I have not been to saint Lawrence market in probably 15 years at least. That veal sandwich looked delicious, reminds me of the veal sandwiches at Commisso Brothers bakery back in the day :)
I just love hitting The Market, I work not that far. The veal sandwich use to he the absolute best but they've seem to have gotten lazy and started producing more ahead and keeping them in the sauce till service. I prefer to get their veal and eggplant. The bakery in the basement is just fantastic. The Chinese hot food counter has an older couple helping out in the back, they use to run Kom Jug Yuen in Chinatown that use to produce the best BBQ pork in the city and arguably in North America. The shop just across from the bulk food section next to the coffee beam shop is the only place in town where I can consistantly find vanilla beans...though at a price. I usually hit up Whitehouse butchers for meats when I get special requests at work. But the kitchen gadget place in the center of the market is my favorite hang out.
Veal & Eggplant is my fave. Blows California Sandwiches out of the water. The bakery around the corner has some really good almond croissants too -- actually all their baked goods are fab.
I gotta admit, I'm liking California more these days. Its so fresh that its still crispy when I dig in a few minutes later. Lately a lot of places fry up their veal ahead and keep them in the sauce till service making them soggy. But what I will give St Lawrence Market over Cali is the bun; California's bun starts to disintegrate by the time you hit your second half, it doesn't hold well against their sauce which they don't add an excessive amount of. St Lawrence Market's bun keeps quite well, the structure holds up against the sauce and toppings throughout your eating process.
@@HeadlessChickenTO Also not a fan of the nickle'n'diming that California (and admittedly, every other veal sammi place) does on toppings .. mushrooms, hot peppers, everything is a dollar. I like that Mustachio keeps it all included. Also, I've had eggplants added to my veal at California, and it wasn't breaded -- just grilled, and somewhat mediocre.

They used to run Kom Jug Yuen?!?!?!?!?!?! TIL!
The market closes at 6pm everyday!? Dame, I’m from Hamilton and I would have to pretty much book a day off work to try this place out!
Weekend Jerry!
And it's closed Sunday and Monday. So many tourists on Mondays standing outside, so angry! :(
haha that bite, with the veal comin out the bottom
The Veal used to be my most fave!! I know it is in the floor below but what is the name? I think coming sunday 😊
Dont blame you. Frm the bun to the sauce to the meat.. it is perfection!
Can't eat veal. I know I'm a hypocrite but, just can't knowing it's a baby cow
@@MattsMegabites thx for being easy on my hypocrisy lol
Probably the most expensive and over rated market. It seems like everything will be a bargain, but definitely not the case.
