named in the end credits. However, you enjoyed it and that's the important thing.
They're actors, they put on voices.
